As someone who has not followed this as closely as some of you....
Seems like a battle between two lots of egos, that neither have much idea or drive in actually trying to achieve anything with regards rescuing Bury... other than rock themselves to sleep at how it is everyone else’s fault. Rescuers who don’t feel they need to communicate with the wider fan base...

Have sympathy for both sides. Agree the leagues washing of their hands of it all is outrageous, but we knew that at the time. Bury are the Shakers is the history.... you cannot make a new copy of it. The only guy who makes no sense what so ever is the guy writing the official site, and we knew he was a nob too.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 11:27 amAs a counterpoint to that astonishing effort from ForeverBury yesterday - try this looking at AFC Bury

I am also amazed at the latest development. A new club set up was surely the way to go, but it seems as one organisation haven't got their own way so trying to resurrect what surely is a dead club.

But the fact that he was able to get ownership before checks, however desperate they were to get an owner in caused this stalemate.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 3:19 pmCan't agree - the league had no option, they tried everything and didn't wash their hands of it all.

What I cannot understand is why the Neville brothers have remained so tight lipped about it, it was always said they were big Bury fans because of Neville.

Re: Bury : No Wages
The Neville brothers haven't been tight lipped at all, they've had plenty to say on the matter. But they can't offer any financial help because of the stake they both have in another club. That was rightly stopped after the antics of Robert Maxwell and Anton Johnson.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 3:27 pmBut the fact that he was able to get ownership before checks, however desperate they were to get an owner in caused this stalemate.

Re: Bury : No Wages
Both did enough spouting about it, their mum worked there too, but it was Oxford and Derby with Maxwell, not Reading who he was trying to buy to close them down by merging them with Oxford. Johnson owned Rotherham, Derby and Southend. Derby were facing relegation so he moved some money there from Rotherham to help them sign players to stay up and Rotherham went down instead.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 3:38 pmYes I remember the Oxford, Reading Thing vaguely. That brought up a new rule in English football where you can't have a stake in other clubs once you have 10% in any other club.

I've always wondered why the Nevilles chose to invent Salford FC rather than giving their support for Bury, a proper, long-established club.

Yet more strange goings on re Capital Bridge Solutions, this time during the Administration - have they really sold their assets (that mortgage on Gigg Lane) for £5k, and to whom? (one suspects Dale of course - his plan could be coming together, though I am sure it never involved him running a football club)Chester Perry wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 9:59 amNow this is Interesting - Capital Bridging Solutions, who own the mortgage on Gigg Lane - you know the one that put off all those who tried to buy the club last summer - has filed for Administration according to Companies House

Bury FC who haven't played any football for 18 months have been taken into administration - this could end up being quite revealing as I suspect a number of assets are now not within the ownership of the club

Re: Bury : No Wages
It was suspected that something like this had happened but it is still totally depressing to have it confirmed - from the MEN
Former Bury FC owner Steve Dale's son acquired club's trophies, administrators claim
Exactly which trophies are said to be missing is not clear, although Bury were in possession of two FA Cups from victories in 1900 and 1903

The administrators of Bury Football Club say former owner Steve Dale's son has acquired the team's old memorabilia, including trophies.
The Shakers, a historic team founded over 135 years ago, were kicked out of the football league in 2019 and then fell into administration in November last year after Mr Dale purchased the club.
Steven Wiseglass, the club's administrator, has penned a 21-page report on his progress after six months in the job.

The document explains that he is still working to answer a number of questions about the running of Bury FC, including the location of cash taken as gate receipts for a number of games towards the end of the club's final season.
Exactly which trophies are said to be missing is not clear, although Bury were in possession of two FA Cups from victories in 1900 and 1903.
Discussing the club's silverware and memorabilia, he wrote: "The issue with regards to the memorabilia as discussed in the proposals is still to be resolved.
"Steven Dale has now advised that his son Christian Dale acquired these assets, our solicitors are engaging with the parties to resolve the position. The administrator currently disputes that there was a lawful transfer of these assets."
Mr Wiseglass also said he believes the club has received all the money it should have been given for any player transfers.
He wrote: "After a review of the company bank statements, I have been able to identify various payments for manger/player transfers that had previously taken place and believe all these transactions have been appropriately received by the company (Bury FC)."
But, he has claimed that he is investigating a number of 'transactions' involving the club.
Adding: "The administrator is currently investigating a number of transactions that have taken place and is querying these with a number of parties including but not limited to the current directors, former directors and officers of the company.
"No further information can be provided in this regard so as not to prejudice any investigations.."
Mr Wiseglass also provided an update on Gigg Lane. Bury's former home, which is currently up for sale.
The sale of the stadium is in the hands of property firm Fleurets, with 'a number of interested parties' having already been in touch.
A preliminary deadline of August 5, 2021, has been set for offers to buy the stadium to be received.
Steve Dale was approached for comment by the M.E.N. but did not respond.

