Worst TV shows of all time
So as chat in the Strictly thread has turned to this, I thought why not have a dedicated thread.
Of course this will no doubt be subjective, but I'm sure you can be inventive in your answers, and they don't have to be British shows anything goes.
I'll start us off with a couple of 70's comedies, and I use the term comedy loosely.
The Benny Hill Show.
The Mike Yarwood Show
And I have to mention Crossroads and Eldorado, who ever commissioned them should have been fired on the spot.

Agreed. Cannot understand the appeal of this show. Really lame and naff. It has the feel of a seventies show, but not one of the good ones like fawlty towers or the good life, more like one of those that hasn’t aged well like mind your language or curry and chips. Baffles me how it is so popular.

The thing that gets me these days is these "reality shows" are actually anything but. They're closely and carefully staged (and even scripted) and full of aspiring actors, models and tv presenters all looking for that big break and yet the gullible public actually think they're watching something "real".Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 9:55 pmMrs Brown's Boys is the Gold standard for abysmal TV but I also agree with you..these programmes just seem to celebrate stupidity to me and I find them depressing to contemplate.

Re: Worst TV shows of all time
Mrs Brown's Boys - voted by Radio Times as one of the best sitcoms of all time.
It's Xmas day special a few years ago had 6.8 million viewers.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-46619935
Personally I quite like it and it always makes me chuckle.
Can't be doing with so called reality shows, or things like X factor etc.
Big Brother & I'm a Celeb weren't bad for the first season or two, now though in my opinion they're tired formats, but again they've got millions of viewers.
Never found Have I Got News For You to be very funny though, can't understand the fascination with that show.

Re: Worst TV shows of all time
I've mentioned this before but the worst all-time TV Show has to be Mini Pops on Channel 4 in the 80's. A paedophile's dream. Little girls and pre-pubescent girls dressed as women, sometimes disturbingly scantily clad; singing and dancing provocatively to songs. God knows what the producers were thinking.
I watch a lot of the 70's and 80's comedies and watching back. Surprised how 'shouty' some of them are. On the Buses and Bless this House are two that spring to mind. A cacophony of noise. Actors shouting over and at each other.
Last of the Summer Wine is one. I actually had it on last night in the background. I'm still yet to laugh at it.
All 'celebrity' shows. I use that word loosely and reality shows, which as mentioned above, is nothing like reality.
Special nod to Mrs Browns Boys and Miranda for being, well; not funny.
One I personally add as much for the disturbing opening/closing credits (very similar to my nightmares as a kid) as the awful acting is 'Tales of the Unexpected'.

This thread should have ended with Mrs Browns boys
It’s absolutely dreadful.
I once decided to watch one episode. I went in open minded but knew that it probably wasn’t for me because I’m not a brexit voting anti vaxer.
It started badly when a doctor came round to give the grandad a rectal thermometer. Predictably it got stuck. I can’t remember the rest of the show but I remember I had guessed the entire course of the episode in the first couple of minutes. The main punch like is it’s a bloke dressed as a women saying things an old women wouldn’t say. Breaking the third wall frequently happened. All that added was the increase rage I was feeling.
I assume O’Carroll hasn’t watched extras which predates Mrs Browns Boys and mocks the type of sh*te Mrs Browns boys serves up.
It’s the worst type of comedy. Although not overly offensive at face value it is extremely offensive to anyone who enjoys actually comedy. It’s a throwback to the 70s but not in a good way like listening to queen.
After watching the one and only episode I could managed I was so angry that someone made that. Even more baffling is that people lap it up. As a social experiment the show has at least shown what happens when you defund the education system. The millions of people who enjoy this show is one of the reasons I would be content by extra-terrestrials blowing up the planet

Another vote for the ‘reality tv’ genre. I don’t watch stuff like Mrs Brown’s Boys but can at least acknowledge there is some talent involved in creating it (even if it doesn’t appeal to me). Reality tv is just a bunch of talentless people in programmes created by people with no imagination.

Another vote for the utter tripe of "Mrs Browns Boys" and any of the reality garbage.
A bit surprised that someone has mentioned "Richard Osmans House of cards!" I find it very good and it tests the brain. Perhaps that is the answer as some people like to test themselves with quiz shows whilst others like to be shown drivel. Each to their own.

Re: Worst TV shows of all time
To illustrate the point about the taste of the British and US public, I give you the example of Chuck Berry ....
Chuck Berry wrote " Johnny B Goode ", " Roll over Beethoven ", " Maybelline ", " Route 66 ", " Carol " and a host of other Rock and Roll Classics, from which generations of young guitarists learnt to play from John Lennon through Keith Richards to Eric Clapton and beyond ....
His only No.1 hit in the US and UK was " My Ding-a-Ling "

Probably so they can avoid having to stage auditions and get away with the prizes being a pair of slipper and a bottle opener as opposed to big money. It’s a pretty low budget affair but something different.Im_not_Robbie_Blake wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 9:26 am'twas I who mentioned Richard Osman's House of Cards. Agree with your point about celebrity versions of quizzes. It takes the tension away completely when celebrities are playing for charity rather than Joe Bloggs with some serious cash on the line.
Agree that Miranda and Mrs Brown’s Boys are terrible. But for me it has to be the reality guff. The Kardashians is appalling in every way. The missus had it on the other day and one of the brain fart’s was whinging about how difficult lockdown was whilst cooped up in her Hollywood Hills mansion. Morons. The low-end British versions such as Cheshire Footballers Wives or whatever it’s called is about as bad as it gets.
Re: Worst TV shows of all time
Miranda and Mrs Browns Boys instantly sprang to mind. Two incredibly unfunny shows.
