Re: Arijanet Muric
Some are doing their best to downplay the result and performances today, which is odd given the season we are having.
The lift including Muric in the team gave most of the fans was evident today and he delivered. Great performance and I hope he starts for the rest of the season.
Should have happened a while ago, if anything to just give JT a break from the firing line. I still believe JT will develop into a great GK. UTC.

Have you ever played football? Normally you look before you pass especially if it is directly towards your own goal line.TheCatsWhiskers wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 5:59 pmDid he tell O’Shea he was making an angle, or just wander out of his goal to make one without letting him know?
100% on Dara 0% on Muric. Enjoy your weird angle though.

Absolutely this, although I do sort of understand why O'Shea did it. He has had JT behind him all season who never moves from the centre of his goal.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:27 pmHave you ever played football? Glad Muric got recalled but feel for Trafford as he was thrown in at the deep end and wasn't ready in the future who knows but at the moment not up to Premier league standard and it should have been done a lot earlier..

That was what the host said yeah, it was more the more in-depth 'analysis' that was making it out like it was his first ever game for us. Surely could've mentioned that he was our keeper for all last season?

The reaction at 2pm in the pub when the teams were announced….. Vincent finally see’s sense. 5 months late but let’s not split hairs.
Shame today was his first game. Ridiculous really. 12 men when he’s playing.

Re: Arijanet Muric
Not sure the relevance of pointing out that Muric is 2 inches shorter than Trafford.
Anyway, Trafford is a decent but raw keeper, abused unfairly on here just because people want Muric, but Muric has stardust about him. Telling him (effectively) in the summer that he isn’t good enough for the EPL is probably the defining mistake of the season. At City they must think Trafford will be top, he may be, that’s why we bought him, but Muric should have had the shirt to lose and / or been in by Christmas.
Of course, if Muric has a few stinkers, the reverse applies. But it should be his shirt now. For a few games at least.

Then be amazed. I can't look at today's performance and think how much better it was than, say Luton at home. What it boiled down to in the end was that Luton fouled our goalkeeper in the last minute for the equaliser and got away with it; Brentford fouled our goalkeeper in the last minute for the equaliser and didn't get away with it.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 8:58 pmI’m amazed how people can’t see how much better the team is with Muric in goal … Forget super saves .. the confidence it brings the defence to know he is there and his distribution is miles better .. Muric looks like a premier league keeper and Trafford looks like a young keeper learning his trade
I think playing Muric was the right choice and will keep him there for a few games at least. But let's not pretend that 9 more performances like today will keep us in the league. We will not face many teams as poor as Brentford were today.

Thank goodness Muric was back today. Trafford needs to watch and learn. The best thing today was the no nonsense messing about on the ball and the little side way passes that Trafford does. Speed your game up and command your box and learn to hit a 30 yard pass early not wait until the opportunity has gone. Up the clarets

I hand on heart think he's the best player in the squad with the highest ceiling.
I was fine signing Trafford but Muric should’ve kept his place while we developed him. This way around we’d have made a fortune on Muric.

I agree and it’s frankly quite heartbreaking that had he made this change sooner we might’ve stayed up. It was always Muric’s shirt to lose.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 5:38 pmKompany's biggest mistake this season. Everything we've needed all season, top drawer today
Let’s also not get carried away though. Muric was excellent but we played the whole game with 10 men so I think he’d have been tested a lot more had it remained 11 v 11.

There is no way Muric would have come off his line in such a timid way like Trafford did in the dying minutes against Luton … I get it .. Trafford was fouled when you look at it but he gave the referee a decision to make .. Muric would have took the ball and the Luton player clean out if need be .. Trafford looked so weak coming for that ball and keepers aren’t protected as much as they used to be …dsr wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:48 pmThen be amazed. Trafford wouldn't have been as far out as muric was for the save just before half time, his positioning made the save.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 9:39 pmHe played well and stood up well but most saves were as I would expect and I think Trafford makes those too.
He does however move it more quickly and the passing is crisper and accurate so it's harder for teams to press us effectively and because he can drill those great long diagonals accurately to players teams can't afford to leave him with a lot of time on the ball.
Should have been playng earlier no doubt (in fact after Spurs in the Cup it should have been pretty obvious.

He was very very good last season.

Re: Arijanet Muric
Hard to accept that Trafford is taller TBH.
Dyche took 19 games before dropping Hart and turn our season round with Tom Heaton recalled. This was game 29 of 38 and simply too little too late. Muric was class compared to Trafford but we were playing 10 men. How will Muric fare when his spooked defence is playing against Chelsea Spurs Man U Brighton and Newcastle-games where we need points? Will he still be able to ping those passes half the length of the pitch and more, at the speed he did today. I still think Muric should have been our number one from the start and was surprised we paid so much for a keeper who I rate on his performances no better than Peacock-Farrell.
Had VK done a Dyche at game 19 looking at who we played since, would the results have been different?

I’m in the camp of finding the whole thing even more frustrating now we’ve seen him have a positive impact on the season. Only VK can answer why it’s taken so long.
He’s not perfect and he’ll no doubt make mistakes over the coming weeks but his selection immediately lifted the gloom around the place and he followed it up with a match winning performance.

I was going to reply saying I didn’t think we’d be on many more points, but have just looked back on the last ten fixtures and there’s been a lot of close games in that period and I reckon you could make a strong case for 6-7 additional points which’d obviously have put us right in and amongst it. Incredibly frustrating.mdd2 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 8:17 amHard to accept that Trafford is taller TBH.

On the plus side when you do look back at the last ten fixtures we are getting much closer results. We have started looking like a premier league team which is reassuring for next year.

Vk has often said he is not changing his style of play and it looks like this also means he is reluctant to change players .. It’s u defendable dropping our talisman keeper for a young rookie with no experience . It’s given us an impossible job of survival and not done Trafford any favours who i think should have been introduced initially in cup games , Lets hope Vk is going to accept he is also learning and should not be as stubborn in the future AppAlan Young wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 8:40 amI’m in the camp of finding the whole thing even more frustrating now we’ve seen him have a positive impact on the season. Think muric actually made 2 wayward passes, both of which into midfield, one left of centre, one in the centre, other than that he was impeccable and literally put he's body on the line, as you say what a lift to 99% of the fan's.Poulton-le-Claret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:20 pmSome are doing their best to downplay the result and performances today, which is odd given the season we are having.

There are a lot more options and space to distribute to when there are only ten men.

Muric struggled at times last season on crosses for the size of him. Especially on corners. Looked good yesterday though
