Saturday afternoon local football league. Who did you play for?
Keighley Green was my team (1978-1985 then serious knee injury) the A team were in div 1 and the B team in div 2. Pitch 3 (upper Towneley) was my favourite, never seemed to have a good game on pitch 8. If the ball went in the river Alan Ludlam (referee legend who would cycle everywhere) would wade in whilst the rest of us were fannying about trying to keep our feet dry.
Brian Bennett was our most excellent manager.
The annual club trip was in the general direction of Blackpool was usually hilarious (surprisingly similar to when Del Boy and Rodney went on coach trip to Brighton ) and we had some extremely dubious coach drivers (most of whom liked a few pints themselves!).
If anyone is reading this who was there (squad members and opponents) then a big thank you for some of the best years of my life.

Didn’t play Saturday football.
Played on a Sunday for Barrowford Celtic from Under 8s to 16s, before moving to Nelson, where I played for youth team.

Played for several Saturday and Sunday teams for donkey's years including Worsthorne, Belvedere, Generals and Redrose.
So long in fact you might have expected me to get good at it but that never seemed to happen!
I did score a hat trick once and then was subbed off in the very next game by a fellow poster on here - but I'm not bitter.

Re: Saturday afternoon local football league. Who did you play for?
Got me thinking a bit – played for lots of junior teams and through school, but as regards adult league teams, quite a lot:
Keele Univ. in a regional Staffs Sunday league;
The Gauntlet, Fleetwood CC FC, and Clifton Casuals in Blackpool and district leagues;
BFC London Supporters (ABPSCIL League), and Cranford Legion down in the Smoke;
Bell Sports FC in Southend, Outwood Common FC from Billericay in the Mid-Essex League;
The Woolpack FC in a Carlisle Sunday league;
Then finished off with playing for the newspaper I worked for in media football tournaments and regular “friendlies” for a few years.
Might have missed a couple but can’t remember at moment.

Ashton United for a season. and a team I can't remember name of in Stockport league
Re: Saturday afternoon local football league. Who did you play for?
Played for the Morris Dancers on a Sunday for a couple of seasons after I moved back up here. Left the house at 0930 and sometimes made it home for tea - though always after the pub (we got a donation from the pub for every pint the footy team bought to be used at the end of season party). For some reason the wife insisted that I pack it in when we had our 2nd child.
The football was industrial but we had one or two cracking players that would make the difference if they were sober enough to play.

Rosegrove Railway (British Rail initially) and a season or so at Burnley United (reserves mainly). 1990’s and very early 00’s.
Injury put paid to a promising career at the top. As well as not being good enough.

Re: Saturday afternoon local football league. Who did you play for?
I think it was ‘Crazy horse’ who played for Keighley Green first team who had to have two pints and a large portion of pie and peas before every match to ‘give him energy’
I wonder if Sean Dyche has ever tried that with any off-form players as a last resort

Levrai- I also played for Peugeot in Coventry, probably around 1992 I think, for just one season. Started off as a 16 year old playing for Oswaldtwistle St Mary’s in the Accy Combination, then went off to collage and played for Leicester Poly 1st’s, North Kilworth in the Leicester Senior League, then Alvis on Saturday’s and Unipart then Keresley Jaguar on Sunday’s in the Coventry leagues. Happy days.

Skipton Bulldogs reserves: Craven League div 2 - 1977/9
Then I retired to go off to study as a 25-year-old. Wish I'd played longer.

Re: Saturday afternoon local football league. Who did you play for?
Played in the Nelson and Colne League in the early 1970's for Howorths FC when Richard Pickering was the manager. Great times!
Re: Saturday afternoon local football league. Who did you play for?
Never been local to Burnley, but played most of my Saturdays in the Sussex County League (Combination now) and sometime in the Southern League where a certain Jimmy Mullen was manager of a side in our league. Played quite a bit of Sunday football, and Vets football too until fairly recently - might start again next season if we're allowed!
Re: Saturday afternoon local football league. Who did you play for?
Early 70s played for Nelson and Colne College Saturday morning, Colne Morrigans Saturday afternoon. Vaguely remember Paak United - seemed to be a somewhat controversial game!
Played in college for Hatfield Poly - Wednesday vs other Polys, Saturdays - London Commercial League Div 1, Sundays - St Albans Sunday league.
Played some Sunday games for The Emmott on my trips home from College.
Played for the Madison (WI) Chargers when I first moved Stateside. Finished out playing for Newport Beach with a bunch of ex pats here in So Cal.
Did try and play a couple of games in an over 50 league a couple of seasons ago - a pulled hammy ended that short career. Still think I could play though....

I played for Pendle Forest Under 15s in an away game at Embsay and played a blinder in a 3-0 win. Made my day when I got the Nelson Leader on the Friday, looked in the Pendle Villages section and in the short write up, my "series of excellent saves" were mentioned before the 3 goal scorers

Sunday league: Chester & District
Robin Hood, Helsby for many years.
Rose & Crown, Wallasey for a year.
Good memories. Used to play in the centre of the Racecourse at Chester and used the jockeys changing rooms when playing a few of the Chester teams such as the Police and the Watergate Pub which was next to the Racecourse. The "quick and the dead league" if you weren't quick you were dead

I don't often post (but read UTC daily) but this one I felt worth listing - I played in and around Pendle from 1974-1979 before going overseas.
Colne Youth Centre (1 runners up trophy)
Morris Dancers (Div 2 winners and Div 1 unbeaten winners - Pendle Sunday League - once beating Sunspot 17-0)
Commercial FC (quite a few trophies with this team)
Intake FC (1 Amos Nelson Cup final win)
Nelson Stanley Reserves (unbeaten for 2.5 years in 1976/77 Nelson & Colne League - 4th Div and Cup winners, 3rd Div and Cup winners)
Edge End FC (Nelson & Colne League - League Cup winners and runners up in Amos Nelson Trophy)
Nelson (Blues) FC (George Watson Trophy Winners 1979 - beating Colne Dynamos over 2 legs)
