Perhaps he’d have been ok if they’d lost 5 - 0

Worries me this news. One thing Sam is good at is making teams hard to beat.

Seems a strange one, West Brom were definitely showing signs of coming to a bit, even before the draw.

While Sam has a reputation for keeping teams up... it is a very different game than the one he left in disgrace...
It is a fair old gamble so soon, just as Brom were looking to be getting it together.

That said, so is Pulis and look where he is now - bottom of the championship. So there is always a first!

WBA board clearly hoping to get a going over tonight. The sacking isn’t going to look too classy after a very respectable result.

You may well be right Steve, but I hope SD and the players don't have that attitude, we're showing enough in our last 5 games to suggest we can survive, but you could equally state the same about Fulham & West Brom, it's nip and tuck down there.
I can only assume this decision had already been made prior to tonight's match, otherwise it's a strange one at first glance.

Ah, didn’t know that. A sacking would have looked a bit better after a 5-0 defeat though.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 11:32 pmIt’s not to do with results though, they’ve had fall outs this season because they haven’t backed him since promotion.

It sounded like a done deal with Allardyce last night so I am surprised to see you can still back him this morning and also get 6/4 on him.
I expected it to be a suspended market or long odds on

A little off topic but did anyone else see Charlie Austin come on for WBA as a sub? He looked unable to run at all, maybe he has no knee after all?
Re: First Premier League manager sacking on the way
I feel sorry for any Manager that has to read in the press or social media that he's about to be sacked, especially if they're reading it days before it takes place.

It's a poor do when a club sacks its manager who got them promoted.
Re: First Premier League manager sacking on the way
Would not surprise me if the contract had been signed before last night's match but that BFS did not want to be involved in the game in case they got a tanking
But, he will make them hard to beat and will have a hefty warchest in Jan for signings

That Allardyce has no qualms about taking his fellow managers jobs,he really is lower than a snakes belly, like someone said I bet his contract to manage the baggies was signed and sealed before last night's game, wouldn't want that prick within a million miles of managing our club

It is but maybe said manager shouldn't have publicly gone to war against the owners regarding his budget. Now, that sounds familiar.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 10:44 amIt's a poor do when a club sacks its manager who got them promoted.

I am so glad we saw the very best of Charlie Austin, putting the ball in the net was almost expected every game. His link play with Trippier was exceptional at times.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 10:09 amA little off topic but did anyone else see Charlie Austin come on for WBA as a sub? Re: First Premier League manager sacking on the way
Risky move, obviously making the change now to give the new manager time to assess the squad before the window opens. Relegation will catch up with BFS at some point...let's hope it's this season.

Regarding Sam, the unemployment rate will drop once he's assembled his coaching staff. He rarely does things by half and was ahead of his time for years. Odious as he may be to some, he knows his way around the football scene.

Re: First Premier League manager sacking on the way
I could not believe the clamour on this board for us to sign Charlie back in the summer of 2019 at the time he'd gone to West Brom. He'd started only 34 games for Southampton in three and a half years and made a further 37 sub appearances. The goals have dried up too. He's scored 26 league goals in the last five years and nine of those have been penalties.
His goalscoring at Burnley was outstanding, even better for QPR, but for someone just a few days older than Jay Rod he looks knackered now. What I've never been able to work out though was that we got better results in his two years at Burnley when he was out of the team than when he was in the team, suggesting we played to him too much.
Re: First Premier League manager sacking on the way
Not on long last night but way off the pace.
Sad to see his decline but to be honest the rumour was he wasn't such a great bloke around the club and his behaviour in some of his games against us for QPR left a taste too.

Aye, The Telegraph is reporting he's now been sacked & that BFS has been "lined up". Contract to the end of the season with an extra year IF he keeps them up.

I really hope West Brom go down now. They are hardly cut adrift from the rest of the league like Sheffield Utd are becoming. What did the owners expect was going to happen, it's flipping barmy.

Re: First Premier League manager sacking on the way
I knew he'd kicked off when they sold Hegazi behind his back and now I've ready he wasn't happy for spending the money available on Diangana who I assume he didn't value quite so highly.
The Athletic reporting that the decision to sack him was made last weekend but they couldn't get the replacement in for last night because of COVID protocols.
