Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
Firstly not taking anything away from our full backs who were also outstanding to a man, but, I think what we have all thought for a while needs saying once more.
The best unit of goalkeeper and two centre backs in the entire Premier League.

Best back 3 in the league and Taylor is excellent too. Lowton also been far better recently.

Lowton was mom for me, marked Roberston out of the game for most parts, for me that was his best performance for us

Absolutely gutted we lost Taylor again tonight. He makes such a difference in getting balls to the front 2.

Lowton was excellent tonight and this season he has improved immensely.
Ben Mee got lucky tonight he made 2 mistakes that could have cost us the game

Southgate doesn't rate them highly.

Made all the more impressive with the fact that Robertson wasn’t even there
Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
I don't rate him. Do you?
Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
Yes ben mee made one glaring mistake to let Origo through for a freebie, but can you even begin to compare that to how many blocks he makes and goals he stops?Top Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 10:33 pmLowton was excellent tonight and this season he has improved immensely.

Agreed. Robertson and Sane on his side and can’t remember him getting skinned until about the 88th minute.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 10:18 pmLowton was mom for me, marked Roberston out of the game for most parts, for me that was his best performance for us

Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
I scored Ben a 5 in the 1st half, but he turned it around in the 2nd and I gave him a 7.
He made a mistake earlier on with a short pass and then followed it up by the main bloomer, thus scored him a 5.
Liverpool just kept lobbing the ball down Tarkowski and Mee throat and made it easy for them to be fair but still a great display especially from Lowton who was outstanding as was Pieters when he came on.

Do you keep a running tally for your player ratings? Sounds like a distraction from watching the game.Top Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 8:50 amI scored Ben a 5 in the 1st half, but he turned it around in the 2nd and I gave him a 7.

Chris Bascombe a Liverpool fan and Telegraph journalist says 'If there is a better English goalkeeper than Pope who is it? Everything he does he does it with ease. Obviously not a Pickford fan then.

I’d be worried that Koop, once he’s calmed down, might relook at that display by Tarks and be trying to look at him as a third option to replace Matip.

Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
I also think Lowton has been excellent. He's also a real threat running at 'em which he's done quite a few times recent matches.
Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
They are excellent.
They are about as good as we can expect for our club.
I legitimately think Pope is in the top 10 keepers in the world.
But best in the league? Steady on lads.

Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
Socrates, it's a big statement I grant you, but I have looked at every teams keeper and two centre back combinations (if we take Liverpool as of current, not with Van Dijk and Gomez) and I genuinely wouldn't trade what we have.
There are better players than Ben Mee, but I am talking about the overall cohesion of that unit. I think it genuinely is the best.

Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
Southgate is wrong, as a unit they are England's best option, just be tried in a friendly etc. With 2 higher grade full backs and a holding MF, it would form a solid base for the exciting forwards at his disposal

Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
I also had Lowton high up there, I though he was equally outstanding as our keeper and central defenders yesterday
Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
I’m genuinely struggling to think of 9 other goalkeepers that are on Nick Pope’s level, he’s that good.
Top 5 in the world for me and it’s an absolute disgrace that he isn’t England’s first choice shot stopper.
Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
For 45 minutes they struggled with the movement of Patrick Bamford and got pulled all over the place by Antonio and Bowen last week.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 10:28 amSocrates, it's a big statement I grant you, but I have looked at every teams keeper and two centre back combinations (if we take Liverpool as of current, not with Van Dijk and Gomez) and I genuinely wouldn't trade what we have.

I’d have Ederson, Dias and Stones currently ahead of them. And that might not even be City’s best 3.

Re: Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski
Nick Pope was the only keeper on the PL POTY shortlist of 5 for last season and his save stats have him top of the tree this season. That's enough consistency to say with some conviction he's the best in the league. So how come he's not better than Pickford again Gareth?

Seems to be making a real effort (or has been told) to get further up the pitch too.Belgianclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 3:11 pmI also had Lowton high up there, I though he was equally outstanding as our keeper and central defenders yesterday
