RIP Taffy
He reffed a school game me and Goody played in, he was brilliant with us and what an honour it was for us young lads (I think we were 15 at the time)
Sad news indeed

Re: Taffy
That's so, so sad. Like many of us of a "certain age", I remember him tearing down the wing in the early and mid 70s when he was in his pomp and I even remember him coming back and doing exactly the same for Derby who were heading to the league title the season after he was sold. Great player for Burnley in his first spell, in a great team. Great memories.

Really sad news.
I attended his wedding day down in Swansea all those years ago, so have fond memories of him.
Best wishes to all his family.

I also got chance to play against him in the Burnley Sunday League, think he turned out for a few weeks for the Dugdale Arms if I remember correctly.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 7:24 pmRIP Taffy

Sad news RIP. Coincidentally there’s a few of his ex teammates currently out in a pub in Crawshawbooth I’m sure they’ll be raising a glass tonight and sharing some tales.

Such sad news. He was a special player in a special team. As a poster above said my favourite team in my time watching our wonderful club. My Burnley CC pals shared a cricket dressing room with him and have nothing but fond memories. RIP Taffy.

Re: Taffy
Gutted, he was my first football crush.
I loved seeing him run down the wing, he just had a style of his own.
My favourite Burnley player ever.
My thoughts are with Jemma and the rest of the family.

Re: Taffy
As you can probably tell from my username, he was my favourite ever Burnley player. Loved watching him growing up. Always excited the crowd with his fast and tricky wing play. RIP to a true Claret Legend!

Re: Taffy
So sorry to read this.
Rest in peace Taffy.
He was before my time, although I might have seen him in a game I was too young to remember the players.
All the generation before me loved him and was the player they all talked about.

Gutted.....Leighton James one of my Burnley heroes
Coached us a few times whilst at school at Fearns in the early 70s when I idolised him.
Fantastic footballer, one of my greatest memories of him was up at Celtic in the Anglo Scottish Cup when a few of us went up there.....took the p*ss out out of their full back Danny Magrain who I seem to remember was a well established Scottish international.
God bless you Super Taff and your family and friends.

Rest in Peace the Welsh Wizard
Re: Taffy
Like many on here, I saw him play in the mid/late 70's in what was the old First/Second division alongside the likes of Alan Stevenson, Peter Noble and Brian Flynn.
A tremendous player to watch and all older Clarets will feel sadness with this news.

Re: Taffy
A dark day for all who know him or watched him in action. When Dougie Collins got the ball and 'stroked' it out to Leighton on the left wing I always felt something was likely to happen. So did the opposition because it was usually at least two players trying to stop him. Thankyou, Leighton. RIP

So sorry to hear this. My first sporting hero when I was a kid and first started watching Burnley. I had my Grandma sew the number 11 on my first Burnley shirt in his honour. I guess it's a sign of getting older yourself when your heroes pass away. I will be raising a glass later this evening.
