Realistic ambitions under ALK
So all being well we'll be under new management in 2021 (in the boardroom anyway) what are your expectations?, I'd settle for a comfortable top 10 place every season, and having a real crack at both the cups, that's the only criticism of Sean Dyche's rein, we haven't ever really threatened a decent cup run, and we're long overdue one, now if we could assemble a squad that would give us a much better shot at surviving easier, then we could have a bash at trying to lift some major silverware.
In a really good season we might even have a chance of pushing for a European spot again, but this time in the event of qualifying for say the EL we should be bettered placed to actually make at least the group stages.
I don't think either of those are out of the question with sensible investment and good management.

Re: Realistic ambitions under Alk
Long term PL stability, proper efforts in the domestic cups, with an eye on regular European qualification.
The Academy needs to continue to be supported and improving the quality of players it produces.
To see us fully utilise the foreign player market.

To not go bust betting the Ranch.
To improve squad realistically without betting the Ranch.
Give SD more backing.

Re: Realistic ambitions under Alk
Restore the relationship with SD in the hope that he wants to remain the manager for at least the medium term
Start succession planning for when he does leave
Enable us to be competitive in the transfer market with clubs of a similar PL stature
Make us a more attractive proposition for incoming players
Raise the international profile of the club
Improve the overall quality of the squad so that introducing players from the Academy is a a planned choice rather than a last resort
Keep us in the PL for s long as possible

Pretty similar to the current situation. First and foremost not get relegated and the occasional season where we do it comfortably and aim for Europe.

Survival and a cup run every season should be a realistic ambition now. But whether Dyche would believe it is, well we’ll have to wait and see.

Improve PR. Shouldn’t be too difficult.
Improve commercial appeal.
Improve international brand awareness.
Improve recruitment / overseas scouting
On the pitch :
Keep in PL first and foremost.
Give the manager the basics to do the job ie not a bench of untried kids. This was not provided by Garlick this season in my opinion.
Another shot at Europe or a cup.

Re: Realistic ambitions under Alk
I was going to start a thread on the same subject and my thoughts are very much along the lines of the OP.
Better quality in key areas to improve the playing style; regular, comfortable top 10-12 finish, pushing towards top 8/Europe; serious crack at the cups.
I don't think we're a million miles away from that now after the last three seasons but it's clear that we couldn't sustain it under the current regime.

Re: Realistic ambitions under Alk
I suppose all of this will increase supporters expectations to a point where some will become disappointed and we will have the usual arguments about SDs abilities, etc. Most have appreciated the incredible job he has done and have backed him regardless of some poor results. Fortunately the current owners have also taken this view, even when relegated.
Just hope that the new owners are as patient and do not have unrealistic expectations for the money they are prepared to invest.

For ALK to do a deal with the Venkys and come to some arrangement whereby Blackburn become our feeder club.

Re: Realistic ambitions under Alk
On the pitch:
1. Continue to remain in the Premier League- hopefully get ourselves into a position where we are regularly challenging for the top ten, if not European Competition places.
2. Cup runs
3. Continue to develop the youth set up so it not only pays for itself (via sales of players to lower league teams) but it provides a regular (1-2 players per season) for the first team squad too.
4. Be a club that continues to improve players, and is thereby an attractive option for them to move to. (Ties into developing the youth set up)
5. Develop the scouting network
Off the pitch:
1. Improve communication between club and fans
2. Improve the marketing / branding / sponsorship etc of the club
3. Develop the corporate facilities- they’re woefully behind where they should be
4. Ground improvements- not necessarily things like replacing the Cricket Field Stand but catering, toilets, etc
5. Buy the cricket club- that land could be used to really improve the match day experience with bars, food outlets, big screens etc and not have the current fan zone being so overcrowded
6. Improve the quality and quantity of the club’s merchandising
7. “Free gifts” to the fans (see Leicester City for ideas)
8. Free shirts etc for primary school kids- make a real push into getting fans at a young age.
9. Documentary series; use as a marketing tool, try to make us people’s “second team” etc
That’s just off the top of my head....

My head wants top 6 finishes,
My heart says we will sack SD ,
Get relegated, be in league 1 by 2023.
Then walking round the turf with buckets trying to save the club.

whether we can rebuild the squad and move beyond just staying up.
Presumably with the aim of progressing up the table by playing more
than what we currently do which is relatively one-dimensional
based on not conceding and hoping to grab one in the few attacks/chances we create.
The further up the table we can finish means an extra 10-20m in prize funds.
Can it be a evolutionary progression?
Over a season or three? We do have a large number of players coming to the end of contracts
and/or getting beyond their late twenties/early thirties.
So we may need at least one or two in January and possibly 3 or 4 in the summer
depending on who and how many we may lose.
Can Dyche be able to work with Paces data+ based systems if they come up players
Dyche doesn't know anything about?
Hopefully yes - but time will tell.

I think, realistically, to become one of the ever present top 15 teams, like Everton - good enough to compete and maintain our place at the top table...
...and to avoid at all costs being rebranded as the Burnley Buccaneer's or some other horrible Americanised name.
Edit: Actually we'd probably be the Burnley Bee's.

Basically as is but with more investment in the transfer window.
A club our size shouldn't expect to be top 10 annually. Unless ALK turn out to be owned by a Sheikh.

On the pitch
To remain in the Premier League. Survival is priority.
To restore the fractured relationship between Garlick and Dyche.
To conduct a thorough audit of the playing squad (hopefully ALK have done this?) so that at the beginning of the transfer window, the board know the positions which have to be filled, and they fill them (the key bit).
To not 'bet the ranch' (Barry Kilby) and keep our club financially stable - edit: off the pitch aim.
Off the pitch
To improve upon our existing communications with our fan base
To continue to build upon the work which has been done with the football club in the community, especially for when we come out of the pandemic.

Re: Realistic ambitions under ALK
Enable Sean to improve the quality of our football by supporting the squad with greater depth and technical quality.
Whilst still operating with a relatively small squad in comparative terms I’d like us to be the team of choice for young players who will get game time & a shop window knowing we won’t stand in the way of eventual progression thus fuelling the financial model.

In the next month - just sign a right-footed winger, with pace who can put the ball on Woody's head. That would correct a ridiculous error last Summer.

Re: Realistic ambitions under ALK
If I were ALK directors, I would want to take the grounds capacity from 21,000 to 50,000. That would mean a new stadium on the outskirts of town with excellent road and motorway access. I don't need to hear your disagreements, I have heard them so many times before!
I hope they keep Sean and for as long as possible.
I hope ticket prices remain affordable for the majority. Without increasing the ground capacity this is the only way to increase the Club's turnover.
I'm only expecting 1 or 2 new players in the winter window and we still may lose one of our key players. Think many of you have unrealistically high expectations.
Talk of top 6 is unrealistic. Regular mid-table finishes and remaining in the PL is a huge achievement.
I'm not sure a change of ownership will bring much. Continued financial stability is probably as good as it gets.

Re: Realistic ambitions under ALK
Good to see a reasonable level of realism on here. Staying as we are with a development of the commercial side and possibly a bit more nous in the transfer market.
No guarantees of course, way bigger clubs with massively bigger budgets have already been relegated while we’ve been here. We’ll still have to be very clever in how we work.
Not sure about the 50,000 seats though, can’t see the benefit of 29,000 empty ones in any business model.

Re: Realistic ambitions under ALK
Surely we can aim for a bit more than finishing 17th every year, which seems to be what some people are suggesting?
I don't think being a solid mid table side, whilst having a good go at the cups and gradually bringing the age of our squad down is unrealistic.
