Seem to recall that Burnley band Chimp Eats Banana did a daft version of the theme tune. Would love to hear it again if anyone knows of a link.

....was some of my earliest TV memories. Steve Zodiac was it?
Also Mike Mercury (Supercar)
'Four Feather Falls' was another.
Wasn't aware until it was pointed out,
I'm sure on this messageboard, that Nicholas Parsons was the voice of Tex Tucker.

It was brilliant and started a life long interest in sci fi and astronomy for me.
Does anyone remember the Matt Mason toy spaceman? The best Christmas present ever.

Madness ‘B’ side for The Sun and the Rain paid homage to Fireball XL5.... and was every bit as good as the flip and was indeed visually referenced in the Sun and the Rain video.

Yep! Not sure about the Leeds connection (University?) but Danbert Nobacon certainly went onto form Chumba Wumba

Sacriledge!!!!!!!
For those of us of a certain age it was fantastic.
Sure, watch it now as a cynical adult and it will look poor but it was a part of my childhood I will never forget.

Re: Fireball XL5
Thunderbirds was easily the best of all.
I and my two brothers asked our mum to have two more boys so that we'd have all five Tracy brothers when we played at it.
For some reason, though, she wasn't too keen.

Re: Fireball XL5
I had a Thunderbird 1 and my mate Simon had Thunderbird 2 with pod 4 containing a Thunderbird 4
I also had a Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle SPV with firing rocket on the front and the drop down catterpiller tracks at the back and a mini Captain Scarlet in the pop out door...
All of these went to my brothers lad in the 70's and he had UFO toys etc and also Moonbase alpha stuff from Space 1999

Who can remember Torchy the Battery Boy..
Re: Fireball XL5
Let's not forget the other classic puppet shows.
A Rubovia Legend
Pinky and Perky
Bill and Ben
The Woodentops
Torchie
Twizzle
And as good as they were they couldn't compete with the elaborate production of Noggin the Nog and Captain Pugwash.

Re: Fireball XL5
Pugwash was excellent, but of course more comic-strip than 3D puppetry and very different from such as Stingray, XL5 or Thunderbirds.
And btw the real Pugwash on whom the programme was based was an old mate of mine.

There was no-one by that name, Yosser. It was just a made-up allegation.
In any case, I didn't appear on the programme: I would just have frightened the kids.
