A TOUCH OF CLASS FROM BIG CHRIS WOOD

Post by AotearoaClaret » Sun Dec 06, 2020 10:54 pm

Hi all,

I'm not one to start threads on here, but after the phone call I received yesterday, I thought it fitting that this should be shared amongst Clarets near and far.

Was out fishing yesterday off Auckland, and received a phone call from an unknown number, a certain Julie Wood, who is the big mans mum. She is currently back in New Zealand with Chris' Dad, for family reasons, but had taken the time to ring to say that Chris had seen that we had a New Zealand Clarets Supporters Club, and that he wanted to know if he could help or support us in any way moving forward.

Considering that this should be way down his and their list of priorities, I thought that it was an absolute touch of class and gesture from the family, lead by Chris, considering that they (his parents) had just come out of enforced isolation and absolutely no doubt that they had more pressing concerns on their plate.

I know that people see these kinds of gestures from footballers all the time, but quite often they are captured/ filmed for social media purposes (no problem with that whatsoever) but it is testament that our big striker did this with a quiet humility with no intention of anyone knowing. Just a genuine attempt to help a group of lads in his home country, who happen to support the team that he is playing for.

Despite the majority of our members hailing from East Lancashire, we are all very proud of Chris and how he represents our new adopted home, whilst wearing the badge that we all love so much.

Nice One Big Man

All at NZ Clarets

Great story thanks for sharing.

See him around Alderley Edge. Is a decent fella who will have a chat on Burnley and footy. As are all of them knocking about around here. Westy, Cork, Pope, Barnes Dave Jones and Vokesey. Westy especially enthusiastic about the Clarets.

Past and present the names above obviously.

UTC.

Great little story.

Footballers often hit the headlines for the wrong reasons but the vast majority are genuine and nice people.

Chris is a credit to our club on and off the pitch.

:-D

Phonetically - Ow-o-teya-rowa (or close enough)

I'm by no means a Te Reo (Maori) speaker - but that's the Maori word for New Zealand! Not sure how its sounds with my Lancashire twang to the natives though - but I try!

Yes we are Fretters - Tony Scholes has kindly invited us onto the Burnley Fc Supporters Group, and as a gesture, we are hoping to donate some of the money raised in our raffle in January to the food banks back home in the town. So every little helps - but what a draw that is getting the support of one of our top players!

Itโ€™s brilliant having another group of supporters getting together as they have in New Zealand and I know how much they enjoyed their first meeting last March.

For Chris Wood to get involved like this is a bit special but it says so much about how good the lads are in our squad.

Top class from Chris Wood, it seems it is something that runs through most of our squad.
Very humble and genuinely good men, that are more than happy to stop for a chat, or do something a little extra for fans.

Long may it continue!

That's a battle jdrobbo but who's the winner? - NZ Clarets get Chris Wood's mum on the phone, your West Yorkshire Clarets get Roger Eli visiting you in the pub.

Iโ€™m really not following it either Durham. The fact that they logged on to the board to correct (?) that, despite the original post and itโ€™s content probably says more about them as posters than it does about me. And shows why I donโ€™t ever start threads on here.

Apologies if Iโ€™m missing something really obvious though!

Nice one pal- you sound like fun!

Wonder how I become more like you?..... log into the messagebord and have a joke with a guy I probably donโ€™t know, behind a computer screen. Completely missing the point of a post, not offering anything to the thread and then telling the person who posted some half decent news, (that a lot of people have clearly appreciated) that he needs to get a sense of humour. Brilliant story and far better then the usual fishing threads we get on here.๐Ÿ˜ He always comes across as a well grounded individual on the tele.
As an aside did you catch anything.
There were 3 clarets out (amongst others) fishing off the mussel farms between Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula. Not the best day, but here were our totals;

1st Claret - 7 Snapper (limit) and a couple of Kahawai for smoking
2nd Claret - 1 Snapper
3rd Claret - went hungry.

Luckily our pal from Padiham is sound as a pound and split his catch with us. So fresh fish and chips Sunday night for tea, then a fish Ruby last night in my house.

Sound Durham - tell him to get in touch via all of the usual methods - his name does ring a bell though and I'm sure you will keep him up to date via news on here!

Great story that AotearoaClaret. Chris is also with a girl from Liverpool... and he has a second cousin who lives in Liverpool, who just so happens to go out with a Burnley fan

Great story. Have you guys managed to meet up at all for any games this season given the relative lack of restrictions over there? Would be possibly the biggest collection of clarets in one place on the planet at the moment if so!
