Out of contract
Out of contract
So, with Brownhill, Taylor, Rodriguez, Gudmundson and Cork all out of contract at the end of the season and Loanees Assignon, Fofana and Bruun Larson's loans ending who if any would we keep or is it more feasible to get the wages off the books? and would anyone go in for the loanees?
Re: Out of contract
I'd keep Gudmundson for another year if its an option, Bruun Larson would be magic in the championship but doubt it. rest can go

Let them all go. Easy way to cut costs.
Don't we have 42 first team players on the books without loans.
The squad needs trimming.

Re: Out of contract
The club have the finances to keep them all short term if we wanted, just dont think theres any point
Re: Out of contract
I'd renew Brownhill's contract then sell him. The rest can leave for me, not the future and no doubt all on big wages. I like the look of JBL at times, but not sure he's consistent enough to warrant buying.
Re: Out of contract
Is there an option for a further year, in the clubs favour? If not why would Brownhill agree to that?

Re: Out of contract
I’d let them all go to massively cut costs on wages whilst the opportunity is there but at the same time, focus on retaining as much of the spine of the team as possible

Let Brownhill join his mate McNeil at Everton. Great to see him laughing and joking with him on the pitch on Saturday in crucial game for us.

Re: Out of contract
I'd give JBG a one year deal, Taylor a two year deal and activate Brownhill's option. I would hope Brownhill could stay personally as we know he is very good in the Championship. Bruun-Larsen has been more miss than hit for me in the Premier League but I think he'd be very good in the league below. I read a story that Hoffenheim want to keep Weghorst and want rid of Bruun-Larsen so maybe a permanent swap deal there suits all parties,

Re: Out of contract
Brownhill, Berge and Cullen would be mustard in the championship - and the spine behind Beyer, O'Shea or ? with either goalkeeper would be a great spine for the championship.
Re: Out of contract
I think we will activate brownhills option, maybe give JBG a year but the rest will be off I’d think, Taylor Cork & Jay all on 30-50k an week each, probs £5/6m a year between them.
Re: Out of contract
42 players plus loaners is insane. I wonder how much per minute of game time somebody like Tresor has been paid !

Re: Out of contract
I think you're underestimating the value of contiunity. Brownhill for example is the club captain and was one of the best midfielders in the Championship last season. It's vital for me that we retain a core of players who we know are good enough to get out of that division. This means going back to the likes of Muric, Cullen, Brownhill as a tried and tested foundation, supplemented with players like Berge and O'Shea who we know are good enough, and a spattering of our many unproven young-guns. I'd even keep Rodriguez around for another season if the opportunity allows.

Keep Taylor, that’s about it - although you could make a case for Brownhill and JBL

Re: Out of contract
Trigger Brownhill's extension and probably sell him if there are PL suitors. Same with JBG but hold on to him for another year.LincsWoldsClaret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 12:06 pmKeep Taylor, that’s about it - although you could make a case for Brownhill and JBL
I'd be releasing Cork and J-Rod and suspect Charlie Taylor will be released as Kompany wants a different type of fullback, more in the Maatsen mould.

I'm fairly certain they will all be released. Easy way to take a big chunk off the wage bill.

Re: Out of contract
Going to discuss this on Friday's episode of From The Bee Hole End (after a Q about it on Twitter).
I'm struggling to make a case for keeping any of them except JBG (and I'm not that convinced that would be a smart move). but agree on continuity being a factor. Poss re-sign Brownhill with a view to selling (if it's possible) but that's about it.
Cork and Jay probably deserve a good final payday elsewhere (MLS?) so good luck to them. Think they'll be plenty of people interested in Taylor so can't see him wanting to extend.

Re: Out of contract
I'd keep Brownhill, and so long as JBL is a bargain I'd take him as well.
We do need new players, we can't bring anyone in unless we make room in the squad. Bit part players on big money contacts have to go first, a shame because some of those leaving have been great for us.

Re: Out of contract
The very last thing we need is to haemorrhage a shed load of the first team squad....again.
It sets us back 10 games in the Championship and 38 in the Prem.
Just a way for the manager to have an excuse.

Sign Fofana and JBL return Trafford to City.Send Tressor back. Sell Wout already cost too much
Offer Jayrod a player coaching role I believe he would make an excellent job of working with youth players.Sell Brownhill and Roberts.Offer Charlie an extention to his deal.

