Pub recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good pub with garden for a tasty lunch and decent pint? Anywhere around Burnley / Pendle region.

Not a bad suggestion regarding the AA a decent pint of TT boltmaker awaits, the marquees outside are very quickly booked up & the picnic tables are on a first come first served basis, I can’t vouch for the food I’ve always used the place as a pit stop passing through on business, I believe they start serving/open around midday.

I found that. I think it used to be ok years ago, but may as well be a Harvester now (actually they are better)

On the food, I went there the other day & sat on picnic benches which have a more restricted menu than the terrace, but available for walk ins. Had the halloumi fries, squid and chorizo plates to share for starters and all were amazing! Then a cheese & bacon burger, which was also fantastic.

Tiny Rebel Club Tropicana IPA to wash it all down.

That is very true. Such a shame as a nice pub in a good location otherwise.

A crying shame about the Ram actually. It’s possibly in the best possible setting if any pub around Burnley, truly beautiful, but it’s a pity about the average (and that’s being kind) food. Yes the beer is expensive but it’s hand-pulled and perfectly acceptable. Ripe for an entrepreneur, but then it would probably be much too poncey.

My parents live up that neck of the woods. Met up for a pint with them a couple of weeks ago and I'm fairly sure the pub isn't doing food at the moment. I think they're waiting until they can fully open. Good pint though.

Stef and Laura had the Hare and Hounds in Padiham a couple of years ago before taking that on. He's Real Ale mad and keeps in great nick. I haven't had chance to get to the Burnley one yet.

It certainly shows. It wasn't my turn to drive, so I jumped at the chance to sample what they had on draft. I bet it's a CAMRA pub or soon will be.

I'll gladly pay good money for real ale that's kept in great nick. Those days are gone where I'd suffer crap beer. You know what I mean - you're out for a couple of beers and someone says; 'let's have one in so-and-so, their ale is rubbish, but the pub is ok'. I just don't do that any more. My free-time and money is much more important to me these days.

Won't be an issue at all after 17th. Indoors open, won't be an issue.

Went to the Fence Gate last week, really well laid out and organised.

They won a Camra award for best pub in the area while at the Padiham H&H. They used to have 7 or 8 ales on at a time, which is a lot when you only have 3 days to sell the Barrel.

For years, I've been saying The Ram would be an absolute goldmine, seven days a week, if it wasn't part of a pub chain and served up food to a similar standard as The Staff. It doesn't have to be fine dining, just honest in-house cooked food made with good produce.

I wouldnt eat in the Ram if it was free, I refuse to pay for food in a restaurant that I wouldn’t eat at home for a few pound. Awful food and has been for almost 10 years now, granted I’ve only given it three chances since.

Like has been said above, drive down towards Cornholme and try the Staff of life or the Glen View which both serve quality food.

Not pretentious either like the Ram and it’s wanna be clientele!

One of Pendles best kept secrets is The Bridge in Barrowford. No bookings required. Fantastic real ale and a menu to die for. They also offer takeaway. I can highly recommend the Surf 'n' Turf with three times cooked chips and also the Lamb Balti that was last weekends special. Its a shame that they have such limited outdoor space.

Staff was my local before we moved back to Burnley four years ago. Landlord Tim (or 'Moffitt') is a character, funny, well read and a bloody good businessman... but a proper landlord first
