What I don’t like is the media whoring him out to “big” clubs all the time - “surely Man Utd should make a move for Tarkowski” or “Leicester are still to make a move for him” I keep hearing snippets whilst listening to Sky Sports news etc, they have zero respect for our club as far as I can see
Can only help if Tarks has already said he won't sign an extension.

Hearing that he's been ruled out by SD for Saturday.

Has SD ruled him out or has the player himself?

I've no idea, and not sure on the accuracy of the source, I'm just passing it on. It wouldn't surprise me though if he's not in the squad again. If he was close to a return, you'd expect him to be at least on the bench, when you take into account SD said he was close for the Millwall game.

Surely such a horrendous toe injury would mean he won’t pass a medical until 2023?

The West Ham way: soaring wages, bad recruitment and blaming fans

The club have never been far away from a crisis under the ownership of Sullivan and Gold

The Times, Matt Dickinson, 5pm Thurs 24th.

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/5704 ... ff3a27404a

Worth a read.

A few extracts:

“I had to bully the manager into signing [Issa] Diop and [Lukasz] Fabianski,” he said, eager to take credit for two of the more successful signings, certainly when compared to Sébastien Haller at £45 million.

No club is immune from bad purchases but most know it pays to establish a system that operates with a strategy and smart staff feeding detailed information into a manager and board. West Ham’s scouting and recruitment has been a mess for some time, not least because Sullivan likes to add his own idiosyncratic decisions to the mix, sitting in his Essex mansion playing Football Manager for real.

Funds they are now struggling to spend because everyone knows they are desperate for a centre-half, as shown by bidding as much as £30 million for Burnley’s James Tarkowski, in a frantic late scramble.

I've added the underline. I wonder how much Matt Dickinson thinks WHU should have bid if the weren't desperate?

If this toe "injury" is going to keep him out until the end of the window and maybe beyond, surely it would be best to maximise his value now
It's now almost as unbelievable as the "unique" issue we had with Gibson, and we know how long and how much that cost us

What has he actually done to his toe ? If it was broken or torn ligaments I could understand it. Maybe it’s protecting a saleable asset if takeover doesn’t take place.

Could he have a hairline fracture? I had one in my little toe just by stepping in a divot in a field. Bloody painful too. Took a few weeks to heal.

If Tarks doesn't engineer a move, then we should hold out for 40 million. Even then I think we should keep him. However if he puts in a transfer request, or refuses to play, then it might force our hand somewhat.

Remember when we sold Keane? Wasn't he out for a few games with a "back" injury at the time?

Be interesting how this all develops. West Ham apparently changed their target to the same St Etienne defender Leicester are after, but want to pay it in instalments over six years. Around £4 million a season.

Maybe now Amertey or Morgan if we don't need Choudhury

Thing is, when the rumours started about Tarkowski (start of this thread) I, probably like many on here, thought we’d be screwed in defence without him.

Since seeing Dunne and Thomas play, I have no deep rooted worries anymore.

Whoever plays alongside Mee will improve. Kevin Long will be fine, as will Dunne and Thomas or Dawson if those rumours are true.

It’s that shape we play that makes them look good, cash in now whilst the money is offered I say.

The thread actually started saying Tarky had put in a transfer request. To say it come from a good source and he hasn't played yet this season. I would suggest he was right.

Is a sell on at his age really worthwhile? He would have to really pull up trees quickly at Leicester to be in demand from an even bigger club and for any sell on to be worthwhile. This will be the biggest move of his career and so we should be demanding money upfront not sell ons.

Maybe, but I'd want the sell on as a free extra, along with £40 million.

Apparently they only made two bids. Not that £25/26 million would get Tarks anyway, but if they structured the bid the same way as they have with the St Etienne defender. £24-6 million split over six years. No wonder we gave it short shrift.
