Now there's a striker who's legs have gone for the top flight.
Just looking at his stats and the most appearances in a season were with us.
He peaked with us and QPR, steady decline ever since

Will be interesting to see how he does back in the Championship. Brilliant goalscorer at his best but the 2014/15 season was his peak.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 1:58 pmNow there's a striker who's legs have gone for the top flight.

Lots of players seem to have left Burnley for bigger and better things but, other than better wages, very few have achieved more on the field. In the past twenty years, I can only really think of Keane, Trippier and J Rod who’s careers have really progressed.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 1:58 pmNow there's a striker who's legs have gone for the top flight.

I think it’s fair to say Charlie had two fantastic seasons at QPR but their fans have a big shock in store if they think they are getting the same player back.kaptin1 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 2:50 pmLots of players seem to have left Burnley for bigger and better things but, other than better wages, very few have achieved more on the field. He's on 70k a week at WBA so you would hope he offers something for QPR, even if they're only paying half his wages.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 3:03 pmI think it’s fair to say Charlie had two fantastic seasons at QPR but their fans have a big shock in store if they think they are getting the same player back.

He did, although not sure he ever bettered the run he had with us when he scored 20 goals before November. Everything he hit seemed to go in. Left foot, right foot, head. His all round play left a lot to be desired but as a natural finisher, I’m not sure I’ve seen better than I saw during that period. Even Andy Payton in his pomp wasn’t that clinical.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 3:03 pmI think it’s fair to say Charlie had two fantastic seasons at QPR but their fans have a big shock in store if they think they are getting the same player back.

Always was impressed how much he improved his all round game when he played for us. Can't really say I've had the same impression with Wood. Although its a lot, lot harder in the premier league.

Re: ARTICLE: Former Claret Austin back at QPR
Austin will always score goals, There were questions over his legs when we had him! It’s just about at what level he’ll score them and with who. Proven finisher who will use his nous and become a bit more of a “goal hanger” Any team that consistently gets the ball in the danger area and doesn’t rely on him to track back much would be perfect. If he was at Rangers he’d have 20 goals by January.
You could definitely imagine reading wiki in 5 years time and going “blimey, Charlie Austin scored 35 goals for Boreham Wood last year”

Re: ARTICLE: Former Claret Austin back at QPR
Same.. during that purple patch in 2012 he wasn't just scoring pretty much every chance, he was our best defender at corners and could still get around the pitch well to ping a great cross in. He's not had a bad career, certainly made plenty of cash, just feel like he could have pushed on a bit more but I doubt he's too worried about how things went.superdimitri wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 5:09 amAlways was impressed how much he improved his all round game when he played for us.

I thought his biggest problem was his shoulder. Didn't he have to have it bandaged up every game to stop it popping out.

One of the best ‘pure’, instinctive finishers I’ve seen play for us. Should’ve played at higher levels than he has - had all the makings of a top PL striker.

Started the game at Tranmere but also played on the following Saturday against Sparta Rotterdam and scored twice.
