Players laughing and joking at full time
This could well just be me not reacting well to a defeat and I’ll hold my hands up if that’s the case but it was noticeable to me at full time the actions of the players. Plenty of laughing and joking with the West Ham players, and smiles aplenty. I can’t say I’ve ever seen that from a Dyche Burnley team before and especially not after such a rotten performance.
Did anyone else notice this and is it something we should worry about?

True observation I'm afraid. There are one or two players who are "going through the motions" at present IMHO.

I think possibly the whole Covid thing has had an impact. Like everyone a bit of human contact here and there is missed.
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Yep, we've just commented on that. Incredible reaction to such a dismal display.
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Not good if that's the case but I turned over as soon as the ref blew the full time whistle

Never saw joey Barton doing that after a loss. Mind you we did go 23 undefeated when he played.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
I didn't see it, turned it off when the whistle went - that's the problem with Garlic's frugal approach though, the squad isn't deep enough and they all know they will play next week and the week after - Dyche's hands are completely tied in terms of personnel

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
It’s football. You win some you lose some. Players chatting and having a laugh with old mates - its no biggy. They probably feel more freedom in an empty stadium and forget the cameras are trained on them. I’m sure the players are as disappointed as the fans about another disappointing performance and result.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Dyche may like a "small, tight knit squad", however all the players involved today know tonight they will start, and a number not only played badly but have been for a few games. Look at the difference in Dwight McNeil in the second half-back to his best, after not starting two games

Irritates the life out of me, Pieters hugging laughing and smiling after that game says it all, an absolute stinker from him.

I think it's probably called sportsmanship. I thought to a certain extent it was in evidence against Man Utd. too. May well be a result of Covid 19....

probably nervous laughter, knowing how their collective dreadful performances would be received by the fans.

Yes you did. Not explicitly but certainly suggested or alluded to. Clear for everyone to see.
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
I must say West Ham would be a terrible move for Tarkowski, shite team they are. At least you would understand him wanting to join a Leicester but throwing his toys out of the pram to join West Ham?

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Nope the other person implied in his post that laughing and joking with the other team after a defeat is not the best and used Barton as an example of how to act after losing
My post implied that maybe Barton is not the best example to use of how to act when things are not going well
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Moyes looks like he's building a decent team there to me. Definitely a better option for Tarks than signing a new deal with us.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
He'll get more money, which is certainly a reason for his move as he suggested it as he moves nearer to his 30's, it's a short career type of thing. And if they are pushing the the top 10 and he's playing well then England will certainly look at him as West Ham are a much more fashionable English club than us. Jesus, if Rice can be a regular for England, anyone can!
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Wtf has Barton, playing for QPR and drawing 1-1 against City away early in the second half, got to do with how he reacted at the end of a disappointing performance playing for us?Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 5:21 pmNope the other person implied in his post that laughing and joking with the other team after a defeat is not the best and used Barton as an example of how to act after losing

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
They are going through a good spell and we aren’t but we’ve consistently been a better side over long periods than West Ham. Side ways move for more money? certainly not an exciting move to throw out the toys. That stadium is about as soulless as can be
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Pieters was probably laughing about how shite he was today.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Doesn’t bother me at all. When the final whistle goes it’s history. They fought hard enough in the match just lacked quality.
Strange with Pieters every time he has filled in the midfield he’s been fine whenever he plays his natural LB roll you can see why Stoke got shut.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
As it stood QPR were on the verge of getting relegated and Barton's reaction was to get violent and get himself sent off. Throughout his career he has lost the plot and acted badly when things arent going his way on many occasions.I therefore think he is a poor choice of player to use as an example to how players should act after a defeat.
You can disagree if you want (thats your choice) but that is my view and that is the implication I was making with my original post. Now please go and bicker with someone else if you've got yourself upset again like you did after the Leeds defeat as I'm not interested in anything more you have to say on the subject

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
We stopped at the services on the way back from the 6-5 defeat at Grimsby. The players coach pulled in and they got off laughing and joking without a care in the world.
The players see it as a game they get paid for.
But it's not like it can alter the result, it's gone.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
They were probably laughing at the meltdown on here. I can't blame them.
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Barton was really positive when he was here and played a key role in galvanising and motivating. That's clearly what the other poster was referring to - I suspect, like me, he doesn't give a toss what Barton did at QPR.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 5:36 pmAs it stood QPR were on the verge of getting relegated and Barton's reaction was to get violent and get himself sent off. I'm surprised you brought up the Leeds game when you showed yourself up by saying the referee was right.
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
On today’s performance he wouldn’t get in the team !! Dawson and Ogbona totally outmuscled our front two. Mind you our cat could have done that

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Didn’t notice it today but thought that we looked like a pub team emerging from the tunnel before the MK Dons game.
Smile, yes but IMO we should look like a professional outfit at all times. A shake up is obviously needed and the manager needs to reinforce his own high standards.
“Burnley won’t be in a relegation scrap” seems to be the universal opinion of the pundits (all of them - today and previous games). I am not so sure.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
We’re bang in the middle of one. We’re halfway through the season pretty much and we’ve scored 9 goals.
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
I noticed that last week as well. Looked more like a Sunday league team than a professional outfit getting prepared for a game.IWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 5:56 pmDidn’t notice it today but thought that we looked like a pub team emerging from the tunnel before the MK Dons game.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
You have to remember though without fans these have any underlying practice game vibe ( not the effort or end results) and without the baying mob I guess players can shake on a good hard contest . That said no ,I didn’t like it but always switch off ASAP after whistle

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Perhaps it was through embarassment?
Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Haven't got an issue with the players laughing and joking
at the end.
But do have an issue with them playing badly during the game.
Although I'm sure they weren't doing so deliberately but they
were void of ideas. In the second half McNeil did get the ball across
a few times but can't recall anyone of our forwards being able
to get on the end of any. They weren't particularly great crosses
having said that and we never looked like scoring or forcing Fabianski
into making saves.
We're bereft of ideas up front and also in midfield and as pointed out by
commentator when we hoof it up there's a 30 yard gap between those up front
and the midfield.
We need something and I think this time round it's fresh blood. If nothing else
to give some competition to those who may feel that they're always going to start
however poorly we play.
Wonder what Syche is going to say post match?
at the end.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
The players are content with losing and relegation. At the end of the day they won’t be dropped and they still get paid thousands at the end of the week. No repercussions. Then you have players like Tarks who think they are the nest players on earth and who don’t care as if we go down a bigger club will snap them up anyway because what club wouldn’t want a centre half who can’t mark strikers from a relegated club?
Seems like we miss a Barton type figure in the dressing room to bash some heads together. Dyche would usually sort them out but I think the whole Garlick saga has taken its toll, and with the new owners not spending a single bean on anyone yet I think he is losing the desire he once had for this club to succeed as he’s all alone.

I think we should have come off kicking and punching each other.
We need a pointless gesture at this stage of the season.

Re: Players laughing and joking at full time
Barton has talked about that incident. He'd already been sent off and was trying to incite a reaction from a City player that would lead to them having to be sent off too. Not necessarily an uncontrolled rage but more gamesmanship maybe.
