It wasn’t exactly must win, but now Saturday has gone from must not lose to must win.
A lot of pressure now on Saturdays game.

We get ready for the Championship and players like Brownhill and Bambi on Ice will be closer to their level....apparently

The bottom 3 have won 2 games all season.
How boring and bland for the league.

A draw a game will leave us on 35 points at the end of the season - that might be enough

Re: So that’s it…. What now?
Bottom 3 have actually won 3 games all season, Norwich 2, Burnley 1, Newcastle 0, and despite all 3 being on fairly decent runs we are all finding victories hard to come by, which just highlights how vital Newcastle-Burnley is in the grand scheme of things, because there is a danger of a gap emerging between the teams in the relegation zone, and Southampton who currently sit 16th, 5 points is effectively 2 wins to make up, which when you are a team that's struggling to win feels like a mountain to climb, it's by no means irretrievable especially with 2/3 of the season remaining, but we can't afford to allow that gap to grow, hence why we should be looking at 6 points against Newcastle and Watford.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 9:47 pmThe bottom 3 have won 2 games all season.

I just mean, over a season, 13 games with 1 win and 10 points, has anyone survived after having those stats after that many games?Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 9:52 pmI think so.

Looking like less than a point per game all season.

One team I think had 12 points after 19 matches and survived comfortably. Can't remember who it was though.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 10:01 pmI just mean, over a season, 13 games with 1 win and 10 points, has anyone survived after having those stats after that many games?

Agree it looks bleak on the face of it but "par" for staying up is a point a game which we are unfortunate not to have and is by no means irretrievable. I keep telling myself this when the darkness threatens to descend !ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 10:01 pmI just mean, over a season, 13 games with 1 win and 10 points, has anyone survived after having those stats after that many games?

Re: So that’s it…. What now?
We were in a far worse spot back in 18/19 campaign, 12 points from 19 games, and yet still comfortably survived, I suppose the major difference this time is other teams are picking up points at a healthy rate, and it might well need 37-38 points minimum to secure our PL status for another year.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 10:01 pmI just mean, over a season, 13 games with 1 win and 10 points, has anyone survived after having those stats after that many games?

Not long to the window.
I'm sure our new owners won't want us to get relegated, I anticipate serious transfer activity.

Were we to win our game in hand we'd be 3 points behind 11th place.
We've lost no more games than 6th placed Wolves.
Must win games my arse.

Re: So that’s it…. What now?
I don't disagree with you LC, however tonight was our 7th draw in 13 games, put simply turn 2 or 3 of those draws into victories and we'd be comfy in mid-table, so we aren't a million miles away from hauling ourselves out of trouble, the key will be beating those sides around us, as we've shown we can nick points away to the better sides, and despite a tough away schedule we've only lost at City and the 2 Merseyside clubs, so hopefully once we travel to the sides lower in the table we'll be able to pick up a win or two, as well naturally as improving our form at TM.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 10:11 pmStill only one win away from escaping the bottom three

Great point. Don't personally think the midfield is the total problem, our strikers are generally very poor.
We need more squad depth though. Today would have been Stevens chance but he just isn't fit enough.

Exactly, its a good point only 1 defeat in last 8 ( away to City) you just have to keep chipping away, and when you can't win you make sure you don't lose we may have to do the same Saturday.

Re: So that’s it…. What now?
I thought an away point against a top 6 side packed with real international quality wasn't bad at all. The game was extremely open and we handled them alright. Unbeaten in 5 i think? and loads of points up for grabs in Dec. We've a fully fit squad and should be able to bring in a proper midfielder,so there's all to play for IMO. In fact it's almost staggering that the surrender monkeys are already out.

Find two central midfielders, and a striker who can actually control a ball - any ball

Even if the cash isn't there I reckon they'll borrow enough.
I'm basically saying they won't let lack of immediate cash cost us via relegation.
A blind man on a galloping horse can see what we need to refresh the squad.
TBH, a decent right winger wouldn't be a bad addition

Re: So that’s it…. What now?
Playing well so far, decisions have gone against us, like they always do!! However hopefully, if they even up the dropped points certainly like the ones against Norwich, and perhaps we really don't look that bad.
I can honestly say I think we will be fine. Should have beat Leeds (lapse of concentration at the end), Norwich (did a classic Burnley away day and Krul should have walked) Leicester (thanks VAR) and Palace (Vyds should have done better at the end) and it makes a massive difference, yes we could / should have lost at Chelsea but you see my point.
Looking forward to taking my lads on their first trip to Newcastle on Saturday, hopefully coming home with the points!!

Being honest, I thought Wolves looked as toothless as us tonight and they also could not score against Norwich (just like us)

Re: So that’s it…. What now?
That wasn’t one swallow though that was a rock solid defence, and a good solid defensive point. Wolves might not be running at full speed right now but they are constantly getting in niggles and know all the continental professional tricks and use them. Eye gouging foot left in etc. Dean Smith was exactly what Norwich needed and he’s tightened them up quick sticks. I don’t now expect Norwich to be relegated either.
Burnley are comfortably mid table regarding performances for me. If we can get some fresh legs into midfield and a better striker option off the bench we do it at a canter.
Re: So that’s it…. What now?
What we need is another 26/27 points from our remaining 25 games, doesn’t really matter which games they come from.
Re: So that’s it…. What now?
What now? There will be another thread tomorrow saying the Newcastle game is a must win.
Re: So that’s it…. What now?
We have 10 points from 13 games, ideally to hit 38 points at the end of the season that currently makes us just 3 points behind the curve, win at Newcastle 13 points from 14 and we are almost on track for a 37/38 point total. That is realistic and if you look at the teams that are only 1 or 2 points ahead of the curve at the moment then come April some will have fallen behind it.

Re: So that’s it…. What now?
The Magpies have drawn with all of the Bottom 6 teams they have faced thus far (Southampton, Leeds, Watford & Norwich) as have the Clarets (Leeds, Norwich & Southampton) so the MUST WIN becomes a MOST LIKELY DRAW as far as these 2 teams are concerned.
Re: So that’s it…. What now?
In our first season in the Prem under Dyche I seem to recall we drew plenty and the general consensus was that we were playing well. Unfortunately in the end it wasn't good enough, it sounds obvious but if we're going to stay up we have to put some wins on the board and sharpish.
Re: So that’s it…. What now?
Newcastle will be a lot more nervous than us sat, no wins, home to a team round them and a massive expectant crowd.
Just right for a team like ours, the longer the game goes without them scoring the more i think a claret victory!

The one thing I'm fairly confident about is that we won't come close to losing the same number of games.

WE could lose tomorrow and still climb out of the bottom 3 by beating Watford in a couple of weeks
