BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER/AUTUMN 2020 (MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Hi All,
I know this becomes a marmite thread, and judging by some comments may not be the most prolific transfer window we have ever had. Whether the links/gossip is click bait or not, sometimes they do produce a genuine line of intent from the club, and it does highlight players that we may not have heard or thought of being anywhere near the club. the thread may drop to page 10 if news reports are correct about no funds for Dyche, but here we go.
Burnley set sights on signing Southampton 25-yr-old....

Burnley signing this 32-year-old Sheffield United star would add immense value to their backline..... (really?)

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I fail to see how he'd add any value monetarily. They must be referring to depth wise. He'd certainly not be a first teamer. Filling a gap with a warm body on the bench at best. One would hope we'd be looking at younger defenders. Though stranger things have happened though. Steven Reid anyone?!ClaretAL wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 8:58 pmBurnley signing this 32-year-old Sheffield United star would add immense value to their backline..... (really?)

Hi CT, I was under the impression the transfer window closes on the the 5th, but loans was up to the 16th, but reading the below I take it we can buy or loan players from the EFL only up to the 16th October, but from anywhere else up to the 5th October?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 8:55 pmDates at

"The Premier League said that following consultation with the English Football League, a domestic-only window will also be added from October 5 and close on October 16.
Transfers between Premier League clubs will not be able to occur during this period, but top-flight sides can trade with EFL clubs and loan or sign players permanently."

Below is what I read although I'm still not sure I fully understand what can happen between 5th and 16th October in this domestic window, it has previously been for Football League clubs to buy/loan domestically so whether it will allow transfers into Premier League I don't know.ClaretAL wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 8:03 amHi CT, I was under the impression the transfer window closes on the the 5th, but loans was up to the 16th, but reading the below I take it we can buy or loan players from the EFL only up to the 16th October, but from anywhere else up to the 5th October?

However, there will be an additional, domestic window that continues through to 5 p.m. on Oct. 16 when clubs will only be able to trade (either loans or permanent registrations) with EFL teams (so not internationally or with other Premier League clubs).

He's someone we have to keep hold of. I feel there's more chance of him staying now SD was forced to give him enough minutes to impress, but I still have a nagging feeling that he won't be here next season.ClaretAL wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 7:31 am"Would tear this league to shreds’: Some Rangers fans want 28-year-old as Jermain Defoe replacement"

Not sure how reliable they are on reporting something like this, meaning the club are actively interested, or whether it's just, as it reads, a suggestion.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
There are some pretty fundamental differences between this and previous seasons, which you’d think an experienced businessman like MG might acknowledge require a more expedient approach:
1. We’ve lost 3-4 senior players. That outcome has been likely for 12 months, certain for 6 weeks. Then there’s Gibson, the requirement to move him on and replace certain for 6 months.
2. Our threadbare squad has been publicly exposed for the last 9 games, our bench an embarrassment really. The team have done brilliantly, but surely MG looks at that bench and realises it’s his job to strengthen it this summer?
3. Our best manager for decades is clearly getting increasingly frustrated. Some swift backing would help quell that speculation.
4. We have a season starting again in 6 weeks.
5. We have a shorter window than ever.
Do appreciate we can’t disclose targets or the efforts we’re making to sign them, but you might expect some speculation to be leaked from agents, etc?

Dyche's ability to get a remarkable run of results with just 13 or 14 senior players to choose from is hardly likely to make our board think we need to bring 4 or 5 signings in over the summer.

Well if it doesn’t, the Board deserves what it gets in terms of relegation and the subsequent loss of revenue/value it would incur.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 11:00 amDyche's ability to get a remarkable run of results with just 13 or 14 senior players to choose from is hardly likely to make our board think we need to bring 4 or 5 signings in over the summer.

If rumours are to be believed Dyche won't be with us next season, so whoever comes in will expect a significant transfer kitty to refresh the squad.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 11:00 amDyche's ability to get a remarkable run of results with just 13 or 14 senior players to choose from is hardly likely to make our board think we need to bring 4 or 5 signings in over the summer.
And although we've dug results out, we were running on empty in the Wolves & Norwich games, and but for a late penalty award, and Norwich losing the plot, we may well not have got 4 points out of those games.
So we definitely need to strengthen this summer, or it's going to be a long season.

