Recent home matches vs Man Utd
Since Robbie Blake's amazing winner against Man Utd have we managed to carve out any genuine goal scoring chances against them at home? Other than the shot from Jones that hit the bar from distance I'm struggling to think of any.
Seems strange how flat we have generally been against them at home given how good our recent record has been at Old Trafford

Re: Recent home matches vs Man Utd
I took my Utd supporting mate last year. So spent ages after the match analysing it.
We were fairly comfortable until they scored but like many matches we had very little ambition.
It looked like we were happy at 0-0. And generally we are. As soon as they scored we didn’t look to have another gear. Again that seems to happen more often than not.
At Old Trafford we have been wonderful at soaking up pressure and then hitting them.
At home they have scored first and we’ve never looked like getting back into the match.

No, we haven't laid a glove on them at home.
With so many players out and no crowd to help us, it could be 4 or 5 against this time. They have frightening pace on the counter and a midfielder that really impacts games.
Two pens to them and they go top of the league.

We played well in the second half of last season's game and deserved at least a point. If United waste their inevitable early chances, we'll be alright.

Crystal Palace has 'frightening pace'. We beat them. Liverpool do as well - we drew at Anfield.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 9:51 amNo, we haven't laid a glove on them at home.

Re: Recent home matches vs Man Utd
From memory I think someone messed up and it allowed them to take the lead last year. It might even have (uncharacteristically) been Taylor? Up to then we were well in the game and still had a shout right up to the very end when we were inevitably chasing a goal. Against these teams your little errors, even 40/50 yards from goal frequently get punished and you can't afford to be playing catch up or they'll murder you. We have to score first. (But I'd happily take 0-0!)

Apart from Robbie Blake's goal against them in 2009, the last time we scored against them at Turf Moor was in 1969 with Geoff Nulty equalising a George Best goal in a 1-1 draw.

We have a chance if we keep it tight possibly play 5 in midfield to confuse them and start with Vydra or Jay, if we start with Barnes and Wood the predictability will be our undoing.

Yes we had kept it tight up until then. From memory i think it was a mistake in front of the away dugout that led to the goal; as you say teams like that can punish you from a great distanceDark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 4:41 pmFrom memory I think someone messed up and it allowed them to take the lead last year. Re: Recent home matches vs Man Utd
My memories hazy, but I think Charlie either misplaced a pass, or was robbed by Martial which led to their opening goal, and that was only a couple of minutes prior to HT, until that mistake there had been little to split the teams, but if you gift teams chances at this level you'll pay the price, so if we can minimise any errors, we'll be in with a chance, I must admit though their recent form is frightening, and they'll want to take advantage of their opportunity to hit the top of the league.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 4:41 pmFrom memory I think someone messed up and it allowed them to take the lead last year. Yeah but this time we’ve got two in-form strikers...Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 4:48 pmApart from Robbie Blake's goal against them in 2009, the last time we scored against them at Turf Moor was in 1969 with Geoff Nulty equalising a George Best goal in a 1-1 draw.

Re: Recent home matches vs Man Utd
Can’t recall if it were Taylor or Dwight but we failed to put a ball out of play on the left, Pierera (or however you spell it) ran hard to rob the ball, immediately played a great ball in to Martial and bang, 1-0. Otherwise we did okay.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 8:27 pmMy memories hazy, but I think Charlie either misplaced a pass, or was robbed by Martial which led to their opening goal, and that was only a couple of minutes prior to HT, until that mistake there had been little to split the teams, but if you gift teams chances at this level you'll pay the price, so if we can minimise any errors, we'll be in with a chance, I must admit though their recent form is frightening, and they'll want to take advantage of their opportunity to hit the top of the league.
I’m not at all hopeful to be honest. They are a much better team than last time we played them, will be starting with much better players and are in great away form. Plus they’ll likely be awarded 3 PK’s. Just hope we can keep it respectable. Do not care if we line up on the goal line really.
