For me, much better than I expected. Comes across so well in interviews as well.

Re: Kompany thoughts so far....
Great use of the loan market. Some good transfers (no bad ones so far but plenty still too early to say either way). Pleased he's not reluctant to use the experienced players he inherited despite his clear focus on youth. Pleasing style of football. Has so far made some odd subs. Speaks really well although I must admit it's not something I care about.
So far, really impressed. Only question mark for me is what happens to this team/style of play in the Premier League next season but I'm certainly not letting it worry me.

Re: Kompany thoughts so far....
A completely different style of football whilst not actually deviating away from those good qualities that Dyche had as a manager.
We'll look back on Kompany being with us and wonder just how we managed to have him at our club, I feel he is destined for big things.
After getting us back to the Premier League of course.

Superb! For someone of his status in the game there’s refreshingly no ego. I really enjoy hearing his interviews. He seems to get what the club is about, its current status, and has a solid plan for the future. I think the recruitment process has been brilliant, refreshing and totally the right direction for us.
I really look forward to the games now, which I haven’t for a couple of years. I think the football is excellent and when it clicks we’ll start scoring goals a lot more freely.

I still have to pinch myself that he is our manager. I still think back to those that said ‘who are we going to get’ in their arguments and raise a smile.

Great so far. Extremely honest and calls games how he sees them. To get the team performing in the way they have so quickly as pretty impressive too. There will be more than a few suitors should we finish in the top 6 this season (even if we don’t actually go up). I just hope he would stick out to season 2 like he’s said.

Re: Kompany thoughts so far....
What has impressed me most is how he has constantly made clear that anything the team does is instilled by values that were already at the club. He could easily have walked in as a big name, dominated the club, made it all about him, but he’s done nothing of the sort. I think he has a bit to learn regarding in game tactics and we are still searching for the right pieces of the puzzle sometimes in terms of starting XI but to completely rejuvenate the style of play like he has allied with the player turnover has been fantastic. I’ve been very impressed.
Refreshingly honest in his interviews too. Doesn’t fall back on easy excuses.

Re: Kompany thoughts so far....
Impressed by how quickly he's got us functioning as a cohesive unit given all the new arrivals.
And the style of footy is refreshing to see.
Youth has been given a chance, but equally he's realised we still need the core of experience if we're to enjoy a successful campaign and gain promotion.
The Coventry game shows he's quickly learning what we need in this league, and he wasn't reluctant to shore things up at the back to see out the narrow win.

Re: Kompany thoughts so far....
Manner and general personality - Excellent. Honest, transparent and more humorous than I had expected.
Style of football - At times superb to watch, at others lacking in tempo and incision.
Start to the season - Stronger than I had expected, and we should be top of the table arguably with the points lost in the last moments against teams we've dominated.
Tactical decisions - Some poor substitutions which have been (for me) partially responsible for the points lost from winning positions.
Transfers - Cullen, Muric, Harwood-Bellis, Beyer, Tella, Benson, Vitinho, Maatsen, Bastien, Churlinov and Zaroury have all shown to varying degrees that they have a lot to offer us and they have not cost us much at all comparative to what we have brought in. Crucially, they are all of a good age with a lot of them having the ability to grow in value with the club. Twine, McNally, Egan-Riley and a few others we cannot comment on for various reasons - McNally at 22/23 not getting a kick or a mention is perhaps the only concerning one so far, although concern is probably too strong a word. Overall, excellent use of the market.
I couldn't give him less than 9/10 so far, considering the job he had to undertaken on his arrival. Consistency is there in performances, we just need to see more of a cutting edge to kill teams off.

I think he has been impressive with the caveat that it is early days yet....!
He seems adaptive albeit Roberts played for 2 or 3 games than most on here would have liked.
Bit disappointed we haven't made more of Bastien. Suffered from the loss of Twine and perhaps a pacy striker, which may cost him in the long run but overall the football is great and we are in the top 6 with obvious problems he is trying to resolve like the lack of goals in too many games.

Re: Kompany thoughts so far....
He's done really well, the results speak for themselves. I wish we were more positive and the players were allowed to express themselves a bit more, but one defeat all season isn't to be sniffed at.
My biggest gripes are players pretending to be seriously injured. I mean I get the whole 'game management' thing, we were very good at it under Sean Dyche. This weekend though, Tella went down holding his ankle as if he was going to be out for the rest of the season. I just don't like it. Give the ref an opportunity to give a foul, but don't roll around like a massive fanny.
He made some comments durning the O'Hare transfer speculation too. I like his honest approach, but to me he was too close to trying to unsettle a player for my liking.

West Brom's 2 freebies which will see them finish above us.
The same West Brom with 1 win in 13, 3rd bottom and potted their manager.

What this guy has achieved in just a few weeks is nothing short of incredible. The only downside is I think, as someone has suggested, he is destined for bigger things. His style (City/Pep style) is what top clubs look for. Mark my words in time he will be a top manager and, as a City mate thinks, may be learning his trade to go back to City when Pep decides he’s had enough. He will manage a top club before Dyche ever does, of that I am certain.

Yes and that’s why I said he hasn’t achieved anything impressive so far. He’s had an above average start, the big test will come in the month, we face a lot of our promotion rivals. That will be a good indication of his competence.jedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 11:19 amI agree, but the thread is titled ‘Kompany - Thoughts so far’.

Re: Kompany thoughts so far....
His appointment was a massive gamble for both himself and Pace. He was obviously tempted by Pace's offer to have a free run at recruitment and the funds to do so. I must confess I was a little apprehensive as to what to expect and when I attended the Shrewsbury friendly both myself, the fans around me and the Shrewsbury PA guy hadn't a clue who was actually on the pitch at any one time
Therefore the way he has moulded this squad into the semblance of a team has been nothing short of remarkable and long may it continue. We haven't seen this team really perform yet as they are still a tad reluctant to go for it but I'm sure it's not far away.

True, but he says more than previous managers would. Dyche would never have mentioned the debt for instance, whereas VK is fine telling us where we are and being upfront about it.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 12:39 pmHe has a very clear 'tell' when he is 'avoiding the truth' during interviews, which suggests he has deep morals

Pluses: Loads and far too numerous to mention.
Minus: Considering he was one of the greatest defenders of the modern era, we don't seem to always defend very well.

The one thing I'm worried about is, if we have built a model on buying young and cheap, improving them and making a big profit?
We are playing a system that doesn't make any players stand out that much. We don't seem to have players in team of the weeks or social media best championship X1s?

Re: Kompany thoughts so far....
Last season, going on the Turf felt more of a chore than something to be enjoyed given the style of play, mood, results etc.
Now I can’t wait to go on games. Kompany has brought back the buzz. He seems to get the club and has already struck up a close bond with fans (not that Dyche didn’t, but things felt stagnated and the change has been refreshing).
Hopefully relegation proves to be a blessing in disguise.