Anyone expecting a large transfer kitty would be foolish, and on the off chance that we do decide to loosen the strings so to speak - I’d prefer to loosen them for the manager who has earned that right with us .tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:25 pmIf rumours are to be believed Dyche won't be with us next season, so whoever comes in will expect a significant transfer kitty to refresh the squad.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I wouldn't disagree with you, but any new manager worth his salt will expect money to spend, arguably if he aren't going to splash the cash, then our best hope of staying in this league is keeping hold of SD, so in the worst case scenario we're facing a double whammy, losing Sean and bedding a new manager in with limited funds, and anybody who did succeed Sean will have a short period to implement their style on this squad, all that potential disruption doesn't bode well for the early weeks of the season.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:41 pmAnyone expecting a large transfer kitty would be foolish, and on the off chance that we do decide to loosen the strings so to speak - I’d prefer to loosen them for the manager who has earned that right with us .

We need a lot more than 4 signings.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Yes we do but we won't get them and that's the problem and why the media is full of rumours about SD leaving.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Do we assuming nobody leaves bar Gibson, then i'd say we only need a RW to replace Lennon, another CM/RM to replace Hendrick, maybe another CB to replace Gibson, and possibly another RB to take over from Bardsley or Lowton in time, that would be the minimum requirement for me, most other positions are covered when everyone's fit.
We don't need to totally over haul the squad this summer, as generally clubs that do that struggle due to the continuity being disturbed.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
If dyche leaves then he will be replaced by a manager from the lower leagues and mg will be hoping that the new manager brings in some bargains saving the club a fortune and picking up £10 mil from dyche going elsewhere

I think the thought of 38 games next year with a choice of Bardsley and Lowton at right back is a bit worrying. Just seen what a gem Brighton picked up as a right back from Chelsea. They looked like scoring every time he over lapped

Almost spot on. I you had removed the maybe about a replacement for Gibson, then perfect. I was hoping that Watford stayed up,tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 4:55 pmDo we assuming nobody leaves bar Gibson, then i'd say we only need a RW to replace Lennon, another CM/RM to replace Hendrick, maybe another CB to replace Gibson, and possibly another RB to take over from Bardsley or Lowton in time, that would be the minimum requirement for me, most other positions are covered when everyone's fit.

so we could have swop Dawson for Gibson.
It is obvious that we have no attacking threat from right back compared the Taylor and that that is holding us back.

Sean Dyche's warning to Burnley board as boss discusses contracts and drops positive hint on future
Sean Dyche issued a warning to the Burnley board to act quickly on contract decisions and ensure clarity in the Clarets plans moving forward ahead of next season.
The Turf boss suggested he was happy to stay at the club saying 'as long as I know what the challenge is, I’m happy to manage.'
But he doesn't want a repeat of the situation earlier this summer when senior players' contracts ran down and the likes of Jeff Hendrick left the club.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Apart from Hendrick (who has been linked with AC Milan, Manchester United and various others and whose agent, it seems, is pretty convinced he could get more than us elsewhere - and - so I read with quotes from his international manager - wanted to leave to play in central midfield so was never likely to be staying) who were these senior players? I am sick of reading that messaging.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 10:04 amSean Dyche's warning to Burnley board as boss discusses contracts and drops positive hint on future

Joe Hart, Aaron Lennon, Adam Legzdins and whoever else were not 'senior players' in anything other than age. Lennon is 33 and has barely played any meaningful role for us apart from that first 6 month period following when he signed. He was an OK bench option but was barely involved. Hart and the other keeper who's name I probably spelt wrong were even more useless to us, with Hart probably being by far our highest wage earner too.
I am still so confused by this! I can only assume Sean Dyche has tried to create a mountain out of a molehill with it to put pressure on Garlick to release funds this summer, not sure what else it could be as surely we would not have been looking to extend any contracts this summer bar Hendrick?

Not a link directly to Burnley but Marcus Edwards is an England u21 international playing for Guimares in Portugal. Apparently available for 4 million euros.
Would be an unreal signing for right midfield. 7 goals and 9 assist in 26 games this season. Really hope we take a look at him.
