Harry Wilson
No, not Harry The *******, but the Liverpool player - Liverpool's Athletic Journalist has just tweeted that Burnley are in talks to buy him.

Aye - I saw afterwards, but when I saw the thread count on that go up, I just presumed another squabble had broken out.

Not seen much of Wilson to be fair. Took his goal well at Burnley, the goal that give me the biggest laugh of the season, but he's got a bit of experience now in loans over the past couple of seasons and scored a few goals as well.

Highly rated by a lot of people and can score goals as well. If we can nick him for £12 to £15 million, it might just be the deal of the window.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 3:06 pmOne of the reasons I'm staying away from it although I will be dealing with it.

Not 100% sold on his overall game but his set pieces are fantastic. Would be a great signing.

Re: Harry Wilson
Right sort of profile. Progressive, looked to have good ability playing for Bournemouth, travels with the ball at pace. Chris Boden suggesting that the Athetic might have jumped the gun. Burnley probably hoping to keep it quiet to others aren’t as aware, although in the modern world of agents etc, I’m not sure it has any effect.

Re: Harry Wilson
strange that he couldn't get in a poor Bournemouth team, from what I've seen of him at this level he gets brushed off the ball quite easily, undoubted quality on it though. Our lads will toughen him up !

Re: Harry Wilson
An absolutely excellent bit of business if true. Exactly what we need.
Re: Harry Wilson
The odd article I’ve seen suggests that Klopp’s main concern with him is his lack of work for the team. Hopefully if we do sign him, it’s something that Dyche and the coaching staff can I still in him.
It’d take a bit of weight off the shoulders of Dwight, with someone else expected to contribute on the opposite flank (and perhaps allow us to rest him a little, when needed).
A great free kick taker as well, which would be a real bonus.

20 starts and 11 sub appearances. He may not have established himself but 31 league appearances isn't bad over a single season. 37 appearances for derby the year before. Despite his restricted game time at Bournemouth he still weighed in with 7 goals and he bagged 15 when at Derby.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 3:21 pmstrange that he couldn't get in a poor Bournemouth team, from what I've seen of him at this level he gets brushed off the ball quite easily, undoubted quality on it though. Sounds like the sort of signing that all the Stevens detractors on the other thread were asking for. Two weeks left until deadline day....I'm sure someone mentioned that we always do our business at the end of the window.

Re: Harry Wilson
Didn't we have a player called Harry Wilson in the 70s?
Edit: Yep. 12 games between 1970 and 1973. He was a defender.

Unbelievable if this comes off. Had no expectations we’d be in for such an exciting player. Do hope it doesn’t mean Tarks is off though.

Re: Harry Wilson
Why would the potential signing of an attacking player signal the sale of a centre half?

Re: Harry Wilson
Bit of a surprise this especially as it seems as if
it's a permanent deal.
Would be pleasantly pleased if this came off but suspect
we're only likely to be offering well below what Liverpool
might want so shall hold back at present.

Re: Harry Wilson
That's why I remember him. Was trying to place his name and face. Wasn't he with us in a coaching role in the early/mid 00's? Went down to a few games at Gawthorpe and sure he was there around the same time as Branchy playing for the U23's.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 3:43 pmHarry worked for us for a number of years as a coach too. Re: Harry Wilson
well my point was if he is that good he would have started every game. I watched a few of their games, I'll agree with what someone said further up in that his work rate isn't good enough;but that was for Bournemouth and Eddie isn't the best motivator by a long shot.dibraidio wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 3:35 pm20 starts and 11 sub appearances. We need a winger, we need younger players, he's an international and has PL experience - all depends if the Chairman sees value in him I guess. He would be great on our set pieces though that's for sure !

Re: Harry Wilson
No, earlier than that. He was with us for a few years and then moved to Bury with Stan. Went on to work for the Football League I think then. Know Harry well but haven't seen him now in a good few years. I know he made his Burnley debut at Chelsea on a Monday night in May 1971.

Re: Harry Wilson
Ahh must have been earlier, maybe the Graham Lancashire era? Certainly remember chatting to him. Was a big fella with a north east accent. Quite imposing to look at but very friendly. Mind you, also saw when he was angry with the referee.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 3:50 pmNo, earlier than that. He was with us for a few years and then moved to Bury with Stan. Re: Harry Wilson
Some comments from the Bournemouth Forum.
You can see why his single ability might be useful to them.
It'll take about 15 minutes for Burnley's fans to hate him.
offers absolutely nothing anywhere you play him

Harry was assistant to Jimmy Mullen.
His son was in my class at school. He was a good lad.

Re: Harry Wilson
from a Liverpool fan, seems to agree with most of what some of us think
"I think Wilson is a good player but still needs to develop. Good short / long distribution, excellent in set pieces, a technical player on the ball, proven in the PL, a decent goal record and a good shot taker in open play. He lacks work off the ball and defensive contribution. Still at 23, a very good age to get some development.
If you think that from the PL players being 23 years or younger in 19/20 season, only 7 players scored more than him playing more matches in the likes of Rashford, Abraham, Jesus, Calvet Lewin, Richarlison, Greenwood and Pulicic and he has the same goal tally as Jota and Mount having score 7 in 31 matches with a relegated club its a good goal contribution. 20M a good price for Burnley. Unfortunately does not fit in our style of play."

I seem to remember the earlier Harry Wilson rather unfairly getting booed on his debut (we were going through a bad run of form at the time) but it might be my memory playing me false?

Re: Harry Wilson
Truly AWESOME if this comes off. He is deadly at freekicks. We need to get Barnesy fit so he can get fouled on the edge of their box
Only downside is if he is left footed, but that obviously does not put SD off. Pray it comes off

Just read them. Surprising. Can't say I watched much of his overall game when he was with them, just saw he scored a few goals, so thought they would be more complimentary.
