Perfect. Abandon this season, relegate the bottom 3 and we’ll kick on again in August.

My mate works in intensive care in London. Nurses the ratio is 1:1 for icu nurses because of the complexity of the patients and the very dangerous drugs they are on. In London it’s 1:6 with support from non-ICU staff, including dental nurses.
Get the physios and club doctors in hospitals where there are needed.

My mothers ICU and Chorley, Blackburn, Preston where she works have all been 1:4, it’s disgraceful really.Inchy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 7:20 pmMy mate works in intensive care in London. To be fair, working for the agency they’re getting payed a hell of a lot of money but it’s still wrong from a patient perspective
Re: Elite Sport To Stop
Feels inevitable really, but with the Euros this summer if they do stop not sure how you can finish the season.

Seems ridiculous that it’s still going on now. What makes sport so special that the rules don’t apply to them?

Re: Elite Sport To Stop
I know that some of the non-league footy clubs are considering aborting the season again, and annulling all promotion and relegation.
But I'm not aware of the PL or EFL calling a halt, doesn't mean it won't happen, but it would be a last resort.

I think some of the top clubs have full time doctors.
The physios can work along side the physios who are already working in ICU
Re: Elite Sport To Stop
Elite sport won’t stop. It’s far to important to people to not carry on. It’s been a welcomed break for so many over the past 6 months or so since it restarted. It must continue. The impact of these restrictions will be felt far longer the Covid itself.

Re: Elite Sport To Stop
I disagree. It provides a glimmer of normality, a spark of life in an otherwise pretty tedious situation. Assuming those staff with health conditions aren’t going to the match for whatever reason, and assuming the players and staff can abide by the privileged position they are in and not break the rules, then why shouldn’t it continue?claret2018 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 7:37 pmSeems ridiculous that it’s still going on now. Physiotherapist is a protected title, you can not call yourself a physio unless you are qualified and registered.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 7:36 pmIs the club Dr full time and what is a physio going to do in an ICU?
All physios should be trained and have experience in respiratory physio, even if they then decide to specialise in sport.
It is the physios who are trained and usually the ones responsible for ‘proning’ patients to put them in the best position to allow their respiratory systems to work most efficiently when coping with the pneumonia like symptoms that Covid presents with.

Most likely supports the lockdown by providing entertainment, without which some would be more tempted to break the restrictions by going out more. Also have to consider the mental health of the nation, for which elite sport plays a role by providing a much-needed distraction.

No idea on their validity but seems the rumours are linked to Horse Racing and the shortage of ambulances
Re: Elite Sport To Stop
I hope it doesn’t stop. My life seems entirely consumed by the virus.
At work I am seeing it at its worst every day. At home I turn on the tele to be told how it’s going to get worse.
I’ve never suffered from anxiety in my life but this is getting to me. I always expect the worst, so I can prepare for it. So far that’s helped but I’m fed up of being around this virus 24/7 either physically or via the media.
Football is one of the few things that I enjoy at the moment . I hope it can continue

I worry that if we shut down it will allow that Fat Sam time to galvanise WBA. Makes it tougher for us.

Re: Elite Sport To Stop
Didn't we have a similar thread a couple of weeks ago with certain posters saying that the season was going to be paused after the Christmas games?
But if someone on twitter says Elite Sport is going to stop tomorrow then it must be correct.

Re: Elite Sport To Stop
As Ive mentioned before , the nightmare scenario for BFC would be for football to limp on for another 3 or 4 weeks, and then after a horrendous run of fixtures for us, the season be called off and places decided on points per game at that point.

I said before the Fulham game that I think we’ve played our last PL game of the season, and I’m more confident of that statement now.

It's all about saving lives, and protecting the NHS.
As far as iam aware, no footballer has died, and none have been in hospital, so let's carry on please.

Re: Elite Sport To Stop
If players are managing to contract the virus within their bubbles then there must be some contact with the outside community. If there is some contact with the outside community then football players must equally have the ability to transmit the virus to the outside world
Whether the players themselves get ill and need hospital treatment is only part of the issue and so what must be assessed is what is the level of risk that football continuing will have at helping spreading the virus and thus lead to more pressure on the NHS
I have no idea where we are with respect to the level of risk it poses but we have lots of experts across public health, govt and science who have access to all the data and facts and have the skills and expertise on how to interpret the data and to make a decision.
I will therefore leave the decision with that group of people rather than put my faith in myself and the rest of the general public who are quite clearly nowhere near as informed or qualified

Re: Elite Sport To Stop
It isn't far to important to anyone, nor should it be.
However the fact is that despite sports best efforts, Covid is getting into the bubbles and the numbers of infected is growing.
The only way to stop it, would be to have the players, staff and match officials all gathered at one location for months on end but that was never going to happen.
Re: Elite Sport To Stop
I don’t want elite sport stopped. I want people to stay at home and do what they’re told to do. Only then can we reduce the time it will take for a degree of normality to return.
Like inchy said up the thread, football is all I can look forward to right now.

Couldn’t they have just put a bigger cordon around the area where that coach pulled up?
They used to put a bigger block around the area where we pulled up on the coaches at Stockport back in the day!
