New players - what Dyche needs to know

Post by Mala591 » Fri Jan 08, 2021 10:54 am

Pace to Dyche - ‘You have £20 million and £75,000 (per week in wages) to spend in the January transfer window.’

What could be simpler?

Does that £20 million include signing on and agents fees etc?

We have probably about as much chance of winning the PL this season as we have of paying a player £75k per week.

Given that Mr Pace has apparently already borrowed £50 million from BURNLEY FC to finance the takeover, I'm not sure that we'll be spending very much at all.

Up to hearing about that loan from Burnley, I was very positive about this takeover. Now, I'm not so sure.

Exactly! if we bring in a newbie on £75k a week, imagine the reaction of the rest of the dressing room.

Some people are getting giddy with this takeover, and seem to think we have a large war chest, we really don't yes it may help SD bring in a couple of players to bulk out the squad, but I certainly don't expect a mad spending spree, especially given the current uncertainty around revenue streams.

And I definitely don't want us to waste money on silly wages, that's what the likes of Bolton & Rovers did, and remember how it ended for both of them.

If we have not got two sounds players from the Championship lined up (up to Brownhills standard), then Rigg and his analytical team need showing the door. If we have to start the search NOW, then further justification. Now that we have three extra big salaries to pay (Pace plus two of his directors) then I suspect their will be a major review of current senior people (excluding players and coaches),

I think it would work the other way round. Pace would ask Dyche what he thinks is essential now and what he will need in future windows. Then he will ask who, and what sort of price range, Dyche sees for potential fits that he believes fill those essential buys. Then he will OK them or say that is not going to happen, look again at someone cheaper.

Not if they're nearing the end of their contracts they don't, and that's the ones we should be courting.

Brownhill didn't cost anywhere near £20m, and given the state of many Championship clubs finances, there maybe more bargains to be had in January, or more likely the summer.

This is the market we should be shopping in, and obviously expanding our European/overseas scouting network to pick up any emerging talents before they are out of our budget, Leicester is a great example of how this can improve you as a club.

We also shouldn't discount our own development squad players stepping up to the plate, there's several that are showing good signs, and if even one or two of them make the leap to the 1st team squad on a regular basis, this will rule out the need to just throw money at transfers and wages.

This is not correct. ALK Capital have obtained an external loan for the club secured against the club’s assets ( same as mortgaging your house). In any event, it is illegal ( i.e. against Company Law) to finance a takeover by borrowing money from the acquired company.

No they don't necessarily. Admittedly Watkins and Boden went for big money, and the value of Cash went up because Villa simply pay rather than negotiate . However both would have been hugely less if purchased before they peaked, and these names have been appearing on this message board for 2-3 years now. This is why you have a good scouting system. We need to take a leaf out of Leicester City's scouting. Some superb acquisitions abroad, but also some in the UK. James Justin was undisclosed fee, but I guarrantee below £20m, and he could walk into the majority of PL teams. James Maddison was I believe around £20m, and he is at the very top end. Maybe a season before he would have been around £12m.We need to wake up in thearea and hopefully the new owners will soon find out how sleepy we have been. The players are out there

We paid £15 million for Chris Wood from the Championship, Vydra was £10M, Hendrick just a few quid short of that (depending on which reports you read). And they were all enough years ago that they would cost far more if we were trying to buy them or someone similar nowadays

What could be simpler?
So does that mean he can buy one player for £20m on £75k a week, or multiple players (including free transfers) costing no more that £20m in total but all on £75k a week?

I'm only repeating what I read this morning. Whether or not it's true (Or legal.) I don't know.

https://footballeconomyv2.blogspot.com/ ... -from.html

According to several well-placed sources, ALK paid about £150 million for 84 per cent of Burnley’s shares but has put in only around £15 million of its own money up front. The rest has come from MSD Capital, the private equity firm set up in 1998 to manage the Dell family fortune — and approximately £55 million from Burnley’s own bank account.

So we can't unearth top quality players for next to nothing?

What about Pope and Tarkowski? When fully fit there aren't many better wingers than JBG in the Prem. In addition, we got one of the best left backs for peanuts in today's money.

Can you say any other PL club has done better than those four Championship players?

On one hand you are proving my point-that players do exist in the lower league. However these two were signed four and a half years ago, and five years ago respectively. Other than Westwood and Cork who else in 9 transfer windows have we bought of any first team worth from the lower leagues. Thats one hell of a lot of windows. I repeat again, we have been sleepy-we know it, the media know and keep telling us, and I suspect the penny has dropped with the new owners

Whilst it is true that Watkins was available for a considerably lower fee, when Brentford signed him from Exeter City, it was actually Brentford that gave him regular game time and developed him further. They actually moved him into a more central striking role during his final season where he proved to be prolific in front of goal. Ivan Toney will move on from Brentford for a higher fee than they paid for him but he is at least getting regular game time and improving his skill levels. If Burnley had signed either of these players they would have needed to spend several seasons out on loan, being given regular game time, with no guarantee that they would have developed so quickly.

Additionally Pope, Gudmundsson and Heaton all came from clubs relegated from the Championship plus Arfield from Huddersfield’s reserves/back up squad and all became International players at Burnley.

If this is the case, the club has not gained by the takeover,Dyche will be frustrated as nothing will have changed.Mr Pace will be judged by the transfer policy and recruitment,if the policy of cheap championship players continues, and having to sell Tarky to fund incoming transfers,we might as well have stuck with MG,and the club having no debts

Not sure we will be keeping Rigg going forward. If the debt is long term it’s not great but hopefully it’s short term with investors lined up. If the club now has long term debt ( ALK could sell it in the future with the debt once they’ve built the brand) it’s mainly served to line Garlick and JB’s pockets.
