Would he leave?
He has a young family and seems to be settled where he is. He also appears to be loving his football now. Plus he's back in the PL.

I would he’d cost them a few quid if they were keen.

Do we not have a right back coming in on a Bosman at the end of the season?

It fits the business plan for us. Sell at top price, bring in behind and develop - we have Vitinho who’s capable and would just need the next one in the pipeline

Re: Roberts - Brentford
Not sure it's fair for clubs to be buying the manager and all the players before the start of next term.

Since he returned from the World Cup, he’s been one of our star performers so hope he’d prefer to stay.

Re: Roberts - Brentford
As already noted, if the offer is top-dollar and Brentford or anyone else can agree personal terms with CR, then he should leave; that's the business model. I'd be happier if two or more clubs want him to help in boosting those offers
Re: Roberts - Brentford
Right up there for player of the season. Shown some real intelligence to play a number of postions and his passing has been excellent.

Re: Roberts - Brentford
Hope he stays-he is one who can definitely perform in the PL. I think if we hold on to VK (and I believe we will), then a lot of the current regular starters will want to remain and play for him

Yeah was it a rumour or have we signed him?

He had an incident with Thomas Frank a couple of years ago with Swansea in the playoffs: https://streamable.com/ywuegm

I won't get it unless we sell at a top price and no more Nick Pope situations. There must be no bargains and get top dollar for our players

Re: Roberts - Brentford
Sadly true, I'd be gutted to see him leave but it is what we are about. The only caveat I'd have, is we have to make sure we have a ready replacement before we sell any of the players.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 10:12 pmAs already noted, if the offer is top-dollar and Brentford or anyone else can agree personal terms with CR, then he should leave; that's the business model. Selling, for the sake of selling, just leads to relegation.

But keeping players when we could have sold for good money didn't help us. It's a fine line.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 8:54 amSadly true, I'd be gutted to see him leave but it is what we are about. Re: Roberts - Brentford
Roberts has 2 years remaining so if Brentford are interested we should be able to hold out for a decent fee.
Be a pity if he did leave as he's been excellent these past few months, however if we have options to replace him then I can see why we'd consider cashing in.
Arguably one of the areas we failed in under Dyche in his last 2/3 seasons was not selling players on when they still held some value, and we lost many on frees ultimately.
Of course as ever the player will decide whether he wants to stay or not, and as I'd hope we'd be able to compete with the likes of Brentford in the PL next season then for me unless they fork out £10m we should rebuff their advances.

Re: Roberts - Brentford
For a good price I don’t see an issue . While he’s had a very decent season in the champ , I always thought he was a notch off being a decentish prem RB . His long throws came to nothing , he isn’t a wing back per se, never gets to the byline etc . He’s a solid enough defender though and you can’t question his attitude . We’d need an upgrade anyway I think but not the most pressing .

Re: Roberts - Brentford
be very disappointed to see him go to be honest
Has been brilliant this season and made the right back position his own whilst buying into completely the ethos of the team
But has been said, we paid £2 million for him and if we are offered substantially more than that then we'd have to look at it

Genuine question:
Does the transfer embargo extend to selling players as well as buying?

Re: Roberts - Brentford
I don't see how it's possible to compare CR playing in the Prem under Dyche, to playing for VK in any league. We won't know until we see it, but I'm sure Roberts will be far better next season, whether it's with us or a.n.other.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 9:34 amFor a good price I don’t see an issue . We are a young Championship side. We need to strengthen, not sell players with Prem experience. They will be like gold dust!

Re: Roberts - Brentford
Hope he stays, he's reached the level of performance to serve us well in the EPL. Had a very good season under VK and played 46 full international games for Wales now so would be difficult to replace his contribution to the team immediately.
Everything/everybody has a price though they say- and that's certainly true for professional footballers.
I think we'd only sell for a very good price & if we had a replacement in mind for a lower price (but potential to get to the same level fairly quickly).
Obviously his personal ambitions would come into it, I guess a big pay rise would be attractive but not sure about a move to London (some would find that a plus, some a negative).
He's only just settled in here & with the EPL on the horizon playing well for a high profile/respected manager I doubt he'll be going this summer.

A couple of seasons in the prem has made Brentford a bigger club than us?

Might help solve part of the Weghorst situation if Kompany was considering bringing him back into the squad.

Re: Roberts - Brentford
No - the embargo is about new registrations, and that includes existing players whose contracts have ended but then we want to sign up again - that is how Barca lost Messiboatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 9:37 amGenuine question:

The bit that is unclear is - would that prevent a young player at the academy signing a first professional contract - this could apply to Jack McEvilly for instance who a lot of clubs are apparently keen to sign
