Burnley's move for Wales winger Harry Wilson, 23, could now collapse as they are reluctant to meet Liverpool's £15m asking price. (Football Insider)
Sound familiar, if true ?

Sean: Well he’s gone to Bayern.
Mike: Oh, phew.

I like jelly babies but I wouldn't pay 50 quid for a bag of them however hungry I was.
At current prices I still struggle to see more than 7/8m tops in Wilson.

I'm more than happy for us to walk away if Liverpool are trying to have our car up on bricks, as they seem to have a habit of doing (see Solanke, Ibe and MAYBE Brewster). Wilson would have been an excellent "punt" at the right price, but he really is a punt and hardly pulled up trees previously or warrants any club pushing the boat out and breaking their transfer record, especially us. Move on by all means, but I just hope we have been thinking about where we might move on to all along!

And we’ve shown in the past we are really good at moving on and signing our other targets in the last few days of the transfer window!?

That's why I find it ironic but had Gibson actually gone to Norwich before we knew about Mee's injury?

Doesn't matter who the recruitment team identify or put forward, the final decision is made by the man who signs the cheques.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 12:29 pmLove the way how over 2 years we have built up this huge team of Technical Director and analysts claiming to know everything about any player in the world-probably can tell us what these guys eat for lunch
So what are the results two years down the line for this much needed window, with two days to go. One is Stephens who we should have signed 4 years ago. Now the next rumor at the twelfth hour is Dawson who we have been courting since our initial interest in Stephens and who we have tried to sign half a dozen times. Both of course are very needy players for us. However Mr Garlick is this the best your team of recruiters can do
If they found the next Messi and Mike said computers says no, hows that the recruitment teams fault?

I agree, but the problem is the Plan B always seems to be the older, back-up players. The right-wing and Centre back positions are a priority for us right now and I can't see us signing any first teamers at this late stage.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 12:34 pmI'm more than happy for us to walk away if Liverpool are trying to have our car up on bricks, as they seem to have a habit of doing (see Solanke, Ibe and MAYBE Brewster). Much as I would like to see a couple added, I realise it has to be the right ones at the right prices. If all the boxes are not ticked then I’d rather we did not blow multiple millions the club are uncomfortable about paying. If we have to go with what we have, or can bring in a rabbit Or two out of the hat before the deadline... then that is just the way it is in the current climate. Player values are likely to keep dropping while the virus rules the world. Tougher than ever to justify expenditure when you know the asset is likely to depreciate before it grows.... like buying stocks when the market is falling, you hold until you see some stability returning.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
And I agree in turn with you. We have to turn away from Wilson and suddenly try to land our "alternative(s)" with the window about to slam shut and we really haven't got a good record there. I can't name all the various players involved in those deals off the top of my head, but Sordell was definitely one and Vydra (who I happen to rather like) definitely was too and I think SD showed his displeasure at being foisted with a last minute, rushed, third or fourth choice signing by freezing him out for much of his time with us.burnleymik wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 1:20 pmI agree, but the problem is the Plan B always seems to be the older, back-up players. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I can't see that one happening.
Lolley is a good player and he strikes me as being a better fit for us than Wilson. He has done really well since he moved to Forest, becoming a firm fan favourite, and playing in front of Cash seemed to bring out the best in him.
When he had to play on the left wing he didn't look that shabby either.
Selling Matty Cash has given Forest some financial freedom, on top of them having a very rich owner. When we supposedly expressed an interest in signing Worrall they put a price tag of 12m on him and they stuck firmly to it.
Joe Lolley signed up to a new four and half year contract with them in February of last year and he is one of their primary creators. They don't really have another dedicated player for the right wing slot, apart from the untested Mighten, although they have a few players who can fill in ( their forwards and Freeman ).
Now, towards the end of last season Lolley suffered badly from shin splits and every team has had a very short respite between last season and this season. If we look at the playing stats of Lolley since the start of this season his performances are down and he is spending less time on the pitch before being substituted. He got 59 minutes in their first game, 36 in their second, 14 in their third and he wasn't in their squad for the last game. That strikes me as unusual, when we consider that they lost all three of those games and he is one of their most important players. You would think having him on the pitch for the whole game would be imperative.
https://www.nottinghamforest.news/2019/ ... am-forest/
https://forest.vitalfootball.co.uk/repo ... ssociated/
I think those shin splits are still troubling him, which wouldn't be surprising, because he hasn't really had a full rest period. Severe shin splits can take a number of inactive months to heal.
So, Lolley is an important player for Forest, he is a fan favourite, they have no suitable replacement player in their squad, they aren't desperate for money and he might be injured.
I could be wrong about his possible price, his availability and injury, but I would hope we have a few other options to work with in case I'm right.
If it did happen he would probably cost us a lot of lolly - sorry the best ice pop puns were taken.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I don't want us to appear desperate. It sounds like we want to buy and it might be our only chance of bringing in someone to compete with JBG... but at the same time Liverpool don't want to keep him and want to get the best price for him.
I think we need to find an alternative and basically tell Liverpool - take it or leave it.

Because he is unproven. He has scored a lot of goals, but they have all been in the Scottish Championship. He did play in their Premiership with Aberdeen for one season and failed to score in 17 matches, but that was 4 years ago and he will have improved since then.
After his contract ran out with Ayr United he attracted some passing interest from a couple of Championship clubs, but instead of welcoming a greater challenge in England or signing for Rangers ( who reputedly enquired about his availablity ) he signed for Dundee and stayed in the Scottish Championship.
This isn't the first time that we have been linked with him. I recall a couple of rumours about interest in him when Rigg first arrived.
The bigger question is why would we need another striker and why would Dundee send their golden boy out on loan for 500K in their first season back in the Premiership. 500K won't go far towards fixing a financial short fall if they do have one.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
i would like us to offer 1.5m more and meet them halfway. The more I look at his highlights the more I can see he is just what we need, and very similar technique to Beckham on free kicks

I can only assume we really did have no budget at all and any incomings (sans Stephens) were down to Tarky going.
