West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread

If Skol did Saturday afternoons
Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Two things are clear from that showing. We are a much better side with Vydra and Rodriguez up top - we actually played some football which was refreshing. And two, Pieters is rubbish.

Well on a positive at least that won't paper over the cracks and may loose the purse strings.
Absolutely dire.

No pace,no creativity, no flair but we are linked to a right back from Everton.Good one Sean. Can someone tell Mr Dyche football is a entertainment business.
Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
We play at Anfield before that.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 4:54 pmWell, that was bloody awful.
I think we need about six new players in the next two weeks, starting with two forwards.
Odd on Vyds and JayRod start next week at Fiulham in the Cup. Let's hope they both score and retain their places in the league. (If Vyds is still here.)

Interesting how Mr Dyche will spin positives out of that
Only one goal in it
Extra mins on the pitch for players coming back from injury
Thought Wood and Barnes wore their defense down perfectly for the new subs
Don't have to travel back up to Whalley tonight - going home from here and hoping to get something nice for tea

I like any combination of Wood, JRod and Vydra. Wood hasn't been firing but he's our best striker and goalscorer. Barnes has to get dropped, I don't understand his inclusion today tbh

Jay and Vyds needed to start. Them 2 lumps up front are utterly useless and offer us nothing at the minute

Absolute shite midfield offered nothing and we passed to WHU more times than our own team.Credit to Ben Tarks Mat Lowton and Robbie Dwight though

Dyche has list it . Poor team selection and totally afraid to play football. Time to go Sean.

Can’t believe the negativity here. WHU were massive favourites for this game. You can’t realistically expect to go to these games and win every time. I think we played as well as they did and went down to a moment’s lapse of defending. We’ve got at least a couple of key players out and today (again) wasn’t helped by not starting our best side. They’ve defended like we do. But come on, I didn’t think it was that bad. Disappointed yes but I’m not going to slit my wrists.

Pretty grim indeed today.
We never looked like scoring but did perform
a touch better when McNeil came on but just couldn't create
many if any chances. Fabianski didn't have to make a save all game.
Vydra did more than Wood or Barnes but still no clear cut chances.
Not sure what Dyche does now?

Dyche at the limit of his abilities defence defence defence no creativity in midfield or up front having said that we did look good at times with Jary Rod, McNeil and Vydra

conceding early stuffed us. Was a soft one as well. Didn’t have the confidence to get back into it. Too afraid of conceding another. Looked better second half with subs but still not as good as we can be. Just hope we don’t get pasted by the scouse.

To go 1-0 down early against an average team and then create nothing in the rest of the game is abysmal.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
I don't think anyone can defend that performance today. Totally devoid of quality. We are in big trouble if we are going to persist with the Wood and Barnes combo as our preferred starting choice. McNeil made a huge difference, but we all know he is quality. I just don't understand why Burnley players can't pass a simple ball to each other ..... depressed after that. Is it wine o'clock !!!

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Not really. Slack defending let the goal in. Once in front they can simply shift to counter and we struggle to break decent sides down.
McNeil made a difference and actually shows how important he is to us (I've been critical of him recently but we look a lot better with him in the side. Both Wood and Barnes looked a little better once Dwight came on.
We miss Taylor a lot though as Pieters grafts but really offer v little in the opponents half.
Again our lack of decent options to change again highlights how **** our transfer windows have been in the last 2 years.
Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
It doesn’t matter who were favourites. You have to pick a team to play football. We were awful until late on

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
The midfield has nobody to pass to, Wood can’t hold the ball up to save his life at the moment , and when he eventually does his pass is horrendous, not sure what Barnes offered today either, but both strikers come deep and we can’t stretch the defence doing this. Hard to watch, and hard to see where goals will come from watching this .

If we don’t sign any attackers this month we’re down. Simple as that.

Thing is, if they start against Liverpool and don’t score then you’ll get the argument made that they are no better and calls for them to be instantly droppedGordaleman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 4:59 pmYes, I've corrected the post. but if they don't start at Liverpool, I'll bet they do at Fulham.
Bit like when played Vyds as a line forward against Man City and wonder why never got a touch of the ball

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Really poor, got what we deserved
You can't blame Wood and Barnes. We defend as a team, but we don't attack as a team.
Brady, Westwood, Brownhill, Lowton even Dwight, have no ideas when we cross the halfway line. Lots of huff and puff, but no guile, no skill on the ball. All the passes into the final 3rd are hit and hope, no accuracy at all. We never string passes in the opposition half. They're underhit, overhit, or completely aimless. We run into blind alleys, pick out the first man, get caught in possession as one man tries to dribble through 3.
It's easy for us all to sit at home and pick out all the faults and errors, but until SD sees it the same way as we do, its unlikely to change.
The really sad part is I think they are all better than that. It's almost as if they've had all the attacking nous drained from them , in pursuit of a clean sheet.

Much better second half, but that wasn't hard with the first half we were served up. McNeil was the difference and he took the game to them, but ultimately it just papered over the massive cracks because we're utterly toothless.

I can't agree that Jay and Vydra did better. McNeill made the real difference and I don't think either Jay or Vydra really mustered an effort worth anything.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Those are all great ideas, but you assume that Dyche will pick players fairly and actually give new signings a game within 6 months.
Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
It's not so much a lack of effort as a lack of ability
Could agree Wood and Barnes put a shift in but the problem is they are just not good enough

Dwight McNeil has no guile or skill on the ball? Am I watching the same bloke?Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 5:02 pmReally poor, got what we deserved

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Wowzers. Some really angry people on here - possibly feeling the effects of lockdown?
West Ham have been very good this season. And this really was a game of fine margins. I’m frustrated but the first touch of all 4 of our strikers was lacking today as was the service into the box. McNeil was excellent and we might have been looking at 1-1 with a bit of rub of green and I’m
sure Dyche will reflect on a penalty shout for Barnes at the start of the second half, that happens in the middle of the pitch and a foul is invariably given.
We do need to start scoring soon though and a right winger would be my priority, Brady ok today on endeavour and some tidy play but really poor end product.

Re: West Ham v Burnley - Match Thread
Been calling for a proper striker now for weeks. Once again it stood out today. Wood just does not look interested-I was watching his body language today. He almost looks frightened to make a mistake. I saw a different McNeil today though after having been kept on the bench for two weeks. Just like his old self. I think a rest for Wood would do him the world of good and make him realise he has to fight for his place.

If Wood doesn’t get dropped now he never will, it’s not about being angry or scapegoating individuals , it’s about seeing someone who’s form is abysmal which is another contributing factor to the side performing badly
