New Year’s (Keto) Diet
New Year’s (Keto) Diet
The diet starts tomorrow. The fact that I’ve waited for a Monday and not actually started on the 1st probably tells it’s own story.
This will be a loooooong slog!

I dropped over 2st doing Keto together with intermittent fasting.
Calorie defecit is what drops the weight but removing carbs and eating 2 larger meals a day really helped me.

Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
I started a week ago, in all honesty I train and eat well so stopping the beer is all I needed to do but I’m mainly doing it to help the Mrs lose 2st after having children.
I’m now struggling to get anywhere near 1500 calories, 3 meals today and only 1200 calories so may have to change things come the end of the month as I only really want to lose 8lb tops. I’ve a very addictive personality and competitive nature so I need to make sure I don’t go daft.
Best of luck to you mate

I lost weight on it but it wasn’t sustainable for me. I’m currently 5 stone lighter on SlimmingWorld. Bit the bullet and joined a group. It’s a good laugh and I find it easier with other people. Really nice food as well.

Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
I lost 4 stones last year. Have been 11st 6lbs for 3 months now.
My self created diet involved:
(a) know exactly how many calories each item is, including a beer or glass of wine.
(b) eat anything....if you want cake, eat a smaller amount of cake.
(c) I aimed for 1,000 calories per day. Maybe 1,500 might have been better? Anything less than 2,000 should drive your weight down.
(d) Lockdown allowed me to walk 2 or 3 times a day. That was the only exercise.
(e) compare calorific values on products before buying. At Christmas, I found some mince pies were 250 calories, others 200. Amazing how much a slice of bread can vary. Low calorie yogurts are a good replacement to ice cream.
(f) record everything you eat each day. Be honest....the only person you are lying to is yourself. If you eat too much one day, record that and at least you will know why you have not lost weight.
(g) I used a free app WEIGHT DIARY LITE on my mobile to track my weight loss. Lots of other apps available.
Finally, before you start, you have to ask yourself “Do I really want to do this?” If the answer is no, then you will fail. If yes, then recognise that it will require determination but it will be so worth while. As each stones comes off, you will feel so much better.
Good luck to everyone. You can do this!

Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
The keto diet is the best. I lost 2st last year over the course of 5 weeks or so while doing intermittent fasting. I am back doing both again today. I eat in a 4 hour window between 1pm and 5pm and that's it. The rest of the day is just water. Stick to it properly and you'll see results quickly. Keep active too.
Ps. There's a guy on YouTube I follow called Thomas de lauer or something like that and he is a great source of knowledge and information.
Good luck mate

My Mrs did slimming world about 4 years ago and the teas were fantastic. I do the cooking these days as she’s busy with the children, I just cook veg, salads & meats and we will have homemade smoothies and yoghurt. If we want a takeaway at weekend you just knock 100 calories off a day and have pizza on a Saturday. It’s actually quite good fun

Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
I guess people lose weight in different ways. Some prefer diets, some prefer counting calories, some prefer a set points-based system which I think Slimming World do. Some prefer to exercise a lot more. I went from 14 and a half stone to 12 stones 10 last year over around 6 weeks. No diet, no calorie counting, just more exercise and common sense.
Once I would take away alcohol, crisps, chocolate, kebabs, pizzas etc, and just used common sense as to what to eat and when it was very simple. I guess I'm just not a fan of diets. They are meant to be temporary, yet I know people who have been on them for 20 years, with a tag line that should be tattooed on their foreheads... "I'm starting again on Monday".

Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
I've been on a Keto style diet for years. When I was a dancer it helped keep my body in shape. You don't need to subscribe to the Keto brand or buy their meals, I did Keto before Keto was invented. It works by eating high fat low carb/sugar diet. Fats do not make you fat, it's sugar, and carbs which turn to sugar in the liver. Also avoid artificial sweeteners, so anything advertised as sugar free, read the label, make sure that the sugar has not been replaced by artificial sweateners. Avoid low fat products. Look on line, get a list of low cargo foods. On you tube look up Becky Gillespie, watch her videos, it will help and its free

Eat and exercise in moderation and you won’t need to diet. Same with drinking and clean January’s. Just don’t binge in the first place. If you have to duet best to calorie count but eat what you like. As FF says above common sense is the best approach.

I dare say the people it applies to already know, but it's a dangerous diet for people who have had problems with liver, pancreas or gall bladder. They're the organs that deal with fat and I presume they could get overloaded if they aren't in full working order (or in the case of a gall bladder, if you don't have one).

Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
I don't know whether it qualifies as keto, but I have been eating 16 / 8 since March and quickly lost 22 or 23 lbs. I have kept it off, no problem, but I would argue it is essential to do resistance training when losing weight, or you end up scrawny. I wasn't obese, by any stretch of the imagination and am now in the best shape I've been in for 20-plus years. I am 66.
Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
Yes absolutely, it's a diet, not THE DIET, if it is safe for you, then it will help, not only to maintain the body shape, but help prevent allsorts of health problems. Somebody mentioned intermittent fasting, which is another vital component, its simply not eating for at least 12 continuous hours a day. I choose 9pm to 9 am.dsr wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 12:09 pmI dare say the people it applies to already know, but it's a dangerous diet for people who have had problems with liver, pancreas or gall bladder. Also regards to excersise, if you are changing to this diet you will experience an energy drain for the first 2 weeks or so. Therefore I would avoid excersise for this period, until the body can adjust Sugar addiction is very common and withdrawal symptoms such as feeling weak etc are part of it. Stick it out and it will pass

