Eddie Howe

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Mon Nov 23, 2020 5:28 pm

Gets some stick on here. Very complimentary about us on sky tonight and has said his money is on us tonight.

Praised the job Dyche has done and commented on how hard it is for anyone to come to face Burnley.

Also very complimentary of the fans and how we back our team.

Will never get stick from me... left for reasons anyone should be able to understand and sympathise with...

Also by leaving we got "The Dyche" so say no more 😁

Never had any gripes off me either.
He was upfront about why he left.
He left us in a much better state than when he arrived.
Didn't Charlie's fee save us from administration?

I understand the reason for the thread but don’t expect any contribution from the known Eddie Howe knockers

Liked the bit just there where they asked him about defensive plans...... it’s like asking me about quinoa.

Left us in a better place? We were on the way back to the 3rd division.

Cleared out lots of dead wood and signed the likes of Ings, Trippier, Mee and Shackell to name but a few. Bizarre how a select group on here refuse to give him any credit whatsoever.

Turned us around. A lot of players Burnley fans look back on fondly about were a disgrace behind the scenes before Howe cleared the dossers out .

They were for Eddie. Ings scored 2 in 46, trippier defensively was a liability. It took a very good manager to turn them into very good players. Under an average manager, they were average players.

He did ok with us but in reality we weren’t really going anywhere and we’re much better for his departure.

Spoke very well about us tonight though which was nice to hear.

Brought some brilliant players to our club and can’t think of anything he has ever said about Burnley that isn’t positive.
He was a young manager still learning to find the balance between defence and attack - and he’s struggled with that ever since but he did really well at Bournemouth for many years.
Knows his football and think he would be a good pundit on sky until he gets back to management as he is articulate and positive - there’s only so much of the controversial ones like Roy Keane anyone can take.
Spoke really well about Jay tonight - and he was the only one on the panel who remembered just how good Jay was before he got that terrible injury at Man City.
Pocchetino was ready to pay big money to bring him to Spurs from Southampton - they were talking £20m plus. And he had just played for England - can’t remember who was manager but they played Jay ridiculously out of position to accommodate Rooney I think

I liked Eddie as a manager except for his defensive tactics, he didn't seem to have any, but he left us some good players and Sean sorted the defense.

jrgbfc is far more defensive over a manager who was taking us nowhere than positive about our current manager who has delivered unbelievable success. Strange way of thinking that's for sure.

I, and probably a few more of us, realised we were going nowhere under Howe after the debacle away at Palace in the 12/13 season.

We were 2-0 up just before HT, and had a corner, but stupidly left Trippier alone on the half way line with Zaha. Palace broke quickly and scored to make it 2-1. As you would expect, they came out second half with their tails up, scored again quickly, and we ended up losing 4-3. It was criminal.

If that was Dyche in charge, the absolute priority would’ve been to preserve the lead and go in without Palace scoring. And had it been Dyche in charge that day, we would’ve won.

Under Howe, it was just baffling. We weren’t savvy. We didn’t know how to see a game out, or ride out the tough periods like we do now so we’ll. There was just no backbone.

Edit- I hasten to add I have no gripes with him at all, and it was definitely the best for all parties that he moved on. I wish him well.

The 3-2 defeat at home to Leeds probably best encapsulates Howe’s time at Burnley. And Brian Easton’s for that matter.

A very forward thinking young manager at the time........made lots of mistakes but we were a better club in signing him......I think it was Huddersfield away where we started “playing it from the back”........Duff and co hadn’t got a clue how to do it and the day was a mare.........now all teams do it.

Three points above the bottom three, 22 goals conceded in 10 games. Some shambolic performances that season. I think there is a lot of evidence to suggest that at best we'd have just about survived.

Yet he following Burnley went up. And the players he signed for Burnley also went up. Everyone won.

His three promotions with a championship title and just one relegation are on a par with the man in charge here now.

There’s zero evidence we would’ve gone down.

Thoroughly decent and knowledgeable manager. I can imagine players like playing for him. His management record at Bournemouth was outstanding

Can see him again in the PL. Its great news for us. as if a vacancy comes up in the PL he is more likely to get it than SD who is contracted

I’ve spoken to both Howe and Dyche a couple of times each in group settings at events, and I found Howe to be far more pleasant and friendly. Dyche was simply very sarcastic and can’t deal with any form of questioning.

Who knows what they’re like to work for, but I know who I’d rather have a chat to.

That was one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a Burnley team. It was hands over eyes for 95 minutes watching us lose the ball at the back time after time. I think Rhodes got a couple for them and we were lucky to get nil !
