That was a very late flag
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
That’ll be a goal, not offside, Liverpool played it.
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Hopefully a goal.

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Madrid doing what Madrid do, soaking up the pressure then hitting the sucker punch
Waiting for VAR
Waiting for VAR
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Got away with that IMO.
Re: Good luck Liverpool!

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
So a deflection means it's offside, a "play" by a liverpool player means he's onside..

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Just causes so much crap does VAR.
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
There were 2 Liverpool players playing him on. I don't understand?
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
That's a new 1 on me.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:23 pmSo a deflection means it's offside, a "play" by a liverpool player means he's onside..
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
That wasn’t VAR causing that, it was genuinely difficult to see what happened.

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
If behind the keeper, need to be 2 defending players between the attacker and the goal
VVD had stepped up and was in front of Benzema with only Robertson between him and the goal

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Bizarre offside.
Liverpool player touches it forward on to a Liverpool player who slides in and plays backwards (deemed a deflection) and they class it as offside? How?

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
I never knew that rule. I thought offside rule only applied to defenders.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:25 pmHe was behind the Liverpool keeper so technically offside according to the commentary

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
If goalkeeper is out of goal there needs to be 2 defenders behind goalie to keep an attacking player onside if attacking player is behind goalie.

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
I knew he was offside with only one defender behind the keeper but astounded it wasn't given after the ball hit the two Liverpool players - did the Madrid player even touch it ?

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
As per usual this will end up being a late Liverpool win through a Phil Neal penalty.

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Refs in all English divisions have let a lot more go for the last 3 months. Must be under instruction for them all to bring it in together. The offence that grates with me is the barge into the back but it seems to be legit now.

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
So even though it comes off one Liverpool player onto another and then to Benzema he's still offside
That's messed up
That's messed up
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
It has to be a deliberate play by the defender for it to be onside A defection means it's offside, so they decided it deflected off a Liverpool playerQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:27 pmBizarre offside.

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Unless they think the Madrid player touched it. If he sent it forward it would be offside, wouldn't it?

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
The RM player played it forward before the double deflections and neither of them was a deliberate attempt to play the ball.
Offside was correct.
Offside was correct.
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Walton: “it’s actually quite simple” and the proceeds to confuse matters further. That was never an off side!

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
That offside is baffling as owt. So if nots deliberate( ie a deflection) then it's offside?

But I'm pretty sure we have just seen history being made.
Never in the history of the game has a goal been chalked off for offside when 2 defenders have played the ball.

A player comes sliding in to win the ball and it’s an accidental deflection - hmmm

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
How would that work?
You’d then have 10 defenders so nobody would be offside
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Didn't Konate deliberately play it? He stretched and hit it into Fabinho in an attempt to clear it.

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
If there had of been 2 defenders behind Allison and Benzema the goal would've stood.
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
The first Liverpool defender (Konate) went to play the ball too and played it against his teammateGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:34 pmSo even though it comes off one Liverpool player onto another and then to Benzema he's still offside

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Had we still been in the premier league and we were the defending team in that instance against one of the top teams I’d put good money on that being given as a goal against us.

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Just a very very poor decision. A legitimate goal ruled out against Liverpool. Who'd have thought it?
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Without any concern of losing your bet, could have placed your house, pension, savings and earnings of future generations of your family on that!
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
OK, so it doesn't matter which team played the ball if the last touch was the deflection?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 9:40 pmBut that doesn’t count because he’s played it back. So it’s based on the Fabinho touch which was not deliberate.
I'm learning alot tonight! ( I think)

Re: Good luck Liverpool!
Crazy. So, if the muddle and deflection between the two Liverpool defenders resulted in the ball rolling into the net without Benzema involvement would it be chalk off as being an OG because it was not deliberate play by the Liverpool players? Seems like some new rules/interpretations are being made tonight.
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
So, a keeper, with one defender and an attacker behind him kicks the ball forward, it inadvertently hits another defender and goes back to the striker (in an offside position) who pops the ball in the net. Is the striker offside?
Re: Good luck Liverpool!
I think that's how I now understand it ?
