Surely could only offer a pay as you play role if he intends to carry on playing.

Re: Tark - transfer
That’s good and bad news. I think adding him onto the books on a minimal wage whilst getting his badges could be a good move even if he can pop up to lift the crowd for the last 10/15 mins if needed.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 8:55 pmOnly about his badges though - not even considered fit enough to play Belgian football now unfortunately

Re: Tark - transfer
Given he’s suffered more injuries since he left, and given how far away he was the last time he played, I would hope not.
He’s not been fit now in over two years. I’d love to see the Defour back who played August 2017 to January 2018 but that’s not going to happen. Don’t think he’s ever been a player either to influence a game as a sub.

Re: Tark - transfer
If we sign Defour back, we’ve completely lost the plot (and I loved him more than anyone). As CT says, he’s been injured for about 2 years.

Fair points, surely it’d be better to have him on the bench though instead of a 17 year old who has no chance of coming on.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 9:00 pmGiven he’s suffered more injuries since he left, and given how far away he was the last time he played, I would hope not.

If we’re relying on Defour from a playing perspective, then our whole scouting network should be sent to the job centre.

Don't normally like commenting on transfer activity. However if the story comes via John Percy it's usually got 'legs'. It wouldn't surprise me if Tarks went but I'd be very surprised if it's to East London.

Re: Tark - transfer
Two things.
Losing key players before we’ve even plugged any of the serious gaps in the squad would be horrendous.
Tarkowski is the only senior centre half we have who looks likely to be fit for the early games of the season.
In short, losing him would be a disaster.

20 Mill? Surely that doesn't buy one of Tarky's legs! Consider the value of Maguire and Tarky is a far better player all round. The add must have been huge.

Only serious speculation for weeks has been around Gibson. We’ve lost 3 players in an arguably understrength squad and clearly have no replacements lined up. Our only link is a Championship centre back & now our best centre back is subject to a bid from a direct rival/club below us.
Re: Tark - transfer
Would we let Gibson leave knowing that there’s a chance Tarks is off too?
Or was the Gibson situation so far down the road that he was getting moved on regardless?

Tarks and Pope leave ,we get relegated simple as that ,and why would they want to stay when their manager made it clear he didn’t want to

Was apparently Pope who told some of his “staff” that he’s moving. Not sure how true it is though or if he is moving to a different house in same area.

Apparently West HAm have tabled a bid of 20m + add ons for Tarks.
I think we've turned it down but they may come back with another offer?
https://sportslens.com/report-west-ham- ... ki/311751/
As others have said we can't afford to lose .
Even if the offer was up to 40m.

Alfie Mawson is linked with Bristol city
We were after him 2 years ago, cheap and has some PL experience.
Certainly an age where he can develope

Re: Tark - transfer
Whoever wrote that report missed all the stuff put into the public domain by Luton. They were the club that sold Gray to Brentford. Luton reported both their cut of the transfer fee that Brentford received when Gray moved to Burnley and their share of the transfer fee received by Burnley when Gray moved to Watford. So, the "tremendous value" and "huge profit" was I think 25% lower than claimed.Wembley09 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 8:22 pmWas reading an article just last month about Gray, and how we got a great deal selling him to Watford.
Burnley got tremendous value from Andre Gray and made a huge profit on selling him
Burnley signed Gray for what was then a club record £9m from Brentford back in 2015 (as per BBC), a move which worked wonders for him and the Clarets. They more than doubled their money on him with the sale to Watford, for whom he has scored just 16 times in 94 appearances – less than half of his 33-goal tally at Turf Moor inside 78 games at the Lancashire club.

Still decent business.

Re: Tark - transfer
Why would Tarkowski want to join West Ham?
If the club sell him for £20m they are crazy.
If the club sell him for £20m they are crazy.
Re: Tark - transfer
The club will sell him if the income covers a replacement and generates a surplus to balance the books. Tarks may have moved to the point where he has reached max value. He should be sold. That's the only business model that works for BFC if we want to remain effectively a community club. In this case it should be easy to slot a replacement in to our defensive model.
Alternative we sell the club to investors.
Same with Pope and Dwight.
Life doesn't stop moving on.

Re: Tark - transfer
It goes back to the repeated misunderstanding of what Garlick said in April, which is still widely shared by Burnley fans never mind anyone else. People think we are broke, we are most definitely not broke.
Garlick's nightmare scenario was based on no more football through to now and no sign of when football would start again from now, it was forged on the understanding of what our contractual/obligated outgoings were in that timeframe and where our financial situation would be if no monies were coming in because on no football being played and no sign of it being played in the near future - that has very clearly not happened. It also quite clearly indicated that we had £50m in cash at the point of lockdown.
If the reports are to be believed that the Premier League are to pay in full last season's distribution then we have just come off the back of a season were we likely recorded record revenues, due to increased TV monies - if that is the case then the season itself will likely have generated a profit and a cash uplift - the news of the PPTV deal may change that.
Many will read this and think we have money to spend, we will have some, but our board will be looking down the track at reduced TV monies over multiple seasons whether in the Premier League or on Parachute payments (a result of rebates etc), likely challenges on the commercial front with probable reductions in a number of areas, and minimal income from matchday - our traditional compact ground is not well equipped for social distancing.
The board will oversee the necessary adjustments to ensure our club withstands the financial hazards of the coming seasons and seek to keep us free from debt and in robust health. Unfortunately the reward for being the only club in the country not needing to ask the owners or lenders for money during this crisis is continued prudence and of course the existence of our treasured club

Re: Tark - transfer
Even if West Ham met the release clause. Tarkowski would be mad to go to West Ham. Car crash of a club on and off the pitch. He'd not be enhancing his chances of an England call up in a team who regularly bobs along towards the bottom end of the table and just don't seem capable of building a team capable of any consistency. They've long been a group of individuals on the field as opposed to a 'team' with no real identity, cohesion or solid plan. He'll have been poorly advised or just plain blinkered if he chose to go there. More chance of a Europa League spot with us than them.

Re: Tark - transfer
With BPF looking decent, Norris just signed and Jensen in reserve, if we are going to sell one of the Crown Jewels it would make far more sense for it to be Pope than Tarkowski.
Re: Tark - transfer
Yet another MOM performance last night. You'd do well to remember Heaton and Pope both joined us from clubs relegated from the Championship and both went on to play for England.

And more than that, it wouldn’t surprise me if this low ball Tarky bid was just to distract from them selling one of their upcoming stars. A “show of ambition” to demonstrate they are trying to bring players in when realistically there’s no way that it’ll be accepted.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 7:21 amNot quite sure of the backstory to it but Mark Noble has just publicly criticised the club for selling a young player to West Brom. Tarks moved North to be nearer to family
Why join one of the relegation candidates which is further away than his previous club
Brentford
£50m minimum price and we needs a hands off statement from Mike on Monday to reiterate hes not for sale.

Re: Tark - transfer
Still not convinced the bid was actually made especially with it being common knowledge about Tarks £50m release clause. Anyway why would he want to join a struggling club who almost got relegated and lost twice to us last season.

Because despite the fact we were better than them last season, they are by far a bigger club with a better chance of long term PL success than us.
