From what I have seen of Knight ( around 3-4 games) he looks a young promising player and would be a good addition to the group. Howey he would struggle to make our bench for the rest of this season , imho of course.

Certainly looks a good prospect. If we signed him and King it will be a decent window. Hopefully give us enough to stay up then be expecting a lot more business to happen in the summer.

Rooney says he's not going anywhere.

given our current plight, if we sign anyone they need to walk into the first team and improve it, that's going to cost money and we either have it or we don't.

Bearing in mind some of the benches we’ve put out (2 keepers etc), our regular injuries to two of our wingers and the fact Benson is on the bench each week, I think he’d be fine.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 4:44 pmFrom what I have seen of Knight ( around 3-4 games) he looks a young promising player and would be a good addition to the group. Knight is one of the best young talents outside of the premier league. But certain Burnley fans don’t think he would even make our bench is absolutely laughable. Il say it again he starts anywhere in our midfield apart from McNeil.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 6:19 pmBearing in mind some of the benches we’ve put out (2 keepers etc), our regular injuries to two of our wingers and the fact Benson is on the bench each week, I think he’d be fine.
People were crying out for Eze last year. I know they play different positions but this kid is same calibre.

The people saying Knight wouldn't make our bench are probably those saying similar about Brownhill last year.

No surprise, we had fans saying Grealish wouldn't make our side when Villa was in the Championship - and the same about Shaqiri and Jesse Lingard!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 6:28 pmBut certain Burnley fans don’t think he would even make our bench is absolutely laughable.

Brownhill looked like a rabbit in the headlights on his first sub appearance - training with the squad for a while gave us a very different proposition when he made his first start, it is a very different ball game and that is not questioning either Knight or Brownhill just what it is - the age of Knight could help though

Different calibre of player. Not convinced Brownhill is premier league quality player now. Knight will come in and start ahead of him in my opinion.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 6:40 pmBrownhill looked like a rabbit in the headlights on his first sub appearance - training with the squad for a while gave us a very different proposition when he made his first start, it is a very different ball game and that is not questioning either Knight or Brownhill just what it is - the age of Knight could help though

I guess you’ve seen a lot of him then to make that judgement.

It won't take much to improve on Westwood and Brownhill who at this moment are way below the standard required at Premier league level

You're way below the standard required on a public message board, with rubbish like that.

Josh Brownhill has been a superb signing and proves there are players in the Championship who can step up we just need a couple more signing

Whilst you may be accurate in that assessment (I don’t agree btw) it’s a sure fire way to destroy team spirit in the squad don’t you think...?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 4:21 pmKnight starts ahead of anyone in our midfield bar McNeil
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Who is the lad we have signed from Hastings utd ??
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I really don’t get the Brownhill bashing.
He has been a very good addition for us. Full of energy and commitment. Could he do more going forward? Maybe, but he’s in a two and primarily asked to break up opposition play, which he does very well.
I haven’t seen anything of Knight, and even if he was good enough to go straight into our midfield, he wouldn’t, because that is not what Dyche does.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I don’t know how anyone can bash our midfield,
We set up for our wide players to get involved in attacks and our midfield to smell danger and protect
Unfortunately we have a right side that has no pace and quality in the final third so we over use our left side to actually create opportunities
So many times has Brady been in positions that if someone had pace could have received the ball on the front foot but he cuts back

One of several clubs looking at James McCarthy who is ooc this summer says the Mail and SSN
Another signing with the future in mind ?
If accurate of course - but certainly one in the Dyche mould

The future??? He's 30. We have plenty of midfielders around that age.
I'm a bit surprised (and a little bit disappointed) that we haven't been linked to an actual right winger this window and it's now the 22nd January. I thought that was the main position we needed to look at strengthening.
Still time, I guess.....

Brownhill has the most interceptions in the league and has performed fairly consistently. Knight looks a good prospect but to come in and start? I really don’t think some people can grasp what it takes to be in a premier league starting 11.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 6:56 pmDifferent calibre of player. Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
With Cork returning to fitness I doubt we'll be signing a midfielder before the summer. The one thing we really lack is pace so I would hope for a winger and striker with that quality and then recoup some of the money by selling Vydra.

This is a joke surely. Brownhill works his socks off every game and does the task he's been asked to do. Most interceptions in the league. Absolute rubbish to suggest he's 'way below the standard required at Premier League level'. Absolute nonsense.

It’s all very well picking one stat and making him out to be a good player. Surprised you didn’t mention that he has also been dispossessed more times than any of our midfield and has the worst offensive stats of our midfield. Liverpool’s GK had better offensive stats than Brownhill last night. Not knocking the lad because I thought his defensive work was excellent.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 9:54 amBrownhill has the most interceptions in the league and has performed fairly consistently. He’s a good player but a long way off the quality of CMs we have had over the last few seasons.

“The worst offensive stats of our midfield”. That’s two wide men who you would expect to be more involved in offensive play and Westwood who takes set pieces. Not quite the same as having more interceptions than Kante.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 10:37 amIt’s all very well picking one stat and making him out to be a good player. Sadly not, it is his boring campaign to be negative about Brownhill.
Last time we had someone as obsessed with 1 player was Hibs with Taylor so on the plus side he could well have to back track in the near future

Not sure why people arnt allowed to have differing opinions to yourself. I think he is a decent defensive player but I think his all round play is not on the same level as past midfielders like Barton, Cork, Defour, Westwood. He is still young and might develop into a better all round CM but at the moment he is not in my opinion.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 11:01 am“The worst offensive stats of our midfield”. When it comes to Knight I genuinely believe he is as close to Steven Defour as we could wish for with his technical ability and if he signed I think he currently starts ahead of Brownhill.

Josh Brownhill is class to say its his first full season at this level and still relatively young i find the criticism almost as bizarre as Mcneil. Perhaps if he was a Burnley lad he would be exempt from any, thats the way things go with the locals isn't it?

Seen Vydra linked with Bournemouth as part of any deal for King, was told on Wednesday that it had been spoken about but was unlikely, although you can never say never in football...

Ironically last nights win makes any new signings less likely. We’re still ‘fragile’ on the right side of midfield but Dyche might be prepared to (risk it) and wait until summer.
On the other hand if a quality player becomes available in one of our weaker squads positions then we might just see some transfer action...

Making decisions about transfer dealings based on one result, good or bad, is a bit short sighted to say the least.Mala591 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 12:39 pmIronically last nights win makes any new signings less likely.
