Chelsea v Burnley - Player Ratings
Re: Chelsea v Burnley - Player Ratings
You're right that was probably an exaggeration. But there was at least 5 dreadful pieces of play that could and should have been punished. The 2 where he dived in near the end were almost comical. I don't understand how he's still defending like that, it's school boy stuff and it shouldn't be accepted.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 8:15 pmThat is just factually not true.
You are “imploring” us to watch the game again. Why don’t you watch the game again and let us know whether you still stand by all of Chelsea’s 30 plus chances came from Vitinho’s mistakes.
There seems to be a higher tolerance of mistakes for some players than there is for others.
And no I am not trying to be negative, nearly everybody else was excellent.

Muric 9- masterclass and those throws !
Assignon 5- sent off , shoddy challenges x 2
Vitinho 4- horrific , the 2 footed tackle was favellas level
Esteve 8- strong in the air , finding his feet
O Shea 7+ 1 for goal - no aerial duels
Cullen 8- kept it going , never stopped running
Berge 7 - strong and didn’t give an inch
Odobert 6- show pony not for the trenches ( but ok)
Bruun Larsson 7 fought hard
Amdouni 5- subbed after red but a luxury
Foster 5- scraps , looked unfit, but wants it .
Rodriguez 7-great control and so unlucky with header
JBG 7- lots of energy
Taylor 9- superb won 75% of his duels

You genuinely think they had 30+ chances?

You don't have to count it, but I'm giving them all 10's.
Not just because I've had 7 tins of Bitburger, but because I'm really proud of them and may shed a tear later.

Re: Chelsea v Burnley - Player Ratings
An excellent point, deserved all 3.
Muric 9 superb save on to the bar in the 1st half and top drawer distribution. Faced a lot of shots aside from the goals but nothing that he wouldn't have expected to save.
Assignon 6 second booking is just a collision, happens in football all the time, never a foul and certainly not a yellow.
Vitinho 4 effort is there as usual but he's not a left back. Bizarre he started there given Taylor was available.
O’Shea 8 captain level performance, great header for his goal
Esteve 8 best he's been
Cullen 8 looking like the player he was last season, proper good strike
Berge 8 working really well with Cullen
JBL 7
Odobert 7
Foster 6
Amdouni 4 barely in it and when he was he lost the ball far too easily
Taylor 8 made a mockery of the starting lineup
Jay 7 so unlucky not to with his header at the end, held the ball up well
JGB 6
A disgrace that we had to play half the game with 10 men. The opposite of a disgrace that we cane back twice, could have won it and stuck one up the kazoo of the PL and PGMOL.

From tv
Music 9 mom What was going through Vincent’s mind by not playing him
Assignon 6 unlucky to be sent off, just about summed up the awful ref
O’Shea 7 plus one for the goal. He has improved in the last couple of games (Muric effect?)
Esteve 8 always in the right place. Could become a very good cb
Vitinho 6 not a full back, though better on right
Cullen 8 should have been back much earlier
Berger 8 he was always in the right place and did not give the ball away
Brun Larsen 7 more involved than normal
Odobert 6 still convinced about him, he needs toughening up
Foster 6 good to see him get a good run out, he needs more game time
Amdouni 5 at the beginning of the season I thought he looked a genuine prospect, not up to the PL at the moment
Taylor 8 if he was on the bench for tactical reason, that’s a mistake
Brownhill 7 brought some energy to midfield
Jarrod 7 still got the moves and was unlucky not to score
JBG 7 never lets you down
Some of our football was similar to last season...if only we had tried this three months ago. When they were given their penalty and we got a red card, I said to a Stoke City supporting guy who was in the bar that the decision was ridiculous, he said “No it’s not mate, it’s because you’re Burnley and they’re Chelsea”.

He's not a full back, and that's the problem. He can't be faultedGoliath wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 5:19 pm
Vitinho 3 - before I get stick for this I implore people to watch the game again from a neutral standpoint. Every single chance they created (and there was a lot) came from his mistakes. Stupid throw ins, stupidly diving in, giving the ball away. He's utterly dreadful as a full back
for his energy and enthusiasm and it's not his fault that he's out of
position. Witness his tracking back last week to rob their attacker
which resulted in us attacking and scoring the winner.
I just feel he ought to be cut a bit of slack.

That tracking back came from his own mistake. I'm not sure why he should be cut any slack for not being good enough. Why he's still getting games as a full back at any point is just ridiculous when Roberts is out on loan.Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 10:51 pmHe's not a full back, and that's the problem. Completely agree with the above from Goliath. I like Vitinho as he always puts 100% in but he’s obviously not good enough is he. It’s the diving in that gets me. At least once a game he dives in when there’s absolutely no need to and it very rarely pays off for him.