Re: Out of contract
As most of the old guard are now being benched, I think it is already in the managers thoughts to downsize the wage bill and playing staff. Remembering we have quite few out on loan at Championship level and keep the spine i.e Muric, Cullen, Berge, I would be happy. Wingers we have in abundance and if we make money on Odobert, possibly Koleosho, hopefully Trafford, we could look to strengthen more. If finance was not an issues and Southampton stay down I would love for us to go after THB to strengthen that spine, but 2 massive IF's.

Re: Out of contract
Would only keep Taylor and Brownhill if they wanted to stay. JBG definitely no-still remember the ref keeping up with him at Chelsea when both were tracking back. Of the loans only Larsen as a possibility.
Cork, Jay, Peacock Farrell, Bastian, Churlinov, Weghorst, Tresor, Assignon, Forfana (we could never get him anyway), Costelloe, Dodgson, Zarourry, all can go for me

We've got these young guys on further 3 and 4 year deals who are going to annihilate the Championship next season

Berge and Oddobert are likely to be sold, so does that change the views on keeping Brownhill and JBG.

I don't expect any of Rodriguez, Cork or Brownhill to be with us next season. JBG I think has triggered a clause in his contract so can stay should he choose to. Given the reluctance at times to play Taylor, I suspect he might go too.DocSavage wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 10:41 amSo, with Brownhill, Taylor, Rodriguez, Gudmundson and Cork all out of contract at the end of the season and Loanees Assignon, Fofana and Bruun Larson's loans ending who if any would we keep or is it more feasible to get the wages off the books? and would anyone go in for the loanees?

I’d imagine you’re right on all counts. Browny I hope we won’t allow to leave on a free.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 1:44 pmI don't expect any of Rodriguez, Cork or Brownhill to be with us next season. Taylor I’d love to re-sign.
Cork will obviously leave, brilliant servant, and JRod too although I would’ve liked to keep him if he were willing to take a salary reduction to a Championship wage.
Re: Out of contract
Let’s hope, particularly Cork and Rodriguez, that they get an opportunity to say their farewells to the fans and vice versa.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 1:44 pmI don't expect any of Rodriguez, Cork or Brownhill to be with us next season. Re: Out of contract
I believe it's an extension in the club's favour so nothing he can do about it. If it is then we would be daft to let him walk for nothing so I expect an extension and then we'll try and move him on for a fee.

Re: Out of contract
Taylor needs a contract or get money for him.
Brownhill is needed in the Championship.
JRod, Cork & JBG should be released to get their wages off the books.
JBL is the new JBG, try to sign him.
We still have gaps, even for the Championship. LB & striker being priorities.

Re: Out of contract
With there being no international tournament next summer, would Weghorst be prepared to play in the championship? Imagine him and Foster up front being fed by Benson and Koleosho/Zaroury/Odobert
Re: Out of contract
I’d keep Brownhill only. A good player in The Championship but just not quite PL standard.

Re: Out of contract
The big question is
Do you play championship quality players and replace next year?
Or do you get 9 or 10 young players who you think will be good enough to play in the prem when we go back up?
Expecting to put a new team together every time we go up it's stupidity.

Re: Out of contract
there is no way we are successful next season if we have a season with just O'Shea and JBG as players who have played more than on season in the Championship. If Brownhill is going we would 100% have to keep hold of Berge imho and I'm not sure we will. As Quicken says above, putting a new team together again and again is stupidity

Re: Out of contract
Brownhill is a very good championship player and definitely worth keeping even for just one season if he'll stay. JBG could also still do a job at the lower level and Brun Larson would certainly be a cut above the norm for that division, but I can't see him opting to stay as he'll get better offers I feel. The rest no as we need to trim. There's already plenty of guys not getting a proper kick.
Re: Out of contract
Would try and keep Taylor as an experienced campaigner but doubt we will, likewise JBG. Brownhill is obviously decent at Championship level so would like him to stay. JBL would keep if we're likely to sell a raft of wingers which you'd have thought we will.
The rest can go with our thanks.

Charlie Taylor would be a must for me. I think Jack's best days are gone now.
Chelsea will look to put Fofana in the PL or a top league.
JBG. Yes. Josh B. not sure.
