Sue Bolton - RIP

Post by DumfriesClaret » Fri Mar 15, 2024 4:56 pm

Good afternoon all,

I'm very sorry to have to report that Sue Bolton, formerly a season ticket holder in both the Bob Lord and latterly the James Hargreaves and who worked at HSBC in Burnley for many years passed away after a short illness on Tuesday 5th March 2024 in the Royal Infirmary in Dumfries.

Sue was an active member of Colne Clarets and followed Burnley from the mid-1980's from her first game vs Newport, to the infamous final day of 9th May 1987, to the heights of the Premier League, including three trips to Wembley and I'm sure many will know her. Sue and her husband Allen followed Burnley home and away for many years.

The funeral and service for the thanksgiving of Sue's life is next Friday, 22nd March 2024 at 15.00 at Roucan Loch Crematorium in Dumfries. All are welcome.

My thoughts are with her husband Allen and the rest of the extended family and friends.

Another one that has shocked me. I knew Sue well through Alan Beecroft and it was Sue in her professional capacity who helped set up this website's bank accounts for the fundraising.

So, so sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with Allen and her friends and family. Yet another big Burnley fan has left us. RIP Sue.

That's three Clarets gone in a week.

Our words are of meagre solace but at least they prove we care.

RIP Sue.

RIP Sue and condolences to Allen.

They took me under their wing when I started to go to away games with Colne Clarets, helping me out with lifts to and from the pick up point. She was a lovely person and I have incredibly fond memories of her.

I remember Sue from various business networking events, in the mid 2000s.
Very sad.

Similar memories of her and I've learned since this was posted that donations at Sue's funeral will be for MND in memory of Alan Beecroft. That says so much about her, that her and Allen have remembered Beeky and want to do this. I've spoken to Beeky's wife and his son and they are both overwhelmed at this wonderful gesture.

I've been thinking a lot about her and Allen today and felt I needed to add more.

I distinctly remember the look of abject horror she gave me when I folded up a match programme into my pocket. Putting a crease into it was not the thing to do and I was told in no uncertain terms about how heinous a crime I had committed.

The donations to MND are a beautiful gesture and I will certainly make a donation. It has been many years since I saw Sue or Allen but what they taught me about supporting our team stands as well today as it did then (programme folding aside).