Re: Chelsea v Burnley - Player Ratings
Muric 9 mom-gave us tempo, and confidence in our defenders has grown with his comeback
Vitinho 6-prefer Taylor here as he is a more solid defender
Esteve 7-growing in composure since Palace. Tink he will be our main pairing with O Shea.
O Shea 8-some excellent defending v a very quick attacking team
Assignon 6 (bit of a hot head)
Odobert 7-some very good breaks from him-much better wide
Berge 7-works well with Cullen and some good passing and keeping possession
Cullen 8-so very composed. Some great passes, dinks and crosses.Integral to our team
Larsen 6-showed pace and a willingness to come back and defend well
Foster 6-grew in game, but seems to lack fitness, sharpness and strength at the moment
Amdouini 5-did not see much of him
Brownhill 6-lots of energy and pressing, plus an assist
Jay 7-did ever so well with his laying the ball back, keeping possession and controlling play, and nearly scored with a good header
JBG-5. Did not really contribute much
Dont mind going down as much if we can put the same effort in for the remaining games. Thought the sub changes were good with going 3 in midfield and bringing Brownhill into that. Rodriguez did a very good job when he came on

Re: Chelsea v Burnley - Player Ratings
I honestly think the issue with Vitihno is he's not really a defender and never will be. If you're going to pick him, stick him on the wing and let him attack. I've seen him do some great stuff in the "final third" and he's genuinely tricky and quick, but for heavens sake, let's stop trying to convince the world he's a full back, because he isn't and it's his defending which generally draws low marks and detracts from his match scores. imo.up_the_clarets_1989 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 7:16 amCompletely agree with the above from Goliath. Re: Chelsea v Burnley - Player Ratings
I posted on the CT thread, Vitinho had a 78.9% passing accuracy, CT only had 58.9%.
Vitinho was also involved in the build up to the first goal.
Whatever argument you make re Vits, he is doing what Kompany asks him to, he can't be at fault for that.
Re: Chelsea v Burnley - Player Ratings
He could have given away 4 goals very easily. I'm not sure that's in the instructions. He's got away with a hell of a lot this season.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 6:16 pmI posted on the CT thread, Vitinho had a 78.9% passing accuracy, CT only had 58.9%.

He's also given us a lot of energy and pressing across the pitch.
Will probably play rb next game (which he's better at than at rm) but I do find your personal crusade against Vitinho very harsh. You have given him countless 3s this season which is just wrong and never given praise for the things that he has done well.
He's improving all the time and is important for our squad with his versatility.
Get him back at right midfield and he will be a great balance for the rest of the side.

Yet he keeps getting picked.
Obviously VK isn't measuring him against how many goal chances he might give away. Maybe he wants him for the chances he creates.

I agree it's harsh but I don't think it's unfair. I think he's woefully short at this level and showed it again against Chelsea. We can get away with him out wide but I think its very difficult for us to ever keep a clean sheet if he plays at full back.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 6:53 pmHe's also given us a lot of energy and pressing across the pitch.

And for the comment about him creating chances. That's confused me a bit, his end product is utterly dreadful. He clearly panics and rushes if he gets into a good position and has blown numerous dangerous positions this season with a complete lack of composure.
You can't carry players that bad defensively at Premier League level and if you do you'll end up with one of the worst defensive records in the league.

He has to improve on his final ball but he has the awareness, vision and ability to pop up in space that really good players tend to have.
Vitinho has a much higher ceiling than you're giving credit for - I personally think he's getting better and better.
Re: Chelsea v Burnley - Player Ratings
From Vitinho being fouled? It was dreadful defending from Reguilon, he'd have been letter giving Vitinho the shot, watching it on the replay I very much doubt he was scoring it.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 7:27 pmRemind me how we got that penalty against Brentford? I don't know what you are seeing, even in the last half an hour yesterday he got megged once diving in and then later on took a huge run up and dived in against Mudryk who probably couldn't believe his luck.
Every Sunday league player knows you can't do that, if he doesn't know by now he never will. He will never be good enough as a Premier league full back.
Il leave it after this post, I think it's pretty clear what my opinion is by now

See, this is the opinion of a hater. Sorry man, just is.
It was a clever bit of play with good movement and vision. He found space in behind a team in the penalty area with a good run timed to perfection; that's what good players do.
