I presume Richardson is injured but the hopes of Max Thompson making the first team must be waning? Always seems to be sub now?

18 mins: Burnley 1 Middlesbrough 0, Mellon crashing one in from right hand side on off bottom of far post.

We’ve been by far the better side.

Mellon obviously grabbing a lot of the attention this season but seems like Tucker has really come on too, I was always a bit underwhelmed last season but he's impressed me a lot this time around.

Tucker crossed it but it deflected massively off a defender but we think Mellon might just have got the last touch. But it’s not Tucker’s goal.

Gitau got a yellow card just after his own goal. How on earth he’s just avoided another I’ve no idea. Shocking challenge on Dodgson.

Still 2-0.

Is it really appropriate for the club to publicise the medical/health status of our young players?

I don't think so. We can usually guess when they are injured. They don't play ;)

Could it not be that the club now feel it’s more appropriate to keep private matters private though?

Why on earth though?

I don’t think it’s the academy, more a lack of info coming from the media dept.

I can understand the injury status of senior professional players going into the public domain - although even that is debatable, but I’m not sure this is appropriate for academy players, some of whom are children.

If I was off work ill for whatever reason, I wouldn’t be too keen on my company putting it on their website.

I dont think its unreasonable to be told about injuries amongst the U23s, most of whom have been in and around the first team squad.

I know Richardson is an adult, I was replying to a post saying that we don’t publicise the injuries of our young players and giving a valid reason why this may be the case.

What is so odd about my workplace analogy though? Should any employer be able to publicise the private health status of their employees? I think it’s a perfectly sensible question.

We are talking about U23 players here - likes of Mancini, Harker, Richardson. It’s of interest to people about our players.

And I’ve no idea why you chose to mention your own work place.

Not 18 until December. He looks a prospect.
But let's not forget that the careers of these young men can easily stall.

The player in question was Richardson and the under 23s.

No your employer shouldn't be able to put your private health status on their website...without your consent. But it's completely different and I can't imagine why they'd want to in any case.

You do have an idea because I explained why I mentioned my own work place;

'Should any employer be able to publicise the private health status of their employees?'

I think the answer to that question is no, you may disagree which is obviously fine, but there's no need to be so dismissive of my perfectly sensible question.

This may or may not be the reason why we don't get as much injury news as we used to. It's notable that we also don't get specific updates from the manager, just vagueness. I expect the club, like any other employer, knows that they have to tread carefully with such issues.

But other players in the U23's are under 18, therefore children.

So you've agreed that my employer shouldn't make my private health matters public. Do football clubs operate under different data protection rules?

I haven't agreed - I only agreed if it was done without consent.

I've already told you I know Richardson is an adult and that I was responding to a post stating that we don't publicise the injury status of our young players.

Maybe I am over-thinking it. To be honest I was looking for an open-minded discussion about whether the health status of footballers should be made public knowledge, although it looks like I've chosen the wrong place.
