Ring camera and doorbell fitter

Post by barba » Thu Mar 07, 2024 7:40 pm

My in-laws had their garage broken into recently so my wife bought them a camera and doorbell.

It's not something their (old school) electrician can do so I was wondering if anyone could recommend someone?

They are in Burnley.

Not convinced they’re a deterrent these doorbell cameras, folk can now see the bloke who’s burgling him with his hood up and face covered, even when face is clear the police won’t use it as evidence either.
Just seen a waste of time

They do give you a notification if someone is near your door. So you can react yourself to scare them off, but like you say, from an evidence perspective, they are not great.

Could you get it changed to a wireless one with a battery you charge once every couple of months or so? Doesn't need an electrician to fit then.

Do they already have a standard door bell and internal ring?

If so, it’s a much easier job. Nest have registered installers (assume Ring do to) but you’re probably paying through the nose for them.

Might it be worth putting the money into a new garage door that’s alarmed.

I had a dodgy looking doorbell call last year while I was away working. Said to them “can you wait 5 minutes, my mates and I are just finishing a hand of poker, be right down….”. Needless to say, they sodded off

Anyway, Ring doorbells….

I’m led to believe that the wired version (which I have) is better, but is also the version to be pro fitted. So I’d say it depends which version it is.

I don’t disagree that £50 isn’t “good value” it’s more the 42% increase in price that’s the issue

I have the doorbell and 2 cameras with Ring Protect Plus.
The cost for all 3 is £80 per year.

I thought this so for got them a garage door "defender" (concreted T bar) and my wife got them the Ring stuff.

She doesn't want them "messing around" with batteries (they are 80+), their electrician can't do it so somehow I've been tasked with finding someone who can :|

Does anyone know aomeone who might be able to do it?

if its battery powered ones, it shouldnt need a professional installation. im sure a handyman could do it.

let me know which ones you have.

i've fitted multiple ring devices before

Much better off getting it alarmed and plenty of security lights.

They are both wired as my wife didn't want them messing with batteries.

I appreciate and mostly agree, as mentioned there are other better alternatives to Ring, but it was chosen and bought a while back by my wife.

Unless I'm mistaken, Amazon will only fit a hardwired Ring doorbell if you already have a wired doorbell - sounds like they simply use the existing wiring?

I congratulate marketers for having people pay an annual subscription for a door bell! I'm still in my 30s, and can see it might have uses, but not for me.

Brought a wireless doorbell, 2 plugs that make sound around the house (some sounds are awful!!) for about £15. No subscription. Really wanted an old style bell but too much insulation for it to be effective, and she veto'd.

Anti vandal paint is pretty cheap and a nightmare to get of.

Although would cost more to replace anything stolen, cost of broken door/ window would be more than anyone would get.

You’re not paying a subscription the doorbell. You’re paying for the storage of the captured video

The doorbell still ring without the subscription

It's not a doorbell you paying for, it's the online storage and retrieval of all your recordings. I can look back for weeks what's gone on. I pay £8 a month for 2 external cameras and my doorbell. I find it good value.

If anyone thinks having an alarm 🚨 is better than a ring door bell they are hugely mistaken .. Alarms are so primitive and when go off everyone just thinks it’s faulty .. the ring door bell captures events on all levels .. recordings of extremely good pictures with audio and helps with deliveries and anyone attending your property .. an alarm won’t help you with your Amazon delivery or capture anyone doing a survey on your property casing it out .. we have 3 on our property and find them excellent .. if your not keen on visitors at all like the in-laws ring door bell are great fro pretending your out too telling them your not currently home when really your in bed watching tv
