I cannot help but feel a pause to the season really is imminent at this point.

Be careful, you’re not allowed threads about crabs or std’s, especially if you’ve contracted them at an hypothetical sex party

I doubt a "pause" would be an option. A long term suspension until minimum March/April, or else keep going as we are with each club having a week or two off when the disease strikes as they are doing now. They're the only realistic options that I can see.

Agreed, by pause I didn’t mean a couple of weeks to be clear. I think you’re right in it being 2-3 months.

You have to also imagine the Euros is a disaster waiting to happen, surely it won’t be going ahead?

I can't imagine it will. Not a hope in hell of the vaccine target being reached by mid-February (but none of their other targets have been reached, so why should this one), and we're supposed to be ahead of the rest of Europe.

With the World Cup being at the backend of next year, I wonder if the Euros could run through next summer? Or, it'll be 2023 or cancelled completely, and back to normal for the Euros 2024.

Maybe you can't catch it when you're lying down. We don't need a national lockdown, we need a national lie down.

I've just seen this on a tweet saying our FA Cup match is likely to be off. Surprised there isn't a 10 page thread on this on the board

Why does the football need to be paused? Whilst retail and hospitality has closed, barring essential items, the rest of the country continues to work in one way or another.

Football and footballers are probably far better looked after than the rest of us in terms of support, safety and testing.

Should’ve gone for a herd immunity approach amongst athletes

I dont think it will be off - Dyche optimistic that it goes ahead. The SD Press conference thread discusses it more

What is the criteria being used to determine whether clubs can postpone matches?

Man city had one game postponed after positive tests, Fulham two, yet Sheff United had to play their game against us despite players in lockdown with the virus.

Seems very hit and miss at the moment.

Seems more than a strange coincidence that there were almost no cases before Christmas, and since the new year the cases have spiralled.
Given that all the players were in carefully controlled bubbles and were regularly checked with negative results, for it to get out of control now indicates a lot of mingling over the festive season.

Is anyone surprised that there was mingling over Xmas and not just by Pro footballers?

Let’s not forget this new strain is 70% more contagious, so I’d imagine most haven’t changed much about what they are doing

Therein lies the biggest problem, most people haven’t done what is necessary, especially footballers at big clubs

The CRITERION being used is obviously the perceived size of the club. “Massive “ clubs like Man City must obviously be protected at all costs. Premier League clubs that have sneaked in through the back door and are barely tolerated have to fend for themselves

...and Fulham...? ;) ahh, its the London club thing this time :D

tbh, I get your frustration, I feel its a little like that too. Perhaps us and Sheff Utd need to "play the system" a little more.

Update - game on

I'd hope that if we are losing first team players to the virus we have the option of postponing our game against Man U.

It's one thing having to play a weakened side in the F.A. Cup but another in the PL.
