Your favourite snack with beer.
Your favourite snack with beer.
For me it has to be quality pork scratchings. Salty, crunchy, tasty and if you have dodgy teeth just suck them until they dissolve. Goes with all beers none of this fancy wine and food matching fading around.
Re: Your favourite snack with beer.
Onion Rings (proper ones, deep fried with good old fashioned batter)

Gotta be crisps. Crisps and a pint.

Our local on a Tuesday evening always comes out with a plate of slices of "Drake and Masefield" pork pie with some mustard on the side if wanted .... very tasty.

I can't believe no one's said plain crisps, nothing else compliments a pint.

Salted peanuts will do for me but one of my old haunts did the most wonderful beef & horseradish rolls. I could eat one per pint.

Re: Your favourite snack with beer.
Yeah, pork scratchings are tough to beat. Every now and then I make pulled pork with a shoulder of pork, and the crackling left over from that is a great snack later in the evening with a beer or glass (bottle) of wine.

It's no help at all. I want places that do exist!
Re: Your favourite snack with beer.
20 b&h (my guilty pleasure when on a night out) pork scratchings, salted crisps or dry roasted. Hopefully followed by a good curry with spicy popadoms, at the end of the night.

Re: Your favourite snack with beer.
I go to a bar in Fuengirola which serves lovely ice cold beer with a wide range of pinchos, which are thinly cut warm baguette bread slices with a variety of toppings:my favorites are hot fried quails eggs with bacon, hot pork slices with green peppers, and smoked salmon with egg mayonnaise with fish roe. Absolutely delicious. The beer is good too.
Re: Your favourite snack with beer.
Loads of boozers used have butties behind the bar of a weekend. Joan in the General Williams made a cracking cheese and onion teacake.

Re: Your favourite snack with beer.
Not enough boozers do that. It's so simple. All you need to do is make sure the bread is fresh.
Ham salad with mustard is my favourite. Great with a pint.

Re: Your favourite snack with beer.
The General Williams was my local when I lived in England. I know Joan well, and knew her husband Mick who died a few years back. You're right she did make a cracking cheese and onion tea cake, I'd forgotten about those.
Re: Your favourite snack with beer.
Was a cracking boozer, I've not been in for 10 years mind. Aye, great guy was Mick, real shame when he died. Joan is lovely too, fantastic landlady too.Vino blanco wrote: โSun Dec 13, 2020 1:26 pmThe General Williams was my local when I lived in England.
