We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
In Pope, JBG, Wood, Taylor, Tarkowsi and even Barnes to a lesser extent we've unearthed some top talent from the Championship.
So the question is, are there any more players we can possibly attract who won't cost the earth but are good enough to play in the Prem?

No - we can't afford them any more.Spijed wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 5:11 pmIn Pope, JBG, Wood, Taylor, Tarkowsi and even Barnes to a lesser extent we've unearthed some top talent from the Championship.

Given that a large part of our First Team Squad is 30+ , where are going to find their replacements over the next 12/18 months ?

Leagues 1 and 2 are still available as are numerous European Leagues if our scouting network stretches that far.

Most of us as not exactly happy bunnies right now with the situation. The sad thing is it was foreseeable about 4 or 5 windows ago.

Dyche highlighted this to the chairman 2 years ago, nothings happened since to rectify it, doubt he will start acting now 6 hours before the window closes.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 5:26 pmGiven that a large part of our First Team Squad is 30+ , where are going to find their replacements over the next 12/18 months ?
But it's ok, as we aim to end the window stronger than when it started...
As long as we keep aiming all is well.
Oh and season tickets are frozen again

We can afford to buy someone, but there needs to be confidence in a sell-on.

None - I was very much of the belief that nothing was going to happen. It still could, and I'd be caught out, but I'd be very, very surprised if it did.

Is this a bloody wind up....championship players that can play in the prem cost a minimum of 10 million but more like 20, there is no bargains to be had these day's, but even if they were we apparently after spending the last five year's in the premier league have no money.......BLOODY EMBARRASSING

The question is would there have been money to spend were it not for a pandemic forcing ground closures and possible repayment of TV monies?
If the answer is still No then it is embarrassing.

Surely the "capture" of Stephens from under the noses of the other "suitors" means we're clearly stronger than when the window opened!!! Let's be honest here!

Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
Players that are scoring loads of goals and bossing midfields in The Championship are obviously going to command a premium fee. Clubs that have spotted these players in the lower leagues and developed them (Brentford signing Ollie Watkins from Exeter City) are quite rightly going to cash in when they move the player on.
Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
A bit surprised Buendia is still at Norwich. Not really suited to how we play and almost certainly out of our price range, but apart from that he'd be a great signing for us

Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
Villa are still shopping there because of Dean Smiths knowledge of this League-Watkins, Cash and their new centre half from Brentford getting great reviews reviews
We talked about getting Watkins, Cash and Jarred Bowen several years ago-now look at their values. We really need to spend time analysing how Brentford plan their sales and replacements. They apparently plan replacements one to two years of a player being sold. Now thats using data effectively-take note Mr Garlick & Rigg

The players Spijed mentions weren’t the top players in the champ, with the exception of maybe Wood

Think Norwich have gone with the thinking of keep their players and bounce straight back up.
To which I say fair play.
They've had a lot of offers for Pukki and turned them all down.

Could we not have been in for the likes of Sessegnon or Guendouzi on loan?

His fee and wages would make Garlick's eyes water for sure.

Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
Sessegnon wanted over 100k a week and we told him to **** off.
This is the thing that many fans don't get. We bring in someone and pay the, £120k a week. What's our average wage, 70k? So we bring in someone who is on almost twice as much and what happens? We get players annoyed as they earn less.
We get unhappy campers and they want more.

Have to say the thought of a takeover used to terrify me but we're at a point where the next 3 or 4 years could see a big crash without one

Given SD's shocking record with loan signings (Keane and Kightley exceptions) probably not a good idea as SD does not like the loan system.
Although Nathaniel Chalobah did get 66 minutes playing time when on loan from Chelsea.

Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
Don’t think there’s a club in the PL who would seriously consider loaning us a player.... they want them to get time on the grass.
Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
Has there been a more depressing time to be a burnley fan.
Honestly even when we we in the 4th division at least we all knew we were sh*t And we accepted that
This is like we have got a very good squad of players and we are only asking for some investment to keep the best manager we have had in a lifetime and keep the club moving forwards. With a couple of good additions we have a good enough squad to stay in the premier league.
Right now if the injuries carry on threw the season it’s not looking great

Such a myth, you understand wages are worked around with bonuses and flat fees, right?FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 6:17 pmSessegnon wanted over 100k a week and we told him to **** off.

I’m also pretty sure clubs don’t typically pay the full wages of a loan signing and loan fees are more common.

Selling the club. It was supposed to go through on Friday. No idea why it didn't or if it's dead but if we sign anyone it will mean the takeover wont happen.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 6:15 pmWould be good of him to tell supporters his grand plan.

Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
The 'types' he acquired for the squad have kept us in this league for 5 consecutive seasons with good placings in a couple of them. Despite warnings the chairman has literally taken his eye off the ball and now appears clueless as to a plan for one season let alone any longer. The silence is deafening.

So they used to...
But now they won’t.... And I wouldn’t blame them. Am I right in saying SD didn’t bring those two in? I thought it was Eddie.
If Jones came from Utd, I imagine he MIGHT (I wouldn’t bet big money on it tho) get a game right now due to how short we are, but as soon as Ben is fit, he’d be on the bench again. That goes for any player in any position. We could bring in the best right winger in the PL in, but he’d have to wait for an injury to JBG and /or Brownhill to get a look in. SD just doesn’t use that market.

We don't even need new players if Mee is back. Sure it'll help, but we're not desperate - we need depth, sure, but we're not desperate.
Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
The centre back Godfrey has gone to Everton today, which I'm guessing is why they wanted Gibson. But yeah think they've kept everyone else. Was talk of Leeds being in for Cantwell but doesn't look like its happening now.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 6:14 pmThink Norwich have gone with the thinking of keep their players and bounce straight back up.

and if we go down then we will be told we can't afford players from league 2
Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
I'd say Gibson and Wood were regarded as two of the top players in the league when we signed them. Given that it appears we can't even afford to do that now it's hard to know where we go from here, with our refusal to use the European market.
Re: We've got some of the best talent from the Championship
Loftus cheek, Barkley, Sessegnon, Walcott just a few gone out on loan

Still time. £100 million isn't enough for Leeds.
Good manager? He's decent. He needs the backing of £100 million though.
