Why would we want another forward, unless Vydra is off

Seems to know where the onion bag is, at a lower level of course. 107 goals in 167 games. 25 years old.

Indeed, but I can't help thinking that if Vydra was playing for Dundee at that level he'd probably have 167 in 167 (or better!), so we may well be much better with what we have. It's just so difficult to judge how good people really are when the gulf in standards is so vast.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 2:13 pmSeems to know where the onion bag is, at a lower level of course. 107 goals in 167 games. 25 years old.

It runs obviously deeper than results for people if you opened your eyes, people are generally fed up from top to bottom about things, admittedly covid hasn't helped as well with people's mental health & enthusiasm towards the game.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Isn't Vydra into his final year now? Makes sense to get 6 or 7 million for him if we can given that Barnes will no doubt walk straight back into the team and Vydra will be back to 4th choice.

Add it to the dry powder store. Or put it towards a right sided midfielder.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Shankland has been prolific at all the levels he's played at, and the one thing he does know is how to finish, he's also only just turned 25 so he'd add an element of youth to our attack, which we lack, I do wonder if bringing him in would mean that Vydra is moving on, because I can't see us carrying 5 strikers, 6 if you include young Thompson, so we'd have to clear the decks before any incomings.
Shankland shouldn't cost the earth, and the Micky Mellon connection might prove helpful if we're genuinely interested, he's a name I've mentioned before on here, even when he was plying his trade in the lower reaches of the Scottish leagues, and we could do a lot worse then snapping him up for a modest fee, don't know what they'd be asking, but my guess is £2-3 million would be enough to prick their ears, and we could always put add-on's/sell on clauses into any deal to sweeten it.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I wouldn't want to lose Vydra, especially if it the intention to bring in a midfield playmaker like Christie.
Vydra makes some wonderful runs that most of the time aren't seen by the present midfielders. Maybe someone like Christie would do? After all, he has a marvellous 'Assists' record.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
And if our left doesn't preform as well? Or if teams have learnt that is where we only have a threat?
Expectations must really be at an all time low if we don't think we need to bother with a RM because our Centre mid (who is no longer here) filled in that position.

Agree completely, Vydra offers something different from our strikers, if anything I’d like to see a further contract offer being tabled.

Keep season tickets frozen again would be a start
After that couldnt care less if they burnt the money

Can't see us letting him go anyway as we are already short of bodies. We need at least a couple in, and none out.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I'm not saying that every player who isn't snapped up by a PL side isn't good enough, I am saying that the reason that we haven't gone in for Eliasson is quite possibly because we don't think that he's good enough. And the lack of interest from other PL sides and the reported transfer fee of just £2m suggests that could well be the case.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
We should be all over that for £2.2m. Just as a great crosser, would be worth it if he stuck a few on Woodys head per year. Plus could be used as a makeweight in deals infuture if it doesn’t work out. Seems a no brainer to me!Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 1:34 pmthis annoys me - at this money we must be mental to not go after him given his stats

True, but we do have a certain style that would suit his crossing game (two big men up top). Wouldn’t surprise me to see others less interested but I’m disappointed we’re not.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 2:56 pmI'm not saying that every player who isn't snapped up by a PL side isn't good enough, I am saying that the reason that we haven't gone in for Eliasson is quite possibly because we don't think that he's good enough. Might get shot down but always liked Matt Philips at West Brom, 29 bags of experience. Not first choice for them. His stats last season albiet in the championship were very good. Jed Wallace from Millwall, good age and bags of talent.
Dyche siad hes not keen on a loan, but lot's of clubs need to offload players Everton, Chelsea etc.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Maybe, I've honestly not seen anywhere near enough of him to say either way. But from what I've read BC had to adapt their formation last season to accommodate him, and this season he's been playing out of position at left wing back. I'm not writing him off by any means, I just think that PL scouting teams would be all over him at £2m if they thought he could cut it at the top level.

Macauley Bonne been signed by QPR from Charlton could that mean Osayi-Samuel is on the move?
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Isn't Bonne a striker and Osayi-Samuel a winger?
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
That would be so Burnley.leightonjameslegend wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 3:10 pmMight get shot down but always liked Matt Philips at West Brom, 29 bags of experience. Not first choice for them. His stats last season albiet in the championship were very good.
And we'd be rightly slated for it.

I understand your point, but given our lack of numbers I would say that 2.5 million on him, given his stats, is far less of a gamble (especially financially) than spending 16 million on Wilson.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 2:56 pmI'm not saying that every player who isn't snapped up by a PL side isn't good enough, I am saying that the reason that we haven't gone in for Eliasson is quite possibly because we don't think that he's good enough. None were in for Westwood either.
Did you think he was rubbish?
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Lawrence Shankland sounds like he could have played for us ~100 years ago, along with Jimmy Dunne and Bobby Thomas.
I like this strategy, hope it gets done.

Less of a gamble from a financial point of view, but I can only surmise that the professionals thought that Wilson could do the job and Eliasson couldn't. The respective transfer values suggests there could well be a disparity in quality also.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 3:48 pmI understand your point, but given our lack of numbers I would say that 2.5 million on him, given his stats, is far less of a gamble (especially financially) than spending 16 million on Wilson.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Covid has affected a lot of companies and clubs, and we have seen some of the measures taken by companies to trim staff levels.
If the club is therfore so skint, why are we not making redundancies in the RECRUITMENT team which now seems quite sizeable in terms of people and salaries. Can we even justify it based on results. Its been running for 2 years and we have in terms of first team Pieters, Jay Rod, Hart, Brownhill and Stephens to show for it. I believe Jay Rod was on the cards for several years anyway and Brownhill was being tracked for some time too, and we know Stephens nearly signed for us 4 years ago. Lets face it based on this window and our finances we are unlikely to be pulling in new players for quite a while. Plus our recruitment from abroad is abysmal. Is Mr Garlick pleased with what has been achieved by this team. It seems that SD spends the majority of his press talks back-pedalling on recruitment of player questions, when he should be focused on the next game

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I wouldn't call Pieters, Stephens or Hart first team, they are more like squad player's, back up player's to the first team, so in two year's we have brought in 2 regular first team player's J Rod ( could be classed back up cover) and Brownhill who will be a first team starter each week, so in reality they have found one regular first team player in two years...........POORwarksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 4:14 pmCovid has affected a lot of companies and clubs, and we have seen some of the measures taken by companies to trim staff levels.

I have it good authority that the club is working extremely hard on bringing in the right type of players to improve the quality of the first team, but it's really hard finding them for a £1

Albert Adomah left Forest. Worth a punt? Fits our criteria. Free, right side. Right age

Perhaps it's time to replace our recruitment team who have failed miserably to attract and sign first team ready players.
It's also time for Mike Mike Garlick to produce a statement of intent as to how he sees us progressing without new blood in the squad
