What is the point of this International break ?
What is the point of this International break ?
Another disruption to to an already weird season that started with Luton failing to have there ground ready
I get the odd weekend for Euro Qualifiers etc but for mainly non competitive International games that nobody cares about ?
I know there are the Euro Qualifier play offs but does the footballing world really need to grind to a halt for them.

The point is to allow international teams to play friendlies which I'm sure are valuable in the build up to a major international tournament.
Re: What is the point of this International break ?
Got it
Like Azerbaijan v Mongolia
Lichtenstein v Faroe Islands
Egypt v New Zealand etc
Even England v Brazil will be nothing more than a money raiser

So we can forget about Burnley and shout at Southgate instead.

Personally I see them as no more than training sessions and a chance to meet up with 'the boys'.

They are valuable friendlies for the teams taking part in them. It makes little difference that you have no interest in them.

If we had a few players involved in the play-off games and we were forced to play against a team who didn't you'd probably have a different view.

Never witnessed any value in a friendly. At best they might be interesting to fans of a player they support making a debut. Second halves just become a circus with so many substitutions being made it can become farcical.

It is supposed to give the International manager and team a break from the rigours of league action.

All international breaks are complete shite
Why can't teams play fixtures with squad players with all international players released?

Better this than the old system that would have left us playing games with players on international duty and unavailable to us.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 1:19 pmAnother disruption to to an already weird season that started with Luton failing to have there ground ready

Thought league games were postponed if either side had more than 1 player on International duty or does that no longer applyClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 3:59 pmBetter this than the old system that would have left us playing games with players on international duty and unavailable to us.
Re: What is the point of this International break ?
EFL rules state that teams can request a postponement if they have 3 or more players on International duty

Re: What is the point of this International break ?
The game got by quite well without international breaks for over a hundred years. Why have them at all, and especially why for friendlies. But then football got by without being on the telly every sodding day so what do I know.

What did they do before international breaks? I can’t remember as I guess it didn’t impact us.

Re: What is the point of this International break ?
I think teams just lost their internationals for a fixture. Bearing in mind years ago there would only have been a very small number of internationals from outside the home nations playing in England.

Re: What is the point of this International break ?
That’s what I would have assumed. Obviously that isn’t practical at all in the Premier League these days, and would even unfairly impact too many teams in the Championship.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 9:02 pmI think teams just lost their internationals for a fixture. Re: What is the point of this International break ?
People complain about these breaks which i get but surely if we didnt have them it'd just mean the season ending earlier and a bigger gap without any club football.

Re: What is the point of this International break ?
Three or more but if we had the old system of international games being played at any time we could regularly have a player or two missing.
