Your team and formation vs Liverpool

Post by Mala591 » Wed Jan 20, 2021 7:31 am

4-4-1-1 with Brownhill playing narrow right midfield and Brady playing narrow left midfield (i.e. pack the midfield out).
McNeil to be given creative free roaming role behind Rodriguez or Wood.

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Brownhill Westwood Cork Brady
McNeil
Rodriguez or Wood

Pope
Lowton tarky mee Taylor (pieters)
Brady Brownhill Cork westy mcneil
Jay rod

Brownhill and westy slightly more licence than cork who sits and mops/dictates play. Jay up top on his own as I think he's our best technically gifted striker and has a good long range shot, with support from the 2 wide and Brownhill/westy.

Edit was Cork auto corrected to work

Can see him changing it today, it's a free hit and if it doesnt work he can revert back to custom settings.

Wasnt it City away where he changed it, played Vydra up top on his own then after a battering said something along the lines of people are questioning why certain players haven't played, well they did today..
( I maybe dreaming or mixing up 2 games )

However

We have to nullify Mane and Brady won't be as good as Brownhill to deal with that

Brownhill and McNeil also have enough pace to get up and support Wood

But it doesn't matter if we are predictable in line up or not, the question is: what is YOUR line up and formation, not what you think Sean will PICK, What would You pick. I find it a good thread and 1 to see different views and ideas

5-5-0

We are not effective at all up front and we might just lose 1-0 instead of 4-0.

Bardsley Tarks Mee Taylor(hopefully)

Bardsley puts a better ball in than Lowts, and occasionally has a good shot from distance.
Liverpool would be more threatened by the pace of Vyds, and the spinning of Jay Rod, than lumping balls to Wood and Ash (it's a horses for courses thing).
I'd be tempted to go 5 in the middle and play Cork for one of the strikers, but if you concede early with that formation you've got nowhere left to go.

Seriously, if all goes well, a possible 3 points with our big lads and their makeshift centrebacks.

Joel Matip will likely make his comeback tomorrow, so they won't be quite as weakened in that area alas.

Dwight & Jay are our most technical players, so we need to try and get them into the game as much as possible, and play the ball on the deck FGS.

Quite an optimistic team selection but a good one. But something has to change in regards to how SD sets up against the so called big boys, so why not start tomorrow 👍

I agree whatever we try against the big boys we'll probably lose anyway, so why not at least have a go, and you never know if we can put them under enough pressure we might just get a result, goodness if Brighton, Fulham, Newcastle & West brom can draw with Liverpool then why can't we.

Our recent history has shown that launching the ball has led to our goals and points at anfield also playing on the deck is not easy for the best of teams at that ground.

Almost certainly SD will give Vydra a start alongside Wood, he'll barely get a kick for 65 minutes because we only have 13% possession of the ball and then SD will say, the lad had his chance, looked out of his depth and Barnes is back next week. (After we've lost 3-0)

Don’t know whether to be optimistic and think we’ll make some changes, or accept the inevitable crap hoofball up to Wood and Barnes.

Come on, surely you can see that the current two are just not working. Right now I would argue that any of our other strikers (possibly including some of youngsters) would offer us more going forward.

The manager will go with the same preferred lineup with two barge poles up front and ironically this is probably the best game for these tactics. Liverpool have their injury problems in central defence and are playing various makeshift combinations. I think that they definitely have a weakness in the air and that we have a chance to exploit whatever pairing they put out.

So (fingers crossed) if our defence can do their usual efficient job I think that we can scramble something from tonight’s game.

I was being more than a little tongue in cheek and let's be honest it doesn't matter who gets picked, we aren't coming away with owt! (I know we have done on a couple of occasions recently, but we're not the team we were even 12 months ago and I was probably being generous suggesting we'd get 13% possession!) Which is why I suggested Dyche might throw the shirt to Vydra as a fop to all those who say he hasn't had very many chances (and that includes Vydra himself!)
I'm honestly not sure where I personally stand on Vydra. He's definitely different to any other option we have up front and I feel his pace and his movement and his first touch are much better than anyone else and for his "minutes on the field" he seems to get a lot of chances and half chances, but he does seem to miss more than his share too.
