Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
Mental toughness, resilience and team camaraderie all there on show yesterday. It's a combination that any opposition doesn't want to see from us. Hendrick's clever ball skills.prior to his pass to Vydra were a delightful cameo from a player much maligned by some on here.

That sums it up perfectly. One of those days yesterday when all those qualities our team have were on view.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 2:11 pmMental toughness, resilience and team camaraderie all there on show yesterday. I thought it was right to headline Vydra in the report and when the rest of the players let him step forward it said everything.
We’ve been playing well recently but I just thought yesterday said everything about us, as if a weight had been lifted.
Totally agree on Hendrick too. I’ve never understood all the criticism of him. Doesn’t matter where you play him, he gives you a performance more often than not.

Think Jeff has been brilliant since playing in his preferred position, Tony are you aware of any contract talks ?

Would love to see Hendrick sign. Great piece Tony.

We look so much better when we actually do mix it up and not just lump it. It's great to watch.

It is but that’s seven against them without defeat and we’ve been the better side in the three draws in that run.

We don’t lump it and all the accusations come when we lose games. It’s all result based criticism.

Whats been said Tony? Hopefully European football will change his mind and he will sign a new dealClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 5:35 pmIt’s unlikely from what’s been said. I think that’s a real shame but given the stick he gets I’m sure many will be pleased.
Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
Do you think our football has improved since Barnes has been out, or that it's just a coincidence? I accept Barnes was struggling with an injury in his last few games where he looked miles off the pace.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 5:44 pmWe don’t lump it and all the accusations come when we lose games. For me he'd be best used as an impact sub now, throw him on to try and unsettle teams the last 20 minutes, or win us some cheap free kicks if we're under the cosh.

I back our manager all the way, however I was disappointed when we brought in head on a stick last season and even more so when we often brought him on ahead of Vydra who showed what he can do yesterday.

Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
We played some pretty decent football when he was banging them in at the start of the season and also vs West Ham. I think in tight games especially vs the top end sides they are closed down quicker and thus forced to launch it more often.

Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
Didn’t Dyche say something recently about his agent believing he can get him a better deal elsewhere. I’m told there is an offer on the table so will probably depend on what he can get elsewhere and being on a free will help.Blackburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 5:49 pmWhats been said Tony? Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
I think it’s improved because we’ve gained confidence from getting results but that’s how it is for all teams. We were playing some really good football early season with Barnes in the team.jrgbfc wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 5:50 pmDo you think our football has improved since Barnes has been out, or that it's just a coincidence? Will be a shame to see Hendrick leave but, if he is going to go, we should be looking to introduce Brownhill before the end of the season.

To get a better offer surely Hendrick would have to remain in the Premier League? I can't see many teams being interested and that is no way a dig at Jeff who has been a key player for us. He may well find that and still be with us next season.

Fantastic result and performance given the conditions. Not surprised that Dyche chose to have a subtle and justified dig at Gibson and his lack of professionalism in his post match comments either

Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
It was great to see Vydra come up with the goods yesterday. He has always been on the periphery and has sometimes struggled when he has come into the team, however, he showed real professionalism yesterday and put in a great shift and capped it all with a stunning goal.
Certainly not easy to do what he did when you have spent so much time on the bench --a real touch of class and thank you Matej!

Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
He looked lost upto half time and it was interesting to see JRod telling him where to go and what to do. He certainly picked it up quickly and his hour or so will have given him an enormous lift. Looking forward to him playing next week assuming Woody is outAshingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 10:28 pmIt was great to see Vydra come up with the goods yesterday. Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
This paragraph gives me a great deal of pleasure.
"That’s usually the signal for the team to come over but, brilliantly, they allowed Vydra to step forward on his own and take his own curtain call before they all joined him. What a touch from our players that was, and what that says about our dressing room, more so given the big news of the week that had centred around Ben Gibson."

Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
Absolutely ecc - I thought it was a brilliant gesture. It allowed the supporters to chant Vydra’s name before the other players came over.ecc wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:40 pmThis paragraph gives me a great deal of pleasure.

That togetherness is a major part of what we do and what we achieve. It’s key at a club like ours.
Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
There needs to be a new word introduced into the English dictionary for the short / terms selective memory of football fans.
At the start of the season Barnes was playing great and being touted for the England squad.
Wood who is having a very good season comes off injured in one game and some fans already saying we play better football without him.
Jay playing really well now - he didn’t look great in the first few months of the season.
Simple fact is at the level these guys are at they all have talent and the potential to look very good. It’s then about consistency, confidence, form and also what service they are getting. Not surprisingly all that comes and goes - and the difference between £10m and £100m forwards is how often they can do it.
It’s the same with a team - when we are winning / in good form people start to pick out our nicer pieces of play and point out we are not just a long ball team. When we are losing they go straight to saying we can only lump it up. The truth of it is that we play the most long balls in the division - that’s a fact whether we are winning or losing but that is not all we do and never has been.

Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
The Itchen Bridge from Woolston to Southampton is a blood long trek isn't it Tony ... 1/2 a mile uphill then 1/2 a mile downhill (or so it seems ) and on a windy day like Saturday would be bloody dangerous....ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 2:04 pmAccy & Boundary Clarets I think
I took that pic a couple of seasons ago, there was no way I was walking over that bridge last Saturday.
Have a sister living in Netley Abbey near Woolston so we stay there, and have walked over that bridge a few times down the years... and crossed via the old Floating bridge before that was built.

Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
We've parked on the other side of the bridge in the last couple of seasons but none of us were interested in doing that this time. It's a long way for me to walk to be honest and in those conditions it would have been horrendous going over the bridge, and even worse after the match with the pouring rain.Bosscat wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 2:14 pmThe Itchen Bridge from Woolston to Southampton is a blood long trek isn't it Tony ... 1/2 a mile uphill then 1/2 a mile downhill (or so it seems ) and on a windy day like Saturday would be bloody dangerous....

Re: REPORT: Storm Vydra
Slightly off topic:
It seems that there is money available for the right player as apparently we DID bid for Vedat Muriqi in January. (And we were the only ones to bid.)
Had he arrived though, we probably wouldn't have got to see Vydra's wonder goal.
https://turkish-football.com/burnley-of ... -make-bid/
One thing is for sure, if he was to arrive in the summer, he'd certainly provide competition up front.

Interesting that we have been told all season that Sheffield U are like the second coming of the 1970 Brazil team....and they are more long ball than the Clarets who are always described as gritty, predictable and totally reliant on set pieces....FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 3:19 pmhttps://www.premierleague.com/stats/top ... long_balls
