I’d be surprised if they’ve sacked him. Who else would they get in, Eddie Howe?

They’d be in even more of a relegation fight if they did.

I can't see Ashley sacking Bruce it would be expensive and pointless. Bruce will keep Newcastle up and that's all Ashley wants is to stay in the Premier league

I believe it’s the case. Strange sacking. Even more strange than the appointment. He’s not done too bad.

Howe would be an excellent shout. But it just seems cursed that club.

Ridiculous if true. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole if I was Howe. The only possible reason would be a desire for a different style of play. But they haven't really got the players for it. They'd get ripped to pieces.

If he’s gone there’s money to be made. You can still get 8/1 on him being the next Premier League manager to go.

Maybe he wants discount at Sportsdirect. Fantastic opportunity for the man who can walk on water.... anyone else will not be good enough to be given time to fix it.

Ah! that's their next game is it, well if he can't get a result against the whipping boys he really will be lucky to survive, it's not just the results it's the style of football they're playing that is making the Magpies fans unhappy, yes I know we play a similar style, but we haven't got 2 strikers worth a combined £60m, this is what is frustrating the Newcastle fans, even against some of the smaller sides Bruce adopts a defensive approach, you can understand it to some extent playing City & Liverpool, but not against Leicester as good as Leicester can be on the break, you have to have a go at home surely. 5 PL games without a win now, and dumped out of the EFL Cup by Brentford, if he doesn't turn it around soon the sack awaits I'm afraid.

I wonder about SD though. His stock is as high as its ever going to get right now. What if ALK gives him money and he doesn’t spend it well? What if ALK want to push academy players too early and he doesn’t want it? Right now he’s in a good position, he could take his bonus, have time with his family, and sit and wait for the perfect opportunity.

I think the geordies really took to Rafa so he was always going to be a hard act to follow & bruces Sunderland connections I don’t think are endearing, being the biggest club in the northeast (my opinion) skirting with relegation season after season is underwhelming for them, really they should be trying to break into the top 4 a top 6/8 side somewhere around Everton, I know football doesn’t work out that way but that’s how some of their fans will view things.

I disagree re SD Charlie. I think with no takeover he was already getting his bags packed and waiting for the right opportunity to walk, probably in the summer, as he believed he'd gone as far as he could with us, but I imagine he's feeling rejuvenated and somewhat excited at the prospect of having a little bit of a cash injection to spend and to see if he can evolve the squad. His potential for job satisfaction will have improved no end and I don't think he'll be looking at any other jobs for a while.

TBH, I'm not sure that he could take us a lot further even with a bit of a budget.
He's been remarkable with the money he's had, no doubt about that, but "the next level" is another matter.

I think the reality of the situation is that there are a limited number of clubs that would employ Sean. The big six will always want to attract managers with champions league experience and have a track record of working at big clubs.

Sean is just not in that league unfortunately at this stage of his career or has the CV that other managers would likely to be attracted to a big 6 vacancy.

I am not saying he isn't capable of doing a good job there but without any connection to those clubs or a pedigree that seems to be important for these roles I think Sean with the takeover plans has nothing to lose by staying put to see whether words and actions align. He knows full well that the grass isn't always greener. Likewise the thing that was likely pushing him away will lessen now given the change in ownership.

Benitez is a top manager. His record speaks for itself. Very astute tactically as we found out to our cost a few seasons back.

I love how Benitez gets labelled as "astute" but Bruce as "negative" and out of his depth. Just another example of people being blinded by a foreign coach with a more exotic feel. The reality is that Rafa's football was every bit as dull as that Bruce has produced and the results haven't been much different.

If Sean did ever leave I’d give a gold clock for having Rafa as a replacement I rate him that highly.

The big 6 want managers with CL experience?

Arsenal - Arteta
Utd - Ole
Spurs - Jose but prior to that Poch
Chelsea - Lampard
City - Pep
Liverpool - Klopp but Rodgers before that.

Out of all those managers only 3 had previous CL experience before taking over..... Sort of blows that out of the water tbh.

Yes, absolutely. Capable of something between 7th and 15th , we are, or have been. at that level. IMO we still could be, we've had remarkably bad luck with injuries.
Breaking into the top 6 or sustaining a position which would see us regularly in the Europa League would be the so-called "next level" for me. This would mean attracting, buying, and paying better players than we have now. would SD be seen as the man to do that? Not sure.

Arsenal, Man u. and Chelsea have inexperienced managers at CL level.

All those managers - even Rogers have had previous CL experience in management or as a player.
Not sure Poch did actually but Spurs were not a top 6 side when he arrived.
I do agree though that it’s not necessarily a prerequisite of what the top 6 clubs are looking for in every manager they appoint....but would think that some experience of European competitions would be on their desirable list

Doesn’t matter, it’s obvious why the 3 you’ve mentioned have been lucky enough to manage them clubs without previous experience, if arteta & ole & lampard had played for Rotherham, Crawley or Swindon most of their careers the opportunities afforded wouldn’t have happened, it was probably agreed whilst playing coming towards retirement some sort of future management was on the horizon for them. Sean dyche has never played for a top club so he wouldn’t be granted that opportunity without serious cause.

Rodgers had zero European football experience as either player or manager.

2009 was was the last time Spurs finished outside the top 6 and Poch had played 32 games in European Cup competition.

All those people stating the top 6 clubs will only want managers with European experience aren't correct, as proven.

Lampard didn't even have that good a season with Derby yet walked into Chelsea, only because of their transfer ban though.

Rodgers never played for a top club though.

Neither did Wenger, or Jose.
Not sure Fergie did tbh
