Very sad. But in a strange way a good innings considering.
Rivalries aside an icon of the game. Supremely talented and an incredible character.
Most geniuses have their flaws and demons. But outside of that seems he had a good heart.

Re: Maradona
Top, top player. He was outstanding with Napoli and, dare say that, he carried them to 2 Scudettos as Serie A Champions at a time when Italian football had the biggest football stars in the world playing there. Napoli also won the EUFA Cup with Maradonna.
There's a clip on Youtube showing Maradonna loosening up just before kick off in an EUFA cup tie in Germany, I think at Bayern Munich. The clip shows him juggling the ball between feet, head, and shoulders, for a good few minutes. He was playing to the camera but he did receive a lot of applause and appreciation from the German crowd when finished his juggling.

Watched a documentary on him recently and really appreciated how great he was and also how easy it would be to fall in the sort of crowds he did, extremely easy.

Re: Maradona
80s English fans thought they were well hard running about in their Sergio Tacchini jackets hitting one other with weapons. Then along came a fat little Argentinian punching a football and they’ve all been rattled for 30+ years.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 5:19 pmAn absolute genius. I think most people will blame him for punching it past Shilton... he cheated. But should he have got there first? I think not as you probably do... but let’s not turn this onto Shilton. Diego was a cheat. But only cos he didn’t get caught, and only because the game meant so much, especially so soon after the liberation of the Falkland islanders.
It’s always a shame when a true world great leaves us. RIP.

Re: Maradona
It's a great documentary that one isn't it, about his time in Naples. To do what he did on the pitches back then, when defenders could be as brutal as they wanted to be, and playing for a mediocre Argentina and a previously unsuccessful Napoli is what set him apart.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 5:23 pmWatched a documentary on him recently and really appreciated how great he was and also how easy it would be to fall in the sort of crowds he did, extremely easy.

Re: Maradona
Cheating is most certainly NOT genius. It merely fills the void left by a lack of it....cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 5:25 pm
Shilton will have had at least an 8 foot reach. Before jumping. And not even considering his significant weight advantage.
It was cheating but another example of his incredible genius.

Re: Maradona
In Napoli and Argentina, made two ordinary teams extraordinary. Elevated those two teams to greatness in way only he could and in Argentina’s case almost did it twice.
A truly legendary footballer, thanks for the memories good and bad.
