Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
I know I shouldn't listen to Talksport but I sometimes succumb after we have had a good result. and this topic is what we are promised after 6pm today ! Obviously just phone-in bait totally without any actual substance but will be interesting to see what is said.

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
Contract runs out in 2023, as a minimum for a player who scores double figures each season I'd be saying £40 million.
Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
If Lewis Richardson turns out to be as good as many think he will be we've got an ideal replacement - so get him sold!

Listening now... never heard so much rubbish!
Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
I thought he had been given a new contract earlier this season
In which case I am amazed that is only until 2023 - Kevin Long has got the same length of deal !!
And not even any option to extend ?

Lewis Richardson is nothing like Chris Wood. Plays a totally different style.

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
Chris Wood is brilliant for Burnley, but very few (if any) teams will give him the type of service he thrives on. He suits our style of play, he would (IMO) look a fish out of water being expected to run onto through balls, outpace his man and any of the other expectations of the clubs who would have the money to buy him off us. He’s 30 this year, has another two years on his deal and seems to be thoroughly enjoying his time at Burnley. I cannot see anyone coming in for him.

Wood is 29 now, an old fashioned target man, not many teams play like us, would be ideal for Newcastle, but they have Wilson, or West Ham.

Had a quick listen and came to the conclusion that Talk Shite is still as dreadful as it’s always been.

I heard them advertising it as a topic for their show.
Might have tuned in had it not been the Barnsley gob shite and his equally inept pal leading the discussion!

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
Why on earth would we want to sell him ? Unless we can buy a 24 year old who is as good and costs half the price

We don't have "big money" to replace Chris, Dwight, or Tarky. Far better to try and keep them.

Chris Wood as our new Sam Vokes. Yes, Woody had a decent spell at Leeds, but he took an awful lot of criticism from the Elland Road faithful during that time. We’ve seen his qualities, improved him immensely and more importantly, given him a home to enjoy his development. As is so often the case, a great match for him and us. Would be thrilled if he was given n extended deal.

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
I'd be very surprised if anyone was interested, as noted above few teams play to his strengths like we do, and for a target man his hold up play is pretty poor. There's a reason Woodsy is 29 and playing for us, he's not rounded enough to be in a better team.
But I like that, we take limited footballers and use them to their strengths, its the very trademark of our success.

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
His turn around this season has been exceptional.
I thought Talksport spoke quite well about wood. Highlighted his strengths and Durham in particular was very complimentary of his ability.
I think West Ham would be the ideal place for Wood.
However I think he could also be a valuable back up for Spurs.

He was and they didn't.
Leeds fans I know all speak very highly of both Wood and Taylor and have been pleased to see them do well. That might have changed slightly now Leeds are in direct competition with us and have become the better of the two teams

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
Leeds fans weren't happy when we signed him and they suddenly tried telling everyone how rubbish he was and that he'd never score many goals in the PL.
They were definitely bitter about that transfer, same with Taylor.
I think a lot of it was because of their low opinion of Burnley.

Quite a few on here made similar comments about Bamford questioning his ability to score goals in the PL.

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
I listened to TS yesterday for the first time in a while having caught the trail about Wood. Durham pretends not to be a fan of Dyche and ended up having a pop for his team not performing better with the players we had. No credit for signing Wood that I heard.
A Burnley fan texted to ask why did Goughie hate Burnley and he said "I don't hate Burnley I love Dyche and wish he would get an opportunity at a bigger club" Great defence to the claim you don't like Burnley yer Yorkshire two hat.

Durham n Gough talking about the ability of a footballer, there's a show to miss.
Amazed anyone listens to the bellend Durham, it is funny though reading his comments now and again. You would never imagine he is just about the biggest arse kisser of any of the media when at the club, it is almost like his mouthy radio persona is all an act.

Me too but, sadly, it's in the nature of Durham and his cohorts to turn around today and say the total opposite. Talksport is contrived, London centric, tabloid radio on a loop, whoever the presenter is. I'm convinced that Durham and Gough decide what the subject is for the day (generally the same as one they discussed a month ago and the month before that), decide which of them is gonna take up which side of the argument and go from there.

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
It's certainly been better in the past couple of games, but it's not a strong point for a player of his stature. Dyche even mentioned it in the last post match interview(s).

Re: Chris Wood "Big money move this summer" discussion
Why do Burnley fans always want to sell any player who shows a glimpse of being ok?
Why don't we just think of strengthening our threadbare squad?

This is what TS thrives on, one big win and SD is the topic for much discussion this morning...
"could he manage Spurs?"
