I get all of those reasons but I think many of them are probably quite naive given what the game is like these days. Taking players from foreign leagues as an example, I reckon 99% would jump at the chance of signing for any club that plays in the biggest and most exposed league in world football - even if it’s just to put themselves further in the shop window so the ‘top 6’ then take notice of them.Leisure wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 8:12 pmSmall Northern town, small club (capacity wise), not the highest wages, quite often favourites for relegation, outsiders view of us possibly being a racist area/club, lack of recognition by the press and TV, the view held by many (including some of our fans) that it'll be the end of Burnley if/when the manager leaves, etc. But of course I could be (and hope that I am) wrong.
My original point of competing with those clubs financially meant if they were offering a player £70k a week then we could too and it was up to our recruitment team and manager to persuade the player to sign for us and live in luxury in Cheshire like the ‘superstars’ who play for Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool. It’s not like they need to rent accommodation in East Lancashire...
