IN MEMORIAM 2022

Post by ClaretTony » Sat Jan 14, 2023 11:27 am

The long list of names of those connected with our club can be found at the link. A minute's silence will be observed ahead of today's game.

A few on there that I know and for this board - we can now pay our respects to Bobby Dinsdale (spadesclaret).

One of the biggest pieces of solace I ever got when our son was born sleeping was putting his name on the list in 2012. I hope and pray the parents of the children on the list this year feel the same at 2.55pm. Heartbreaking to see.

RIP Clarets.

My boy was on there in Jan 2017-I didnt attend- just couldn't given the years we sat where i still sit. Lost parents friends a wife but losing children, and Al was 42, leaves the biggest scar and it never seems to stop breaking down and weeping from time to time.
RIP all those who have passed in 2022.

RIP
Sadly know a few names on the list.

Stayed on the concourse, knew my four year old wouldn't understand why everyone had to be quiet for a minute. Wish some of the away fans had done the same

I sit with a heavy heart reading about the loss felt by fellow Clarets. May your memories be filled only by the good times.

Do all clubs do this? If not does the club contact the team we play first in January to make it known to away supporters; might help to avoid the embarrassment I imagine many decent Coventry supporters felt on Saturday

I’m sure most clubs do it

I’ve just check Coventry City and ironically they did theirs at the game against us in October

Very few when we started with the first v Palace in Jan 2013, but there is an ever increasing number of clubs doing it now. It was Southampton who I saw doing it on a TV game that prompted us to ask our club about it. I recall being at Man City and Villa when they held theirs and incredibly at Coventry this season although that was applause during half time.

Very sobering reading. Like you Tony and others of our vintage there were quite a few I knew on that list. Thanks to everyone involved

A minute’s applause is a positive way of expressing our appreciation for the people who have passed away and their friends and families.

It also doesn’t allow the unfortunate misunderstandings or deliberately obnoxious behaviour that we witnessed on Saturday. That in turn doesn’t lead to the upsets and anxiety caused at that moment which then festers for the next few hours and most likely results in the occasional violent incidents as people leave the ground.

Whilst I agree, the answer is for people to just behave and be respectful, it annoys me that we have to think that way because we know idiots think they’re above everyone else.

I can't say my thoughts were very positive when I read the young ages of some of the Clarets on the board.
3,4 year olds even a 5 month old.

Yes I had a lump in my throat reading all the names on that list particularly youngsters. Hope you realise I didn’t mean it in that sense.

Yeah I know you are only trying for solutions.

Just saying I don't think it would be suitable for that as it can be quite upsetting.

For an ex player who passes away in his 80s, the applause is fine.
