BEN MEE joins Twitter
But why?
To promote good!
To promote positive change!
To encourage dialogue!
He’s everything we ask for (and more in a captain) and like Tom before him, he represents himself, the club and our town, brilliantly!
https://twitter.com/ben6mee/status/1459 ... 83364?s=21
What a credit.
Now for goodness sake, Ben: find your pen and extend your contract!!

I'm not convinced that Social Media platforms are the way to go for footballers (or anyone else for that matter). One bad pass and ****wits will be all over your tw*tter account like a rash !

Re: BEN MEE joins Twitter
Ben Mee is quite simply an outstanding footballer, a superb leader of men who sets the highest standards, and an even better captain and representative of our great club. Surely that can’t be in any doubt, especially after his post match comments at the etihad after the plane debacle.
Personally, I don’t bother with antisocial media, but Ben Mee can do what he wants, I’m sure he is robust enough to deal with whatever *********** comes his way on Twitter. And even if just one person benefits from whatever he shares, then he’s done a good job. I’m very proud that he plays for us.

This is completely understandable, but if you actually take notice of who you follow, block the absolute loon bins and make sure your account is pretty balanced, then its perfectly okay to use.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 12:17 pmThe first thing he should do is come off Twitter

Re: BEN MEE joins Twitter
Don't always agree with Ben Mee, we've heard a lot of his politics lately, but it's perfectly fine for anyone to give their opinions. I've got a lot of time for Ben Mee, even when I disagree with him he is articulate.
We should look to understand and engage with all the opinions and views out there.
As the OP says, we should look to open up debate and allow free discussion whereby the best ideas are allowed to flourish of their own merits - not because opposing views have been silenced or decried impermissable.
Opinions matter. All of them.

Absolutely baffled as to why Twitter has become the barometer of all opinion. For the most part it's a cesspool of toxic entitled gobsh1tes.

First thing you should do is change your settings so anyone without an e-mail address or a profile pic post don't alert your notifications
Second thing you should do is check the first ten posts of anyone who wants to follow you
Works pretty well
You have to follow some people with completely different opinions and viewpoints to you, or its just an echo chamber

he'll be inundated by Villa fans blaming him for Wesley's injury, they appear on every other Burnley post. Daft decision to go there unless he turns off the ability to comment

Re: BEN MEE joins Twitter
May I make an interjection?
Twitter can of course be an unpleasant place, but let’s just get something perfectly straight here….on this forum alone, there are some utterly vile comments posted from Burnley fan to Burnley fan. Thankfully, comments are moderated, unlike on other social media platforms, which are much more open.
Having acknowledged that, my point was that OUR club captain has made a CHOICE that he believes is a good one, as a way of promoting GOOD.
Ben Mee wants to open up and offer support about his experiences as a father, after bringing a premature daughter in the world.
ONLY ONE person has chosen to applaud that so far, with most others INSTANTLY jumping on the ‘Twitter is a bad place’ train. Yes we’re all allowed an opinion but does it not concern people that people, by default, have seen the negatives in what Ben Mee is trying to make a positive situation out of? This in my opinion, is systemic of THE Social Networking Dilemma! We need to look at ourselves, our attitudes and our conduct more.
Ben, for me, is a superb role model and vitally, regardless of your opinions of Twitter, if he helps just one or two dads like himself, who are experiencing the difficulties and emotional ups and downs that likely come with the premature birth of a child, then surely that’s a good thing, isn’t it?
I’ll leave it at that

Generally because they crave the attention/ approval of others (anyone, actually - most of whom they will never know/meet) tbat they obviously don't get enough of in their day-to-day existence. There're plenty on this board.

Re: BEN MEE joins Twitter
The secret to Twitter is not to click on tweets to see the comments underneath, because Twitter’s algorithm encourages the cesspit, often the top comment will be abusive or stupid with few likes yet somehow still sits at the top of 1,000 replies. Probably somebody called “London Tom” posting from a Moscow or Shanghai basement.
I tend to follow news reporters of all persuasions and a selection of sports reporters too. I find some engage with me and some don’t when I want to offer a respectable viewpoint on their tweet or article. The irony would be if those people took my above advice they wouldn’t see the comments in order to reply to them.
I don’t follow anyone tweeting too frequently or with “clickbait”, which unfortunately means the club account is now out.
I’d also say that I find out far more on Twitter than in the newspapers. Some of the blogs /thinktanks have some incredible reporting or analysis, far better than on Sky, Times, Telegraph, BBC etc.
Great for Ben that he wants to share his experiences on there, his family experience in particular, but hopefully he’ll keep it to non-football and non-woke topics or it will just encourage a “pile on” and that is a distraction he won’t need or desire.

I think ‘outstanding’ is stretching it a bit. He’s a solid player that’s been good for us, as we have for him, but I think it’s telling that he hasn’t had the attention from other clubs like Tarkowski has, and Keane did before him.bobinho wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 1:32 pmBen Mee is quite simply an outstanding footballer, a superb leader of men who sets the highest standards, and an even better captain and representative of our great club. Re: BEN MEE joins Twitter
Agree, but my fear is how informed is Ben Mee? He is entitled to his opinions and indeed share them but he will potentially be tweeting experts who have a much wider understanding than himself. I, strictly control who regularly posts on my Twitter and rarely offer opinion based contributions purely as I don’t want real experts blowing me out of the water. It can be a very unforgiving and dangerous place to voice half baked theory, even without the football related abuse.