A lot of sports people are on keto style diets. The great thing about it is that the body adjusts itself, and maintains the shape. It's a diet for life. Just to reiterate, you don't have to use keto products, all low carb, no sugar diets work with intermittent fastingUntinted Glasses wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 12:32 pmJust in case you didn’t know, Tyson fury lost over 10 stone on the keto. One other bit of advice, if you like potatoes, and want to eat them with this diet, boil them, allow them to cool and eat them the next day, you can reheat them if you want, it will then be OK within the keto diet. You can do the same with rice, but I don't like reheating rice, it's potentially dangerous

Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
Potato's are a no no if you're doing keto. You need to be eating less than 20g net carbs but ideally even less to either get or remain in ketosis. Rice again is high carb its a no no. The idea of the diet is you're letting it burn fat for fuel rather than glycogen so by purposely giving your body food high in carbs is not going to work. Sure you can still lose weight but that's not through being in ketosis. You will feel mentally better by eating a high fat diet trust me, not to mention you don't feel like snacking much as the high fat foods keep you feeling full for longer.gtclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 12:51 pmOne other bit of advice, if you like potatoes, and want to eat them with this diet, boil them, allow them to cool and eat them the next day, you can reheat them if you want, it will then be OK within the keto diet. Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
Oh and to the OP please make sure you buy himalayan pink salt and add it to everything as you will lose lots of magnesium, sodium and potassium due to your body flushing all the glycogen stores out. I would advise you to take a magnesium tablet daily which you can get from home bargains for 99p. You will lose all the electrolytes which take for granted as your body adjusts to keto so make sure you substitute them or you will feel like death. Himalayan pink salt is key. The foods you will now eat on keto are fresh, so fresh meat, veg etc so there's no extra salts coming in from crisps, processed food etc so sprinkle that salt on.
Something I do also which I made up is filling 2 empty capsules up every morning with pink salt and swallow them. This helps trust me. Im sure you have heard about the keto flu and believe me you will avoid it by doing what I've just mentioned

I didn't know that, thanks, as I said I've been doing a keto style diet for over 25 years, even when I stopped dancing as a profession therefore I excersise much less, my weight remained the same.

When I saw a dietician many years ago, before Atkins and Keto was known, I thought she was taking the p*ss when she said I could eat cheese, eggs bacon and butter. I was trying to lose body fat, and was being told to have a fry up, surely not. The food I really missed was bread, I don't have a sweet tooth so sugar wasn't so much of a problem, but I did miss the carbs. I'm used to it now, but it was tough to start with. So remember, it's not easy, there is an adjustment period, get through it, and you wont

Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
I think my problem with Keto was that it just wasn’t good for the long term. I see on here the the people who rate it are now doing it ‘again’. I’ve lost and managed to keep it off for first time in my life doing what I’m doing now, which is change my lifestyle. I register on a 300 mile cycle challenge every month and weigh myself weekly. I feel better physically and mentally than I have in a very long time.

Only reason I'm doing it again is because its easy to lose weight fast. Last time I got to my target weight of 12st 10 but struggled to consistently exercise with the gyms being shut due to lockdown. Obviously you need to still eat sensible once you've done keto but as long as you're keeping active and putting good food in you then you don't need to worry about putting much back onPearcey wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 9:03 amI think my problem with Keto was that it just wasn’t good for the long term. That's what diets are marketed for. So you lose weight - put it back on - then go back on it, pay for classes, books, meal plans etc.Pearcey wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 9:03 amI think my problem with Keto was that it just wasn’t good for the long term. Definitely agree with this Frank although keto isn't the case as its very simple. High fat, low carb, moderate protein. You don't need to pay anyone to do your meals or whatever nor pay for monthly magazines etcFactualFrank wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 9:15 amThat's what diets are marketed for. If you're doing it properly mate then yes the first week is the worst as you adapt to a new diet and enter ketosis. Now you will start to the pounds fly off every week now which is addictive in itself. Keep it up the good work bud

Ok. Give me some Keto ideas for breakfast and lunch that are easy to do and take to work. I'm struggling with ditching the bread and cereal as not sure on easy, filling options. I was thinking doing full fat yogurt with nuts for breakfast.
Re: New Year’s (Keto) Diet
I’m no expert but yogurt is dodgy unless you go for soya.
I mainly work from home but I am eating a lot of fish for breakfast, some mornings if I have to go to the office I’ll have a brew with cream the a mid morning snack.
Lunch varies massively, usually meat or tuna with cheese and salad. On FB there is a Keto UK Recipes group which is brilliant for ideas.
My top tip is sugar free jelly, I would have quit without it

Keep it simple mate. For lunch I have bacon and egg fried in coconut oil.
For evenings I have spinach, kale, cabbage with different meats each day. Pork chops, steaks, chicken legs etc. Fatty cuts.
I keep it simple and it works a dream. Im not into buying a million ingredients to make dozens of different meals which are just for myself. For snacks I eat pepperamis or a packet of pork scratchings.
Fry your food in coconut oil too that's healthy and ups your fat intake.
If you want any more advice etc then im more than happy to help gents
