IP TV advice/info
Just wondering if anyone uses IP TV and, if so, how does it work and compare to Virgin/Sky etc? Do you lose the box (and whatever's recorded on it) if you bin Virgin/Sky?
Also how does it affect broadband and land line i.e. will I need separate contracts with other suppliers for these parts?
Apologies for the general appeal for info but I suspect there might be a few on here who have experience of all this and know the pitfalls (as well as the benefits) which I might otherwise miss.
Thanks in advance

Re: IP TV advice/info
IPTV
You receive your content through an app usually - so legal IPTV can be things like BBC iPlayer, ITV hub etc.
Illegal IPTV are providers that will give you content which is usually not available to you, or offered at a much discounted price to what you would pay through the normal channels such as sky.
IPTV doesn't need a box, you can get it through a Smart TV, you can get it through firesticks and other well known streaming devices.
You won't be able to get the same functionality through IPTV and like anything that you access on the internet, your internet speeds and quality of connection can determine your experience. You won't ever really see a football game on sky buffering or losing quality but you may on IPTV for example.
IPTV can be free too but there are premium providers too. Assuming you are looking at a provider that can replace sky - you are likley going to pay £50-60 a year for a provider that is more stable but you can use KODI and access free content still.
The general appeal for me - having full sky, netflix, amazon and another provider is that I get the 3pm games when we are playing away and not on Sky.
I won't give up sky as I like the convenience of the software and functions that sky q offers and the reliability of it.

Re: IP TV advice/info
If you have Kodi on a firestick what are the best Free apps for streaming football?
I downloaded something called Xanax on advice and it seems OK for films and boxsets but not sure about getting TV or sports (for example I couldn't find anywhere showing BBC1 to watch MOTD)
Also I use Windscribe VPN but it seems to drastically reduce my download speeds which can affect buffering. What are the best free (yes I'm tight) VPN's to use?

Re: IP TV advice/info
The only free VPN I'd use would be Cloudflare's Warp (which is mobile only and has some limitations). For the rest of them the likelihood is that you're being exploited in some way for them to make money. It may just be ads in the app but there's no real reassurance that they're not selling your bandwidth or data.
Re: IP TV advice/info
Forget firesticks.....crap to weak and so so slow they keep buffering
Buy an android box off ebay they run 4k hd and are about 25/30 so even cheaper than a fire stick and dont buy the cheaper 2gb ones buy the 4gb one
I've had this Iptv service now dor three years its perfect and never let me down once.
https://iptv.shop/
Use a vpn the one I'm running at the moment is a free one called wangvpn my sky broadband speed at home is 42 meg and even when I run it through wangvpn it runs at 36 meg even thought I'm connected via germany or france

I use surfshark as my vpn - my "normal" download speed without is about 170mb, with the vpn it drops to about 140. By far the best vpn I've ever used

Re: IP TV advice/info
As mentioned the easiest way to get IPTV is through firestick via a downloaded app.
We still subscribe to Sky but only the basic package (no sport/movies) so we can record programs that we watch but subscribe to IPTV provider so get all sports/movies as well as a whole range of box sets

Re: IP TV advice/info
If you get it, makesure you get it on the new firestick. So you can move it about the house or take it to the caravan or whatever.
Have more than 10meg for your internet connection.
They have all the channels of sky etc but like anything that is cheap, it comes with risks.
Probably best to get IPTV and then see if you want rid. I don't need sky etc but someone has to pay them or there won't be any content to stream.

Re: IP TV advice/info
Agree a fire stick 4K is better than some cheap android box imo also.
But then again I don’t have a link to try and flog you something so maybe I would say that.

Re: IP TV advice/info
I recently came to the conclusion that the only reason I kept sky was to use the recording function and to pause and rewind live TV. I woke up to it and cancelled sky and bought myself a Humax hdr 1100s freesat box. Plugged straight into my sky satellite. All the benefits of the sky box without the £27 a month price tag for the privilege.wilks_bfc wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 5:28 pmAs mentioned the easiest way to get IPTV is through firestick via a downloaded app.

Premium channels from IPTV paid for by the saving made on sky. 2 months sky = 12 months IPTV.

Wouldn’t that only record freeview channels though?karatekid wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 7:37 pmI recently came to the conclusion that the only reason I kept sky was to use the recording function and to pause and rewind live TV. We do record a lot of Sky content to watch later.
The IPTV is only used for sports/PPV and box sets (currently bingeing on 24)
Re: IP TV advice/info
Yeah only freeview but I realised that 90% of what we watched on TV was free to air.
Re: IP TV advice/info
My sky blew up and I had a long wait for a Q box. In the meantime, I read on here about IPTV sports etc and infested in a 4k Firestick.
Now I am part of a 'book club' and for a very reasonable annual sum, I can watch....everything in the world, as it happens.
Admin@ssnibooks.co.uk will answer your questions.
I also have an Android box T95Q but the Firestick is simpler and fine, if you are starting.
I shall watch the cup tomorrow....
All pay per view etc foc.
It is a very good book club!
Others are available.

Most suppliers if not all use the same panels for the channels.

I have an iptv service and run a paid vpn, but you can get most of the 3.00pm kick offs using kodi with the rising tides addon
Re: IP TV advice/info
Cant believe you openly discuss this in a football forum.
Fair enough you want to enjoy football on the cheap, but dont get this place shut down for the rest of us

Re: IP TV advice/info
Get a grip, we are Burnley not Barcelona ffs! also why do people mess about with a vpn? 5 years without one n NO issues! so why pay for something that you dont need?

Re: IP TV advice/info
Did IPTV for a few years - when they work, they're great but I've stopped using them now because I've struggled to tie one up long-term without an issue; either the services closing completely for example, or having technical issues - plus most want bitcoin payment now so as above it's easy enough to find streams instead
Re: IP TV advice/info
I know what you mean. My book club ran into issues, like the rest, when the big provider was closed by the law. However, they switched and reprovided all channels with lots of hard work. Better than ever!
Re: IP TV advice/info
What are people's suggestions for 3 o'clock games now that sportsmania seems to have died a death? I just want something consistent rather than having to hunt for links each week.

Don’t think there’s a way of using a firestick but the provider I use usually uploads it later as an “on demand” (well they have done with UFC/WWE events)

Re: IP TV advice/info
The 'book club' I use happily give access to TV worldwide and somehow, I see that every football match is available live, as is all the pay per view options, eg Mr Fury's fight will appear.

Provider also has a VOD section which all major sports events get put onto to watch for free whenever you like.

Should be good to watch it then instead of the motd on sunday morning.
Re: IP TV advice/info
Haven't read all the responses but iv saved about £700 since last June and haven't missed any sporting event including every 3pm kick off and had the luxury of every box set, film and normal sky package. I may get the very odd snag but it's only for a second every other week.

Not sure where you get the idea that sportsmania has gone. Mine is working better than ever, and has been fo the last 6 weeks or so
Re: IP TV advice/info
Mine refuses to work on any device., I just get "Sports mania error. Check the log for more information". Multiple devices, multiple connections, subscription is still valid.
Their repo is dead as is their forum so I assumed they'd finally gone under.

You need to go to their website, and get your line details from there, they are the details that you put into the app that you are using. The new kodi repo address is on the pinned post of their face book page. I wont post it on here, all the information is available on their facebook page under announcements
