That wouldn't alter the player's valuation. Wouldn't he be entitled to a percentage as he's not asked for a move?NickBFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 12:29 pmMaybe Stoke still owe us several million for Vokes, so the £3.5m + 1.5m might not sound so ridiculous if we're writing off what's owed for Sam. I doubt anybody outside those discussing the deal know the finer details of the deal, especially not the look at me/have enough punts and one will be right journalists aka Nixon etc. I think this one might happen, have to wait and see.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I would expect the player's agent is fully aware of any interest from other clubs and is advising him accordingly. If the interest from Arsenal is substantial, he will probably advise the player to hold off from moving to Burnley at present, as there is the likelihood of a better offer from Arsenal or another Premier League club. So even if we were to say, 'OK we will pay 10 million', getting the deal done would still be very problematic. It's too easy to criticise our recruitment efforts without recognising the real problems faced for a club like Burnley in trying to sign Premier League standard players.
It's also easy to say that we should drop the 'little old Burnley' mentality, but the fact is that this is how we are perceived by most players aspiring to play in the Premier League.

No idea re percentage, and it wouldn't alter a player's valuation but if Stoke owe us £3m for Vokes, then a £7m offer (if Stoke want £10m for Collins) wouldn't sound unreasonable. Not as simple as this but just saying the £3.5m + £1.5m offer or however it's dressed maybe isn't as ridiculous as some posters think.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:45 pmThat wouldn't alter the player's valuation. The fact that the company BET365 that owns Stoke is privately owned by the Coates family and in 2019 had revenue of 2.981 billion.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 11:54 amWhat makes you say Stoke " definitely do not need the money " ?
In 2019 Denise Coates paid 99 million in taxes, the Coates family 156 million, let that sink in they pay taxes the equivalent of our yearly income.

Isn’t Stoke run as a business rather than a hobby or indulgence. Rich people tend not to give money away, Stoke will have budgets and targets to meet.

Not got a problem with that.
I believe our squad is more than good enough to see this season out.
The winter window is never a good place to operate anyway as we know.
I think the summer window is where we shall see more of what the future may be like.

Ridiculous. That's 6 or 7 windows and counting where we haven't improved the starting 11. Yes Brownhill is decent but let's be honest both Cork and Westwood would still be playing as a pair if it wasn't for injuries.

The annoying part is that the previous board said that we would be busy in the January window, and now we seem to be out of the fire and in to the frying pan. However I do agree our squad is good, but desperately missing any depth.

Tarks, Keane, Barnes etc... all came in the January window.
It would be really really poor if we didn’t strengthen this window. We are down to bare bones with one or two injuries.

Morgan Sanson signed for Villa yesterday from Marseilles in a reported £14m deal and he apparently had wages of circa £45k a week.
There ARE quality, attainable players out there for relatively decent (and achievable) amounts of money.

I don't read it that way. He highlights the lack of activity across the PL. Only 6 transfers from 20 teams. I think he talks a lot of sense, especially with the Covid situation which is costing clubs an eyewatering loss of income.
Hopefully I'm right. I really do believe we will strengthen the squad.

To be fair, Alan Pace did say in his first ‘unveiling’ on YouTube etc that his first target was a successful transfer window and that Sean Dyche will have our backing. I can see why people thought we’d be making signings, I did to be honest also.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 4:01 pmSD has been saying it, now AP says the same thing. The difference being that Burnley is still playing catch up-Brownhill & Stephens the sum of the last 3 windows-the latter is not even a regular. Other clubs in the bottom half of the PL did make a number of signings during these same windows, so arguably need additional players less urgentlyZom Zom wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 4:02 pmI don't read it that way. If my maths is right we will have a senior squad of 13 players by the summer if the contract situation stays as it is. Can anyone confirm if that is right? Surely it has to be more than 13 senior players.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 4:22 pmTo be fair, Alan Pace did say in his first ‘unveiling’ on YouTube etc that his first target was a successful transfer window and that Sean Dyche will have our backing. Let’s give it 5 more days, but we urgently need additions this window.

Ah well, everyone. We go with what we have. We believe in the players we've got here. We're not market leaders, you know. There were a couple of maybes, but they went elsewhere. We were active, but we can't throw millions at it. We were trying to affect a few situations but you'll have to ask the chairman about the finance.
We'll have a better window next time. I just know it.

People well within their rights to think we'd be making at least one signing who would walk quickly into the match day squad. On a positive note our squad is in its best shape this season.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
It was the line where he put "I have been disappointed that we haven't been able to add to the squad, but I can assure you that is not for lack of trying". He could have added the word "currently" to show we were still active, but he didn't. There is an air of finality about that sentence in my view. Hopefully I am wrong!Zom Zom wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 4:02 pmI don't read it that way. He highlights the lack of activity across the PL. Only 6 transfers from 20 teams. It is Taio, agreed.
Let’s say Ben Mee or Dwight McNeil etc do their ACL tonight though, we’d be knackered. Nobody disputes the quality of our first eleven but outside of that you end up with the type of form we showed at the start of this season. It’s a huge gamble that has already relegated us from this league once (Dean Marney).

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
A bad window is one where the vast majority of our rivals strengthen and we do not. If none of our rivals strengthen and neither do we, that is not a bad window. To spend money at a time where there is no value and no dire need would be reckless and very risky. Of the handful of signing made in the premier league, I don’t see one which will affect our chances of staying up. The squad is more than good enough to stay up this season.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I've given up on it now. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite us when we have to try and find 6-7 players in one window.

Perhaps Pace is just simply stating that we are still searching but won’t do anything stupid just for the sake of doing it?
We all know it’s difficult in January, and with only a handful of deals done in the premier league thus far, this would signify that most clubs feel the same way.

Why don't we utilize the loan market? Is it simply Dyche doesn't see any use in loan players? I guess he doesn't have a great record with loans.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I know, sorry, I wasn't doubting that we'd need that many - I was trying to convey my disbelief that we could ever manage that many incomings.
We'd need around 20 windows at the rate we operate at.
