Not me. All the missing names look pretty young hence my suggestions of Murray and Blant as they were both apprentices during that season although didn’t sign until March so prob not on photo. Assume player next to Todd is third choice keeper but no idea of his name. Hope somebody can fill in the gaps. Great pic

Was there a keeper called Gaskell?
Re: Who is this 50s/60s ex-Claret?
Can’t find him in Clarets Chronicles but I seem to remember the name. Was a Gaskell at Man U I think

Just had a look in a 64/5 programme a lad called Gaskell played for reserves and had a goal credited to him, so unlikely my offer was correct. Old age on my part.

Re: Who is this 50s/60s ex-Claret?
Tony, which year was it when Ray Pointer appeared on the pre- season team photo but departed before it began? Also, is this time right for Peter Simpson and alsoJohn McGarty, but he might have been a year later. Thinking about the lad on the back row (not the keeper).ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 6:05 pmI think you are correct. It can't be any later - we switched to white socks in 1965/66 but both Johnny Price and David Walker are on the photograph and both left us at the end of the 1964/65 season.

On second thoughts, McGarty was more the size of the lad next to Merrington.
Re: Who is this 50s/60s ex-Claret?
Simpson was with us from 57-63 Can’t find anything about Mcgarty.

Mcgarty was a bit later than 63. He left us to go back to Scotland to Dunfermline, played one game for them - in Scottish Cup Final and won a winners medal. He was still under 20 - short career.

McGarty never played in our first team.

Spoke with Stan in Kettledrum and he remembered him, as a reserve.

Agree about the size. He was tall and physical as I remember. Had a habit of falling over !

Re: Who is this 50s/60s ex-Claret?
I'm going for it being McGarty on the basis that this was his first year and he was gangly and by the time he appeared on the following year's photo (posted on here before) he'd filled-out and got a different hair cut. 2 years with us then off?basil6345789 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 9:50 pmSpoke with Stan in Kettledrum and he remembered him, as a reserve.

Re: Who is this 50s/60s ex-Claret?
Missed all this. Sounds to have been a cracking thread. Certainly a very young looking Len Kinsella, but it's definitely him. As for the now remaining eight, I believe these are the names, all someone has to do is put names to the faces!
Think Billy Gaskell is the fair haired lad on the front row, the others being Dicken, Holmes, Kay, McGarty, Millar, Nicholl & Wilson.

Re: Who is this 50s/60s ex-Claret?
Royboy has beat me to it whilst I was researching. From a programme.
Look at Ray Pointers CL scoring. You can’t keep a good man down.
I wouldn’t know any of Royboys names but I’m thinking that Nichol is Chris Nichol and he was so tall he would stand out. As Dicken is 6 apps, 0 goals is he possibly the third keeper? This tallys as Harry Thomson has 21 apps and they had played 27.Look at Ray Pointers CL scoring. You can’t keep a good man down.

Nichol and Mc Garty at the back. Others easier to recognise.

17 goals in 23 games for my dad. Not a bad record all told is it...
Re: Who is this 50s/60s ex-Claret?
That's a really interesting selection of photos with some less common names - there's one with Rodney Jones, Colin Blant and Wilf Wrigley, 68/69 for example.claret1977 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 5:52 pmThere are some great photos on this site that I haven't seen on others such as Getty:

The link should be date range from 1945-1969 but there are plenty more from other eras.

I can actually answer that. She died in a road accident a good number of years ago.sandy richardson wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 9:31 amAnd whatever happened to Margaret Mcnamara who married an American millionaire?

I was amazed when I saw the name but her brother & dad both married into our family. The last time I saw her was at a family event in 1991.sandy richardson wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 11:54 amThanks, CT--although you could have broken it to me gently.

Re: Who is this 50s/60s ex-Claret?
With regards to the 3rd keeper.
We had a young lad, who played for the Scotland Youth team, called Matt Tyrie. He may well be the guy on the photo (?) but could well be before his time with us. CT may know......

I think that's a good spot claretfern - I think it's Tyrie on the far right of the back row.claretfern wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 1:45 pmWith regards to the 3rd keeper.

Did you see my comment under the appearances photo? I’m not saying I’m right but it does seem to fit. To be honest I don’t even know if Dicken was a keeper.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 2:44 pmI think that's a good spot claretfern - I think it's Tyrie on the far right of the back row.