Statement
Aug 26
We can confirm that with the help of a benefactor, Forever Bury, and other local business people, Est. 1885 have tabled a bid to purchase Gigg Lane and Bury Football Club.
At the time of writing this statement we are hopeful that our bid will be successful and that Bury Football Club can return for the 2022/23 season, but we are aware of other bidders who are interested in the site.
We ask ALL Bury fans to get behind this bid, which is fully supported by our 2 local MPs, as well as Bury Council, so that we can all take our seats once more watching the Mighty Shakers play at Gigg Lane.
We hope to provide further information and news when it is possible, but at the moment we ask for patience whilst we continue to work towards achieving the goal of saving Gigg Lane and Bury Football Club.

I presume they would have to start again from a few tiers down like Macclesfield? So best if the already formed Bury team just switch to playing their home games at their former home.
Or is that to simple a solution?

Sadly the main supporters group wouldn't back the new club in any way. It looks as though the supposedly resurrected Bury will be allowed in around National League North level which is surely not right.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 9:46 amHopefully they can.

Some club, somewhere, has got to miss out.
If my local side continue as well as they are and end missing out on a promotion, I'd be pretty peed off.

A government "levelling-up" fund has pledged to give £1million towards the buying back of Gigg Lane by supporters, provided they can raise the same amount, after an application by fans group Forever Bury, the long term aim being to get football back there.
Apparently, its a race against time to do it before developers get their mitts on it, according to the Manchester Evening News, however I thought there was some sort of covenant against that.

Re: Bury : No Wages
How come other clubs who have gone bust haven’t been given £1 million? Why didn’t macclesfield get it?
It is stupid how the government are now bailing out football grounds. I have every sympathy for bury fans, but using government money to save their ground is not the way to go about it. Every other club has to pay for their ground, be it through rent or whatever, yet Bury get theirs bought by the tax payer. A bit like a northern west ham!
Always it is completely unfair on every other club who has followed the rules and has managed to live within their means.

Re: Bury : No Wages
Whilst both the parliamentary seats of Bury North and Bury South have Conservative majorities of less than 500, I think this is a case of " Damned if they do, and damned if they don't " !!
The £1m pledged by the Government is linked to the installation of an all weather pitch and Gym, for public use, and the redevelopment of the Manchester Road stand to incorporate an NHS facility.
So depending on your politics, the headline would be either " Cynical Tories indulge in " Pork barrel " politics in buying Gigg Lane " or " Gove shows caring side in Gigg Lane rescue funding " ..... if they'd have done nothing, " Uncaring Tories let historic Club ground rot " etc,etc ....

Re: Bury : No Wages
Interesting period for Bury fans - will they let the animosity go and join together for a (hopefully) brighter future - from the Guardian
Bury at a crossroads over historic merger but fans remain hopeful of homecoming
After much infighting, supporters are now faced with a momentous decision on whether to unite under one banner

Surely to god there's more that unites them than divides them. I don't claim to know anything about what these "entrenched positions" are about, but like someone says in the article, this is a "golden opportunity" to come together.

Re: Bury : No Wages
They have had the vote. It’s gone against a merger. The majority voted in favour, but didn’t reach the percentage required. So looks like Bury FC v Bury AFC will continue.
Both sides now claiming the moral high ground.

Re: Bury : No Wages
I don't expect anyone will feel sorry for either of these people - though one suspects they won't be struggling, such is the way of these things these days
The last two Bury FC Chairmen - each contributing significantly to the destruction of the club in different ways have been declared bankrupt
Former Bury FC chairmen Stewart Day and Steve Dale declared bankrupt
